I have been suckered into buying too many subpar MCF games and I had almost given up on them, but they are back. I loved the throwback to the earlier games, especially Madame Fate. The old charm and puzzles were back and I thoroughly enjoyed the game. It's not quite back to the originals, but pretty darn close. If you liked the old games, I would definitely check this one out.
I have to preface this review by saying the fact that it was a different plot line gets me to 5 stars. I am so sick of the same old plots. This was such a refreshing and sweet story, and even though it seems very juvenile, it is not easy. The puzzles were pretty easy, but finding the things to trigger the puzzles were not. My interpretation is that the little boy's sister is sick, so to make the "Journey" easier he tells her a story of their stuffed toys going on an adventure. Along the way, you have to collect items to activate puzzles that take you on the next part of the journey. Overall a fun game with a compelling story. I suggest you give it a try.
I was happy to play a game that isn't like all the other games I have played lately. I feel a little in a rut and this broke me out.
This is a straight up puzzle game, It is puzzle after puzzle in order to learn about Doctor Arcana and escape his mansion. The puzzles were varied and interesting, and a few I ended up skipping due to my lack of patience when I get stuck. That brings me to my one tiny drawback, and that was there were no hints on where to go. I found myself a couple of times wandering from room to room trying to locate the puzzle that I needed. Once you get into the library you can jump from room to room, but there is no indicator on where to go.
Overall super fun and I spent a nice rainy afternoon playing it.
I happen to LOVE MCF, so I was hooked right away. True it isn't as good as the originals, but honestly, what is? I love the concept of revisiting all the old games, and the super puzzles are back which I love. The HOP have morphing items, and some puzzles in the puzzle. I found it not very challenging, but it wasn't super easy either.
This game was very interesting. I think I spent the entire demo just figuring out what to do. Once I got going it was a highly entertaining game. There are no instructions, so the first hour can be really frustrating. There are video walkthroughs available and I did have to use them a time or two, just to figure out what to do next.
You are on a journey to find all the leaves that blow off the tree right at the beginning. Along the way, you discover the other inhabitants of the world.
The puzzles were really clever and there is no way to skip, so if you have trouble persevering through challenging puzzles, this is not the game for you. I took a lot of notes to help, and I usually don't have to do that.
The art work is really beautiful although really odd. It feels like a true artist created it rather than a game designer. No offence to game designers.
I look forward to the sequel and recommend you take a chance on this game.
I initially thought this game was going to be very amateurish based on other games I have played that looked similar, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was a fun game and kept me entertained all the way through.
The story line is a bit of a Stargate feel as you are pulled into a portal to a different world. You must work with the locals to get back, and in the meantime save the world. No problem-right?
I played on the hardest level and the games and HOP were relatively easy. Not childish, but I didn't need to skip or go looking for cheats either. The neat thing about the HOP is that they aren't your typical junk pile. You have to find actual objects that make sense in the storyline and interact with the scene to complete. I also appreciated that you kept your machete most of the game. That's a pet-peeve of mine. You need a knife and after you use it, it disappears. Then in the next scene, you need to cut something and off you go hunting for another knife, of sharp glass, or whatever crazy thing the developers came up with.
The scenes were nice and clear, no muddy, dark colors. The characters mouths were off from the words, and often the dialogue was just text, but I forgave these little flaws since overall it was entertaining.
I have to say that this was a fun game, even though it was a bit cheesy.
You are the princess of the Earth Kingdom heading out to meet with the royals from the other four kingdoms, but wait, there is a fifth kingdom. You have to save the royals from the other kingdoms, and defeat the bad guy. At the end you get to marry the man of your dreams,,,sort of..that part kind of got a little murky and cheesy, but no matter, it is still entertaining.
Puzzles were fun and not too easy, but I didn't have to skip any. A few were unique, but most you will have seen before if you are a fan of the genre.
HOS were plentiful and varied. They were a little dark, but I had no problem finding everything without using a hint. .
The music was weird though. I usually tun the music off, and I didn't on this game, but it sounded like a western. Very disconnected to the fantasy theme.
I own all of the games in these series, but luckily I didn't buy this one. I decided to play the demo first based on the terrible reviews I read. I thought they were being hyperbolic, but they weren't. This is a dismal game. It is ridiculously easy, and the story line is really cheesy. I am going to have to pass this year, and just replay the old games. I implore you to try the demo before you buy.
This game is really fun and unique. It does start of creepy and then gets less creepy, but I didn't mind. I also didn't mind the ease of the mini games because they were so unique. I liked that you also keep tools. For example, if you need a knife, you don't have to find another knife after you use it one time. That is always annoying to me. I also appreciated that the HOS have stuff that you would find in that area, so no gramophones in the leaf pile. I have played hundreds of HOGs and I usually become bored, but I sat and played through this game in one sitting. I highly recommend this game.
I really like mythology, so this was fun and I liked the story line. It wasn't even close to the myth, but I can go along with the alternative story. The puzzles were challenging, but not extremely difficult. I liked that you get to switch from character to character. Overall a good game and worth the money. My only issue is that it has a really dumb ending. Spoiler: Right when they are escaping Hades, Persephone says she is has to eat something or she will return as a shadow, and then she eats one pomegranate seed. I don't know if they were trying to pull in the myth elements, but it seemed like a add on at the end.
