Whomever said "books are our friends" never knew your uncle's antiquarian interest could be lethal.
When you arrive at his store, you find he is missing and an intruder in the process of destroying books. When you attempt to stop the intruder you are pulled into a book and into a world where you must not only save yourself, but your uncle as well, or die trying!
After watching the demo and only a few minutes of play I just had to add this one to my library. This game will, indeed, be one of the top 10 games of 2016!!

I am a CE fan, regardless of the style (I like the "extras" they provide), but after reading the reviews, I tried Dreamless Castle, only to become hooked .. big time!
As usual the Awakening series does not disappoint, color, music, characters ... heck all of it!
But do yourself a favor, forget the Guide, and play this in the original mode. Yes you may have to go back a few times to figure out what you have missed ... BUT WHO CARES?! Play Dreamless Castle for the fun of it, you will not be disappointed.
I rarely pre-play any games I buy, but I wanted to find out for myself, if the 3 reviews may have been too harsh. Sorry to say they are 100% correct!
To date I have only a few games, offered by Big Fish, that I haven't been fond of, but even they are worthy of some positive note. Mysteries of Olympus is neither worthy of note, nor equal to the quality of games available today.
With all the Greek & Roman mythologies, the infinite number of storylines, plus all the benefits of 21st century programing, what went wrong?
If the programmers really want this game, and any series that MAY stem from the original, PLEASE pull the copy of "Mysteries of Olympus" and start over. There are good ideas here, but you failed to follow through with any details. The HOPS are poor and play as if they were for games programed 15 years ago. Graphics are faded, visual and sound quality, non-existent.
The Ravenhurst anthology, has always been in the top ten of games from the very beginning ... until now. The "Key to Ravenhurst" takes to us a whole new level, by which all subsequent games will be judged.
After learning Ravenhurst has been rebuilt, you are sent to investigate, only to learn the evil inside has multiplied beyond anything you have ever faced.
The usual HOPS, and progressive puzzles have changed very little, older puzzles have been reinvented, and new games added. . Not only do you have to deal with the house, whose only role in existence is to kill you, by any means necessary, but one, over the top zino-psychopath, who is killing everybody they can get their hands on, INCLUDING the construction crews, in order to harvest their souls, to bring back their ancestors in order to, you guessed it, take over the world! So what else is new!?
From beginning to end, this game holds your attention and challenges every level of player.
As to your detective? Oh no my friends, I don't want to destroy your expectations. Just go for it, but watch out for the man whose head has been replaced with a TV set.
Few folks today remember that Samuel Langhorn; aka Mark Twin; actually had a younger brother, whose death, at an early age, haunted the author for the rest his life.
In his MM mystery, "Devil on the Mississippi, Twain appears before you, asking for help in solving the mystery of just how his younger brother died.
Based on actual events, Devil on the Mississippi, allows the player the opportunity to decide what really MAY have happened to the young brother, a riverboat captain, who died under conditions that were never clearly explained, leaving a pall over Mark's head for the remainder of his life.
A game that can be played many times, without being bored.
I was glad to see another 1000 Doors game, having purchased Family Secrets, which I really enjoyed; five stars top to bottom.
However .... Serpent Flame was the dullest game .I have ever played. It would be a great game for a beginning player, but clearly falls short of what the makers could have done.
Not once, from start to finish, was our heroine Kate in any trouble. Flying snakes, headless skeletons, ghosts, and so on were never a threat. Even a Baskalis from Harry Potter stories makes an appearance, but don't worry, the snake is chained from fang to tail. Even its' bite is no problem, seems someone has pried the jaw open, and shoved a very large ball into its' mouth. One might, however, be killed by the slobber.
The story line is great, but someone really dropped the ball as far as the threat level to our Kate. She awakes from what she believes is a nightmare, only to find herself back in the House of 1000 Doors, where she is told the earth is being destroyed by ancient snakes and only she can save the world.
Sure we learn more about Kate's abilities, and there is the ancient stranger who saves her life, at the risk of his own, to get her back to the house, but after that, it is extremely dull.
Photographer Emily is enjoying a quiet afternoon, when she hears frantic knocking at her door. Upon opening it, she is startled to find a strange woman, who orders her to come with her immediately!
Before Emily can respond, a storm of meteors begins to fall all around her, changing everyone, including her beloved cat, into green eyed demons.
When the stranger grabs her, Emily is transported to a mansion, and another reality, where she is told she is a Lancaster, and they are her family.
Great time for a family reunion? Not bloody likely!. And, for Pete's sake, NOT NOW!!
Introduced to each of them, Emily learns just as they each have special gifts, she too is gifted with an inner light and she alone can destroy the virus that is taking over both worlds.
Suddenly family members disappear, and she is ordered back through the portal, by the remaining Lancaster member, who has only moments to show her how to use the "gift of light", before he too vanishes!
Although not the best in the series, I enjoyed it because of the family bond it represents.
As a historian and genealogists for almost 50 years, I find the unique "gifts" each Lancaster has, only strengthens the bonds between them.
What do I like about this game? Everything!! What impresses me the most, is our "Hero Mom" never flinches when faced with death, and takes everything else in stride, as if she was transported from one place to another every day,and consults with hermits, dwarfs, and a magical figure with four arms, who floats in mid air. Do all of us a favor? Please allow her to verbally interact with others she meets.
Supper may be a bit late, but mom will have one heck of a bedtime story for her son.
It's your day off and just as your settling in, when your friends call, reminding you to join them at the exotic Pantheon building.
Already late, you arrive in time to find two friends missing, a third staring at a game board, mumbling she has to throw the dice! As soon as the dice land on the board, a door appears, through which a hideous woodsman appears. He grabs her and drags her through the door, which instantly vanishes.
Just as suddenly a man appears telling you by entering the room, you too must play. When you refuse you are told if you do not play all three will die!!
Determined to do whatever is needed to find and save your friends, you roll the dice and become part of an ongoing game that is centuries old, where no one has ever left alive!!
Succeed, and all four will live, fail and all of you will join the haunted dead , forever!
Now a full field agent for H*E*L*P, you are again teamed up with agent Sam, who hands you a case that would challenge any detective. During the night, the Smithsonian's security system shows there was several minutes where the cameras failed to work. During your first case with H*E*L*P*, Agent Sam assisted you in uncovering the truth. Now you find yourself not just investigating solo, and 150 years into the past!!! In an effort to stop the employee from making a second trip, you too are thrown backward in time, with only on chance of getting home.
Now a victim of a time travel device, you race against time itself, in order to restore the balance of time, all the while facing H*E*L*P agents of the past and your future, who are willing to do anything to prevent you succeeding.
This in one of the finest HOP games I have ever played, where there are not just some of the old HOP's but new ones. What I really enjoyed was the panning features and having to move from one floor, or room, to another, 3-4 times in order to finalize a clue or activate a HOP. It kept me glued to my PC, all the while challenging me to improve my own gaming ability.
