I have played all three of the "Echoes of the Past" games, and this one by far is the best and kept me playing for a long time. The Collector's Edition also provides even more gameplay, so its well worth the money.
As others have said, it does get confusing sometimes where you are supposed to be within the different time portals, but I found that if I kept track of what I thought I was looking for, I was able to figure it out pretty quickly without having to use the strategy guide.
The music is about the same as the last few, and not so great. I turned down the music portion of the game quite often. The story is great, and the HOS are just challenging enough. The puzzles were unique in this one, and some of them were pretty challenging, but not to the point of being diabolical.
I really enjoyed this game, and I'm not sure if there will be another, but I look forward to it if there is!
I got this on a $4.99 special after buying another game, and thought it would take me a couple of hours to complete.
I was wrong. Even though this isn't the Collector's Edition (which I kind of wish I had now), it took me a good four to five hours to finish this.
It started off slow, and was kind of mad because I'd seen other similar types of scenes and HOS's before in other games, but once it started to pick up I was very happy.
Also, I loved the music, especially at the tail end. I found myself turning up the volume instead of down (which I usually do out of annoyance).
The storyline is actually what made this game good for me. The HOS's are pretty normal (although my eyes took time to adjust to the great hodge podge of clutter). The puzzles are just challenging enough. The hint button is very useful, and you can skip a puzzle pretty quickly if you realize you don't feel like fooling with it.
I've enjoyed every Midnight Mysteries game that has come out, and this one is by far the best in quality. It has a solid length, challenging puzzles that aren't diabolical, and fun HOS.
The story is pretty good, but sometimes I lost interest in it simply because I did research on houdini before, and this story was pretty much bogus...but its fun to get into the conspiracy theory.
