~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wow, I… I’m speechless. That was such a great story! I played the demo and knew I had to play to the end, so I bought this on sale. I don’t regret it at all. This was brilliant!
The story floored me from start to finish. The amount of twists it had was amazing. Each twist added that extra bit of excitement to the story, and it ends brilliantly. I’m a sucker for murder mysteries, but because of that, I judge them harshly. This one went above and beyond my expectations. I congratulate the developer on their effort. Yes, this isn’t the most fun game in the world, but the story is brilliant. Don’t be put off by the demo just because it isn’t ‘fun.’ Also, there are quite a lot of cutscenes in this game, so those who don’t like too many cutscenes might be a little hesitant, but I assure you every cutscene is necessary to the story!
For those wondering, the game has 4 chapters. Don’t let that fool you, these chapters are LONG. Each chapter took me about an hour, adding up to 4 hours gameplay.
Like I said before, this game is far from the most fun game I’ve ever played. Although this was easier than Dorian Gray, I still found it to be rather challenging. I was constantly having to use the hint and constantly having to skip puzzles, but that’s what you get when you buy a game from Magicindie; a really good challenge.
HOS and puzzles are fairly evenly spaced out, although there seemed to be more puzzles than HOS. The HOS had some extra step items and were fun to play. What I loved about them, though, was that the hint let you choose which item you wanted to be revealed! Yes, you heard me right! You have NO IDEA how long I’ve been waiting for that! It was such a joy. Ideas like this erase the annoyance we players get when the one item we need help with is not the item that gets revealed when we use a hint! Developers need to use ideas like this. It will make their games so much better.
The puzzles were quite challenging for me. I skipped a lot of them, but at least I was able to solve some. I don’t mind skipping the puzzles, because I don’t like puzzles anyway, but I like having some that I can solve. Overall, good work to the developer on the gameplay.
The graphics were good but could’ve used a small bit of extra work. What I mean was, the graphics did not amaze me, but they weren’t horrible either. Everything was clear, especially the HOS, so I have no complaints on the graphics.
I have one comment about the voice-overs- there were different accents (British, not the usual American), which was a nice change. Other than that, nothing really stands out for the voice-overs. They weren’t amazing, but weren’t horrible either.
FEATURES
- No journal.
- There is a map, but it is not interactive and not very helpful at all.
- 3 modes of difficulty: Casual, Advanced and Hard. I played Casual. The only difference is hint recharge and sparkles.
- Hint and Skip- both recharged fast on Casual and the hint is extremely helpful outside HOS.
This game is not meant to be fun; it’s meant to be thrilling. I did not have fun with the game, but I was sucked in by the storyline. If you’re wondering whether to choose the SE or CE, I 100% recommend you choose the SE. The game ends conclusively and you do not miss out on much. Plus, the game is rather long, at approx. 4 hours on Casual mode, so the extra length of the CE is not needed for me. I was happy with the SE.
I recommend this game!
Well, Artifex, you had some BIG shoes to fill when you made a sequel to Nightmares From The Deep: The Cursed Heart, but… I think you did it! The adventure I have just played, although shorter than The Cursed Heart, was still as captivating, tragic and fun as the first.
The story starts off with the return of our favourite curator, Ms. Black. It has been a year after her last battle, but she is in for a whole new one! The story was very exciting, and just as good. It ended conclusively and brilliantly, just like the last one. What I loved about the story was the twists it took. I was kept guessing right until the end. As with the last game, there was a backstory told by collecting 12 tokens and placing them on a chest. I loved this story. I my opinion, it was arguably the best part. Here’s a tip- save all your tokens until the end so you can hear the entire story at once. I did, and it’s much better this way. One final note, I believe that the developers improved the story by allowing some of the same characters to return. I found it much easier to relate to the story this way.
The big improvement of this game from the last one is the gameplay. There is now an interactive map, just like the reviewers requested. This map is very helpful too and saves a lot of time on backtracking. The hint is very helpful, telling you what to do and where to do it.
What I loved was the HOS. There were 3 types: The classic junkpile, silhouette objects and fragmented object scenes. All 3 were great and all had their own level of difficulty. There were quite a number of HOS in the game, meaning HOS lovers won’t be disappointed. As with the last game, there is also the option of playing Mahjong as an alternative, which was both fun and challenging. Overall, the HOS part of the gameplay was done brilliantly.
The puzzles were a mixed bag- some I liked, others I didn’t. I did make some effort to solve the puzzles, but in the end, I had to skip most of them. However, I did enjoy attempting them. Credit to Artifex for making them enjoyable, if not able to be completed.
