I've really enjoyed the Secrets of the Dark games and this one was a great addition to the group. Changing the lighting of a room changes the scene and reveals a totally different room. Finally got rid of disaster prone friend but since you now have a reputation as a dispeller of evil, it finds you! You must put it back in the box - literally and save a young woman from her evil uncle who has already killed off the rest of the family.
Backgrounds are good, animation is lacking, which is a shame, the puzzles range from easy to hard so there is something for everyone. The music is a small loop that is a bit irritating but can be turned down. This time I can't complain about inconsistencies in the background but the ancestral home that was supposedly set in Greece has some leanings to and English country home. Much more ignorable.
The HO scenes are just enough and though the items are hidden well, you can find them all. There is a twist - you are supposed to put things into an HO scene. They then do something to reveal an item you'll need.
There are lots of areas to explore and sometimes I'd forget where something was and have to wander around until I found it.
All in all this game is worth hours of fun.
I recommend this game!

Once again, your "friend" leads you into another demonic adventure. This time in Thailand. The setting is lovely and the graphics are good. Animation is midling. What makes the game are the scene morphing when the lighting changes. This is a cool idea and well done - for the most part. There are also objects that need to be morphed into something else by special statues.
The music is OK. Translation was pretty good. The story line is similar to the first game but a lot of the games have the same theme. The objects in the HO scenes are really well hidden but totally findable. Playing time seemed longer to me than the first game. The collectors edition has another bit of rescuing villagers which was also fun.
Like the first game, the research wasn't done on the location, fauna and gods. The first glaring misstep was putting an African elephant in the middle of the Thai jungle. There were several Hindu gods parading around the scenery also. Southeast Asia has plenty of their own so importing gods doesn't seem necessary, just lazy.
But all in all it was a good game and fun to play.
I recommend this game!

I thought this game was excellent. I especially loved the aspect of the scene morphing when the light changes. It is a unique approach to gaming.
The story line is pretty good. Friend needs to rescue friend from the fiendish Aztec demons and stop prime demon from coming to life and taking over the world. The music was pretty good.
I thought the graphics were really good. The animation was OK. The games were fun and the HO were tricky but not object dumps and all the things were findable.
More research needs to be done on the Aztecs. When you have one of the prime Mayan carvings on a wall in the night time "police" station you know that the game developers were sloppy. The Mayan pyramid, the feathered serpents of Tenochtitlan, and the figurines from Monte Alban are all part of the pre Columbian culture of Mexico but came at different times and were not part of the Aztec culture.
The only negative thing I can say about the game was that it was short. Or at least it only took me just under 4 hours.
I recommend this game!

I loved this game. The story is good - an organ grinder who extracts revenge on citizens of a town for a past misdead. The graphics are great with dimension and detail.
There is a map so you can avoid toing and froing because some times you have to traverse several screnes to get back to where you need to be to accomplish something.
The story is fun and ends well. The bad guys get their due and the good guys survive - in a manner of speaking.
The puzzles are are a mix of easy to hardish. The HO scenes are lovely to look at and you can find all the objects with not a lot of effort. The annimation is very good and the music is scene appropriate and interesting.
I recommend this game!

Poor

Based on reviews, I thought this was going to be a fantastic game. I was disappointed. Story has potential for being good but ends up weak, predictable and leaves some huge unfinished holes at the end as well as having some big inconsistencies.
The time setting is wrong for the type of theatre described but could have been in a tucked away corner of Europe - maybe. Take away another 70 years and maybe it would have worked.
If the theatre was extensively burned why does it look to be in such fantastic shape? It looks more like it was abandoned not burned.
Music was pleasant and unobtrusive. In fact it was soothing and nice to listen to. It was a long enough loop that one didn't get irritated by the constant repetition.
The graphics are OK but nothing spectacular. The annimation is poor to non existant. The puzzles a relatively easy for the most part. The hidden object scenes are totally doable. I'm not a fan of finding parts of things hidden object scenes but didn't have any problems.
Probably should have played it online, first and saved my money.
I don't recommend this game.

ERS games are usually good but this one is very, very good. I liked it very much! The graphics are detailed and great. They are a bit dark and the could be scary for some kids. The animation is fairly well done. The story holds your interest. The music is unobtrusive and can be muted if it bothers. I like all the different kinds of puzzles. The HO were a bit tricky because the colors were all muted.
The journal is helpful. And the hint button refills fairly quickly. There is no map but the game is fairly linear. If you do need to go back you don't have to go too far.
My 9 year old grandson is playing it with me and is loving it.
I recommend this game!

This game continues with the same quality as Moonfell Woods. The grafics are lovely, the animation is pretty good, the music is soothing and unobtrusive and the games are fun. Most of the games are fairly intuitive as to what you have to do and all are fun. You do get hooked and don't want to leave.
My grandson likes to play it with me and enjoys being able to figure it out without my input.
It is also to have a happier alternative to the "dark" games.
I recommend this game!

This game is beautifully illustrated. The storyline is interesting and keeps you wanting to solve the puzzle. The puzzles are vaired, good and plentiful yet not too many as to be annoying. The music is unobtursive and sweet.
I mentioned it to my grandson and he enjoyed playing it with me even if it didn't involving blasting things.
The length is good and the game leaves you wanting more.

Really great game! The artistic style is so different and cool. The animation is excelent! The music is on a bit of a loop but it is dramatic which goes with the switching from colored areas to non colored.
The puzzles range from fairly easy to difficult so there is something for everyone. I sometimes wish to have an explanation of what I need to do to solve a puzzle because some of them weren't intuitive. There is a minimum of back and forthing whith can leave you frothing.
The game takes some time but not too much. The ending leaves you wanting more which is lucky because it is obvious that there will be more.
I recommend this game!

The witch is back - again. This is the fourth in the series and the storyline is a bit different this time. It's just you and the witch. The music is the same which is fine because it is unobtrusive and "comforting" to have the known.
The graphics are just as great. The creators have taken great care and have given depth, dimension, texture and fine detail to the scenes. Some of the HO scenes are a bit faded but still eminently doable.
I bought the CE edition for the extra game playiing and was not disappointed.
There are lots of different kinds of puzzles throughout the game and the extras. I did get tired of the "lights" but pushed through. The extras had another series of games with repeat similarities. The mini games ranged from easy to fairly challenging.
The story was OK but probably the weakest of the series. There is a bit of toing and froing, which sometimes leaves you trying to remember where you saw that puzzle or item.
All in all very enjoyable.
I recommend this game!
