Keeping in mind that I come off of the "Lift Quest" series, which I played many times, I found this one good. It's close, and even has cool extras in schooling and entertainment.
What I missed the most was meeting people in town, dating, having children. People aren't an island, and this game felt lonely. Again, the games I'm used to were populated with people you could interact with and take to all of those cool places.
That's my only gripe. Friends & family aside, this is a fantastic game.
I recommend this game!

I'll give it that it was a beautiful game, but I couldn't make it halfway through the trial. On the game-play end, it had no way to tell which blocks had been broken yet. Usually the areas you'd broken turn a different color, but these didn't. That was frustrating. Even if that had been the case, though, the story, and the music, was *so* saccharin sweet I felt beaten over the head by it. :-P
I don't recommend this game.

This game was made in 2007. The standard of all HOGs after that should have been set at this one. Why it wasn't is beyond me. This game has a the level of complexity in the puzzles and challenge in the search that I have never seen thus far. Sometimes it can be gloriously maddening. ...And the star, Madame Fate, she talks throughout about her enemies and your progress, but in a way that is amusing and endearing. It's so rare to find a talking part that doesn't annoy me to tears. Anyway, some HOGs have been entertaining, if not tediously repetitious... but this is the FIRST I could in good ever give over 4 stars to. It's brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. My big question is "why haven't other games carried it's banner?" The bar was raised 5 years ago; it was raised at Madame Fate. Cheers. I hope to find more out there like it, and I hope more grab onto it as a baseline.
I recommend this game!

...and it is! I started on the Normal setting and by the mid-levels I was always coming *right* down to the wire on the timer. I have other Match 3s that I enjoy more leisurely, but this one definitely tests your brain-hand-eye coordination. :-)
As an added bonus, the game doesn't condescend to you with poorly acted character dialogue, but states the premise quickly in text and moves on. The Mythological theme, for those of us into these things makes a great backdrop, and it's obvious the designer had some affection for, and knowledge of, the topic. It's great that somehow a great game didn't get lost in that zeal, but the mix was just right. One could *easily* enjoy the game without such interest.
I hope the sequels are as balanced and as challenging.
I recommend this game!

I did love this game, but I hate giving reviews, so here's a combo pack:
It's fun. Kitschy, fun, and challenging, so by all means if you love the genre - get it. So far it's the best I've tried. I've played the Mystery P.I.s and they all suffered from one BIG drawback: repetition. So does this. I didn't seem to mind so much because they upped the challenge a bit and, again, it was kitschy. Still, *especially* for the endgame I'd have LOVED some new content. (The bonus Match 3 was a faboo add-on too!)
I would hope they'd learn from this. Some games are nigh unplayable due to this issue. I need long breaks from the Mystery P.I series, but this is one I played for hours.
I'm getting into Vacation Quest: Hawaii now, and I see they've upped the challenges even more, building on these no doubt. Yes, there's repetition as well, but again better graphics and sweet, sweet kitsch factor. I see their constant improvement; I hope fresh content for their HOGs is on their list in the future. Until then I don't see anything going over 4 stars for me.
I recommend this game!

I broke my silence of not leaving reviews just to say that. The Match threes in the Amazing Adventures and Mystery P.I. have been FAR more challenging without all the vapid, inane, conversation and cheap graphics to make an excuse for the game play.
The thing *about* the game play is you only have to fill in small areas of the board. With the afore mentioned games, you have to change the *whole* board, and they grow continually more challenging (oh yes they do). It may be my practice on those, but this game was a *cake-walk*.
I'm astonished to see it awarded and that makes me lose faith in the Match 3 genre when the Hidden Object genre does it better as a side feature.