The difficulty? Well, it shouldn’t be too hard. I found it rather easy to navigate, but I did get stuck on one puzzle in the silhouette scene right at the beginning, which almost caused me to quit the game, but all in all I found the game to be of medium difficult. Not easy, but not hard either. But whatever the difficulty, I cannot deny that I had a LOT of fun with the game!
The graphics are brilliant- again. The artwork and character design is so great and detailed. I loved how much effort Artifex put in to this. It’s far much more than I would! ;)
The voice-overs were pretty standard. They weren’t fascinating, but they weren’t awful either. It takes something truly special to make me happy with voice-overs, and this wasn’t it. Other than that, everything was perfect with this game.
FEATURES
- 3 modes of difficulty: Casual, Advanced, and Hard. Only differences are sparkles and hint recharge. I played Casual.
- Hint and Skip- both recharge fast on Casual. It took around 30 seconds for the hint and 45 seconds for the skip.
- Diary to keep track of events. Diary also keeps track of objectives.
- Map. The map is interactive and very helpful, one of the biggest improvements in this game.
- 12 collectible fish tokens, although they are essential to the game, so they aren’t really collectibles.
So, overall, I was extremely impressed with this game. I bought it as soon as it came out and I was not disappointed. You are in store for a wonderful adventure, and I 100% recommend this game as an SE or CE.
The game took me about 3 hours on Casual mode, although I am a fast player and use a lot of skips on puzzles. I estimate it would take the average player, who attempts and solves puzzles, 3.5-4 hours on Casual.
I know you’ll love this game, no matter what version you pick!
I recommend this game!
Needing something new to try, I was delighted when I saw the new Echoes of the Past game. I was quick to download and try, and I was pretty impressed by the demo. I am considering buying (but I will wait for the SE).
The story is…. Well, it’s good, but not great, you know what I mean? I mean, it starts off great and the demo ends quite well, but everything in between there is not the best. The only things that happened were helping a blind boy, giving the queen back her heart (sounds quite like the Wizard of Oz, don’t you think?) and unlocking the next room and defeating the guard. The demo ends there. Again, not the best, and there probably should have been some more interesting things going on in the demo, but the gameplay was the winner for me.
It is quite often that I will buy a game not for the story, but for the gameplay. This would be one of those games. I actually had a lot of fun in the game. There was a great mixture of HOS and puzzles, and each HOS was a bit of challenge. The HOS are the classic junkpile ones, with one or two being “place the item back in the scene” ones. Both of these I really enjoyed. The puzzles were a little bit hard for me, so I skipped them all. There was one exception, the feather one. I enjoyed this one even though I could not complete it. The strategy guide contains details on how to solve the puzzle, for those who get stuck.
For those wondering, the gameplay is not difficult. I was able to navigate my way around the scenes with no trouble at all. One problem I had though, was that I would sometimes get confused with the amount of rooms and accidently go in the wrong one. This did not trouble me though as I enjoyed the game.
The graphics are pretty good. I can make no complaints on these. The character designs and HO scenes are done pretty well, and each scene is good. However, these graphics are not great, and could have done with a little more work.
The voice-overs are standard. Again, good, but not great. The one positive is that the voice-overs aren’t over-done.
One issue I had with the visual/sound part of the game is the music. I kept hearing this annoying thump. Every 30-60 seconds or so, this thump would play. It annoyed me so much I had to turn the music/sound off.
FEATURES
- 3 modes of play: Casual, Advanced and Expert (at least I think that’s what they’re called). I played Casual. Last mode does not give you any hints.
- Hint and Skip recharge fairly quickly on Casual. Skip takes a little longer to recharge than the hint does. The hint is extremely useful outside HOS.
- Diary to keep track of events. I did not use it often.
- Interactive map. Areas where a task needs to be completed are highlighted in green. Areas completed are highlighted in white.
CE EXCLUSIVES
- Strategy Guide
- Achievements
- Bonus Chapter
- Concept Art
- The usual CE Extras
So, overall I was impressed by this game. The CE gets a four as there are no CE Extras that I feel the need to have. I will be buying the SE.
I recommend this game!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had been waiting for the SE ever since I trialed the CE last month, and when it finally came out, I pounced on it, buying it as quickly as possible. The adventure I have just completed was just as good, if not better than the first, and will definitely be a contender for the best game of 2013.
The story starts off thrilling and just gets better and better. The story is your classic horror story, rarely seen in the Hidden Object Game industry these days. It’s gripping, horrifying and tragic all at the same time as you uncover the true story of your husband’s childhood. The story is also told further through 8 collectible dolls that you will find at various points throughout the game. I liked this touch as it gave me a deeper understanding of how evil the clown really was.
