You play as a young witch apprentice, who is about to pass her exam for a witch (and at one go to save the world :). And it's not a new story in games, I have to admit. But this one is different than other HOPAs I've played. I decided to pick this one because of beautiful screenshots. And the art IS really great, but the gameplay feels rather rough. It won't give you this smooth handholding specific to the latest games. But - despite or because of it? - it is intriguing! I felt like playing an old adventure game, where you really have to figure everything out by yourself! And I really liked it. I don't know if I can find on BFG games similar to this one, but this one has a winning retro charm.

Edge of Reality: Call of the Hills is very interesting title. It features a story of two sisters, who are to meet their grandpa for the first time for 20 years. It will have unexpected and magical consequences! There are plenty of long dialogs in the game, and many text notes you find here and there. Thanks to it, the story is pretty well developed. If you like more narration-oriented games, this one is for you. I played only the demo version, but form this experience, I can say that mini games are very classics (e.g. finding differences, sudoku-like chess game, connecting two points with line), but the gameplay is mostly pleasant and smooth.
Bonfire Stories. Faceless Gravedigger is the best hidden object game I've played so far! The story is gripping, but I won't write anything more here :)
What I like the most about this game is its intuitiveness. You just play and the game leads you in its own direction keeping emotions on high level! You can focus on fun, story and puzzles, and forget everything else - don't have to read instructions of sophisticated puzzles, learn controls, and so on.
The atmosphere of the game is dark, from the very beginning you step into a conventional horror setting. So, you know where you are, and what to expect. Or it just seems that you do...
I've played the demo version of Spirits of Mystery: The Last Fire Queen. I haven't tried other games from this series before. The game is dark, full of skeletons and spiders. Adequately to the visual setting, music is pretty heavy too. At first it provides strong emotional background, but soon becomes weary. There is couple of solutions I haven't seen in other HOPA games, such as puzzle you need to slide up and down (I've almost given up, as you can't skip mini games in demo version). One game I (still) don't understand is the one with walking in a blizzard - is there any clue why should I choose certain direction? I felt as if it was completely random and kept failing, it was pretty confusing experience. Perhaps the game is not my type, or maybe this is the fact that demo version ended long before the time counter in Big Fish app, but I'm not going to buy this one.
The Fading Signal is the first installment of Beyond series I have a pleasure to play. At first the story sounds typical, but it unfolds in a surprising way. I like the visual style; it is sci fi, but also feels retro futuristic with all these old tv sets and radios used for unconventional purposes. In this regard, it reminds me The Stranger Things series. The gameplay is rather simple, but sometimes you have really a lot of objects in your inventory at once. What I liked the most were "hidden place for object" instead of "hidden object" games, when you are supposed to put something back on its place. Full screen mini games are also big pro for me, as this way they feel more like a part of the story, and not something you do in order to push the game further.
It is one of the first games I played here. I really enjoyed acting as mysterious British special agent solving case of Malcolm's death, and trying to stop the Revenant. In order to do that, you need to face pretty difficult puzzles! The game has awesome and creepy atmosphere, great for chilly November evenings. Plenty of animated elements make the scenes feel avid. I don't like staring at boring, static scenes while looking for hidden objects :) And beware, if you click thoughtlessly around, the mouse pointer starts do dance! The only con there is lots of reading when compared to other games I already played. Sometimes you feel that the game is making you reading explanations instead of playing.
