Having played the demo, I am not sure if I will buy this game or not.
My reservations are largely due to the fact that the game is visually very dark, including the HOS and I found that all the straining to see stuff started to give me a headache; there is no map and an awful lot of back tracking, which isn't necessarily a problem but there is no logical movement, so it all feels a bit haphazard. Tthere are no other characters to interact with which I suppose there wouldn't be in an abandoned asylum, but that did bother me.
On the plus side it was quite challenging (in expert mode) in that you were stretched to remember what was where and where you had been and as I already said, the HOS were dark so the items not easy to find.
This seems to be one of those love it or hate it games, and I still can't decide which.

I played the demo in expert mode and whilst I did play it to the end (in the hope it would get better I think!), the game did not grab me.
The graphics were good and the storyline had the potential to be great but it somehow missed the mark and I got bored.
The HOS were fine and I did like the fact that you had to find items and them combine them with other items, which was a little bit of a change from the norm. The puzzles however were not interesting and no challenge at all.
Overall I didn't care if I finished the game or not, so definitely not something I would buy.
The storyline was interesting although not particularly involved. The graphics were overall very pleasing but some of the HOS were very dark. The puzzles were not overly taxing but did require thinking about and were a bit different from the usual.
I bought the game with a credit so am quite happy with the purchase..lol...and as I said in my title, it was a nice way to kill time on a very wet day!

Having played the first 1000 doors game I was really looking forward to this one.
It was different to the first in that there were less locations and less 'twists in the tale' (IMO), so not quite as challenging and the game play not as long.
That said, it was still a great game which I really enjoyed playing and I would certainly recommend it.
I recommend this game!

Mystery of Mortlake Mansion
Explore the dark halls of Mortlake Mansion and discover its secrets! Break the evil spells and become the owner of the mansion!
Excellent game, totally different than all others I have played.
Yes the graphics change between normal and cartoonish, but this for me added to the challenge.
The game consists of normal rooms and shadow rooms which are accessed via portals. There is luckily a map as there are lots of locations so I used it loads to see where I had been and needed to go next. You can also click on the map to be taken to the desired location which is good.
Loads of puzzles and loads of HOS, all of differing levels of difficulty, and a very long game.
All in all this really stretched the 'little grey cells'......loved it!
I just played the demo after reading the rave reviews, but not really my cup of tea. I started to get bored with all the too'ing and fro'ing and the storyline just didn't grab me.
I did like the 'torch lit' HOS as that was a nice change, and the puzzles I did do were pretty straight forward, rather too much so actually.
Having read the great reviews and loved 'beauty and the beast', I had high expectations of this game. I played the demo for only 18 minutes and did not like it at all.
The music was irritating and whilst I normally mute it, other reviewers have warned not to otherwise clues are missed and it would have driven me mad.
The graphics were also poor, very dark and not pleasing on the eye at all. The couple of HOS I did were also very dark.
The storyline had the potential to be great but somehow missed the mark, mainly as it just sort of finished..no grand finale. It was clearly leaving room for a sequel but I was a little disappointed. Despite this, what I loved was that there were not too many HOS and the ones there were, were different. Not only were they interactive but they also had HOS within the HOS. The puzzles were also a change from the norm. Not too challenging but great fun.
I did intially think that the game was going to be too 'tutorial' for me # I like to work things out for myself#, but it wasn't. There is a map which I didn't use to be honest as although there were different areas, there weren't too many that you forgot what was where.
Can't comment on the music or voice overs as I mute the sound.
All in all a really good way to spend a few hours!
I recommend this game!

I usually prefer more adventure and puzzles than HOS, but despite this game being primarily HOS I really enjoyed it. As other reviewers have said, the graphics are lovely and a welcome departure from 'spooky scenes' in most games.
I don't usually play with the sound on but did with this game as it is really relaxing to listen to.
The storyline is good and the level of challenge is easy to medium but sometimes you don't want to think to much..lol.
All in all a pleasant change and well worth a bonus voucher.
I played this game for only 10 minutes before I knew I wouldn't enjoy it. The dialogue did make me smile but after the 4th HOS in as many minutes I lost interest. I love HOG's but only where there is a balance between them and an adventure...not the case here. Sorry but not for me!