The ending to the story is brilliant, doing the game justice. As every gamer knows, there is nothing worse than a brilliant game with a bad ending. The final showdown between the doll and the clown thrilled me and I thought it was the best part of the game. The ending to the main game is conclusive, so you do not need to buy the CE.
The developer made some great improvements to this game, erasing my 2 main points of criticism to the last game: There were more puzzles and less Hidden Object Scenes, but still enough to make the game a Hidden Object Game. There were also voice-overs, which made the story better.
The gameplay is fairly similar to the last one, with collectible dolls, the evil clown and the helper doll. The concept of the game is similar. Some will find it to be an exact copy, but I believe this game holds its own to Dollhouse Story.
The HOS were great, and unlike the last game, included extra-step objects. Some were in the form of zoom-in scenes, others in the form of moving other objects out of the way. This provided some variation, which I liked. Other than that, the HOS aren’t very hard, but I enjoyed playing them.
On the subject of puzzles, I didn’t particularly enjoy them, but I tolerated them. There seemed to be more puzzles than HOS, but I didn’t mind. The puzzles have simple instructions, and I was able to solve a few of them, which was great. One of the things I dislike most in games is not being able to solve any puzzles, but lucky for me, this game did not have that. Overall, the main points of the gameplay get a pass.
However, there is one main problem I had with the gameplay- There were WAY too many items that you had to find parts to and assemble. I can remember about 4 off the top of my head, but I’m certain there was more. I wouldn’t have minded one or two, but the developer really went over the top in this one. It’s a shame really, because other than that, this game did not put a foot wrong.
The graphics are superb. The artwork was brilliant, especially in the scenes and character designs. There is a fair bit of detail, and the scenes are designed so well that nothing was grainy or out of place and I did not have to squint or tilt my screen back once. Everything seemed to belong in that time period, meaning that there was nothing there that seemed from centuries ago, which was good.
The voice-overs were standard for me. They weren’t horrible, but they weren’t outstanding either. No characters annoyed me, opposite to what usually happens in a game. I was not screaming at a character to shut up or muting my sound at any point in the game.
On the subject of characters, what I liked about them was that they each had their own little story, from the clown, to the doll, to the strange kid with wings you meet near the beginning of the game. This shows that Alwar really paid attention to the story of this game. Most developers don’t seem to bother with giving characters their own story, but when they do, the story is brilliant.
As stated numerous times throughout this review, this game was brilliant. I loved everything about it, especially the story. The story was really something, and is definitely way up there for the best story of 2013. Aside from one minor flaw, this game is perfect and gets a well-deserved 5-star rating from me. As many game reviewers know, I do not give out praise lightly. For a completed game to get 5 stars, it must be amazing, and this was. I cannot express in words how highly I recommend this game. No matter if it’s the CE or the SE, you’re sure to LOVE IT!
For those wondering, the game length is 3- 3 ½ hours on Casual mode.
I recommend this game!

Game review is of completed game. My full rating is 4.5
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My trial of the CE was interrupted, so I thought I’d trial the SE, and I’m so glad I did! This is the first Dark Dimensions game I’ve ever bought and I loved it to the end!
STORY:
Yes, the game is short, but I don’t care! The story was something different from the norm nowadays and was a delight to play. I was gripped from the start, and happily played out my game. While it wasn’t the most exciting story ever, I was compelled enough by the demo, and eventually uncovered the whole truth. The story took an unexpected twist near the end, much to my delight. The ending is conclusive in the SE, but was a little disappointing. Not much happened really. I was expecting to jump out of my seat with excitement, but instead, let out a sarcastic “wow.” This was the only real disappointment of the story, which was otherwise fantastic.
GAMEPLAY:
Beginners should have no trouble in this game as the gameplay is very simple and straightforward, with a lot of locations to explore and a lot of things to do in locations. Kudos to the developers for this. There are 3 modes of difficulty: Casual, Advanced and Hard. The differences are listed below:
Casual: Fast hint and skip recharge speed, sparkles on active areas, items and zoom in scenes, no miss-click penalty.
Advanced: Slower hint and skip recharge, no sparkles on anything except HOS, miss-click penalty.
Hard: NO hint and skip, no sparkles. You receive no help at all on this mode.
HOS AND PUZZLES:
The HOS were honestly my favourite part of the game. Is that wrong? I loved how different they were, and I was delighted every time I ran in to one! I’ve seen reviewers complaining about the amount, but who cares when they are this good! Each HOS is played twice, with the first being the classic junkpile and the second being silhouette. Both were fairly easy, but I enjoyed them. Junkpile scenes contained several “extra-step” objects, but the silhouette scenes contained none. While I found both to be enjoyable, I much preferred the junkpile scenes.
The puzzles were a mixed bag. Some were easy and others were hard. The puzzles at the beginning were the easiest for me, but I did manage to solve a few more after that. The puzzles had clear instructions, which was great.
GRAPHICS & MUSIC:
The graphics are much more colourful and brighter than in previous Dark Dimensions, which was a welcome change for me. The artwork is extremely well-done, with some scenes almost seeming realistic. I was stunned at how well the artwork was drawn. Well done, developers! However, while I was impressed with the graphics, I had two major issues:
My first and biggest issue was that everything seemed out of place. This game says that the town was destroyed in 1956, and from the looks of things, you are returning to the town after it’s destroyed, but to me, everything about this screamed modern. I don’t know, but everything seemed to be too new for the 1950s. There were some things that were from the 1950s, for example, news broadcasts via radios, but everything else to me seemed more modern than the 1950s.
My second issue: They definitely were NOT kidding when they called the game City of Ash. There was ash everywhere! Trophies turned to ash, ghosts turned to ash, ash was used in the game, you name it, it had ash in it. A bit to over the top with the ash theme, developers.
As for the music, I didn’t pay much attention to it. It was not loud enough to put me off, but then again it was too quiet for me to pay much attention…
FEATURES
- 3 modes of play- Casual, Advanced and Hard. I played Casual.
- Hint and Skip- both recharged fairly quickly on Casual and the hint is fairly useful outside HOS.
- There is a map. The map is interactive and shows where there are objectives to complete, to save time backtracking. I found the map to be extremely helpful.
- Journal. The journal keeps track of your findings. It is used fairly often in the early stages of the game, but after the first hour, is hardly used again, which is a little disappointing.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this game. I really enjoyed it from beginning to end and can’t wait to play it again. It is fairly short, but I honestly did not care as the game was SO much fun! Glad I got this with my free coupon. I HIGHLY recommend this game! You will love it!
I recommend this game!
I had never dreamed they would make a sequel to Nightmares From The Deep, so imagine my surprise when I saw this! The demo I played promised an adventure just as good as the first, but a lack of extras sees me waiting for the Standard Edition.
The story follows the same main character, Ms. Black, on another adventure. The story is action-packed, gripping and terrifying, just like the first game in the series, and also sees the return of the chest revealing the background story. I personally enjoyed this story, although the one from the first series was better. The demo went by in a flash, but it lasted 50 minutes. As they say, “time flies when you’re having fun.”
The gameplay was great, and follows the same pattern from the previous game, so experienced players shall have no trouble. It seems to be a rarity for sequels these days, but some familiar characters have actually returned! The demo saw the return of Ms. Black and the mention of her daughter. I just hope the daughter plays a role!
I noticed one big improvement in the gameplay- THERE IS AN INTERACTIVE MAP!!!!! For once, the developers have listened to the reviewers. The interactive map makes things so much easier and cuts the time needed for backtracking dramatically.
My main concern- The demo was filled with cutscenes. At the beginning, there were more cutscenes than gameplay, which ticked me off a little, but as the demo went on, this improved to allow more gameplay.
There were 2 types of HOS- Classic junkpile and silhouette scenes. I preferred the junkpile as it was easier. The silhouette ones were a little harder than I expected, as there was a mini puzzle to solve in each one- how I hate that! But if I ran in to trouble, the Strategy Guide was always there to lend a hand.
As with the last game, we are given the opportunity to play Mahjong in the junkpile scenes instead of finding the objects. This proved to be a welcome, fun break for me, but, as with the last game, the Mahjong does get harder as you go along. To be honest, I did not find the junkpile HOS very challenging.
The puzzles were a mixed bag. Some I found to be challenging, others easy. Whenever I got stuck, the Strategy Guide was there to lend me a hand.
The graphics, once again, are outstanding. The artwork is top-class, the scenes are well-drawn and extremely clear. Well done, Artifex Mundi. Voice-overs were standard, nothing brilliant, but not terrible either. I can’t really make a comment there.
FEATURES
- 3 modes of play- Casual, Advanced, Hard. I played Casual. From what I gather, gameplay modes cannot be switched in-game.
- Hint and Skip- both recharge fast outside HOS. Hint is also extremely helpful
- 12 Collectible golden fish tokens to reveal the backstory of this game (works exactly like the doubloons from the first game).
- Diary to keep track of events. Diary also stores objectives.
- Interactive map- saves a lot of time on backtracking, a major issue in the last game.
CE EXCLUSIVES
- Built in Strategy Guide- very helpful for puzzle solutions. I had to use it more than once.
- Achievements
- Collectible morphing objects and other things
- Bonus Chapter
- Concept Art
- Replay HOS
- Replay puzzles
- Replay cutscenes
The new installment of Nightmares From The Deep should prove to be just as great as the first. However, as I said before, I will wait for the SE due to lack of exciting extras and budget.
I recommend this game!
I told myself as a rule that I would NEVER buy a game without voice-overs. This game was the first one to break that rule. The game that I have played captivated and shocked me right until the very end.
My honest opinion of the story? It was a classic horror story, with many twists and turns and an unexpected, but brilliant, ending to both the main game and the bonus chapter. The game did end conclusively, but the bonus chapter adds that little extra twist that just blows you away. This is quite possibly the best story to a game, and the fact that Alwar could pull this off without the need for voice-overs just shows how skilled they really are.
The game was mostly Hidden Object and Adventure, with the rare puzzle. I saw 2 in the main game and absolutely none in the bonus chapter. The Hidden Object Scenes were not interactive, just a plain list. There was a LOT of HOS, slightly over the amount I would have liked. If the developers had have decreased the HOS and increased the puzzles slightly, it would have been a perfect ratio. The puzzles had simple instructions and were easily able to be completed. If I did get stuck, the Strategy Guide contained a step-by-step solution.
The game had a lot of locations to explore and things to do, but also had a lot of backtracking. Adding to my frustrations, there was NO MAP. Had the developers spent a little bit more time and created a map, this would have been erased. I found it to be a little challenging and at times got stuck, but the hint was able to get me going again, as it was extremely helpful outside of HOS.
The graphics were quite good, considering this game is from 2011, and is even better than some games released today. The scenes are drawn in such detail, it’s almost as if you’re watching an actual movie. The voice-overs were absent from this game, which is unusual for this developer, but the story is so good, voice-overs weren’t needed.
FEATURES
- 2 modes of play- Casual and Expert. I played Casual.
- Hint and Skip- The skip is rarely used, but in Casual, the hint charges at about one minute.
- There is a journal to keep track of events.
CE EXCLUSIVES
- Built in Strategy Guide- shows that there are 12 chapters, although they are extremely short, and a bonus chapter.
- 36 “Beyond” objects to collect throughout the game, although I did not find one, nor did I have any interest in finding one.
- Bonus Chapter- although the main game ends conclusively, this a great bonus chapter.
- Deleted Scenes- These are NOT movie scenes, but game scenes.
- Storyline- Goes through the entire story of the main game only.
- Wallpapers
- Music- play the music from the game
While this CE did not have any interesting exclusives for me, apart from the bonus chapter, I still am glad I bought the CE. This is a brilliant game, and no matter which one you buy, you will be satisfied. The main game for me was somewhere between 3-3 ½ hours, while the bonus game was about 30-45 minutes.
I will most definitely be playing this one again.
I recommend this game!
After an incredibly long wait, I was expecting nothing short of extraordinary from Elephant. While I didn’t get quite as much as I’d expected, the demo from the latest Mystery Trackers still provided great enjoyment for the demo.
The story had the classic spy setting- tracking down the spy, special spy abilities, complete with a secret agent team.
The demo was action packed from the get go, with the story not slowing down once. I was gripped, and with the demo ending on a cliffhanger, I was almost compelled to buy at once.
Familiar characters return in this installment, and I was overjoyed to see the return of Elf, our loveable sidekick. Elf was used quite a bit more in the demo than in the last game, which impressed me.
The HOS were great, especially since, for once in my life, I could solve them without a hint and get the achievements! The HOS are interactive, but aren’t really challenging. I found them easy, but that wasn’t an issue for me.
The puzzles were a mixed bag; some were easy and others were a challenge. Whenever I did run in to a problem, I could always count on the Strategy Guide to help me out.
The gameplay should be fairly simple to those who have played Hidden Object Games before. I found nothing challenging and did not get stuck once. The game features an interactive map and a fast recharging, extremely helpful hint that can help you if you do.
As is custom with newest games, you get a helper to do odd jobs for you, which in this case was Elf. Elf was used a lot more in this game than in past games.
As always, the graphics were stunning. Such excellent detail and effort has been put in to the artwork, with use of real actors, although their mouths do not move with the voice-overs.
FEATURES
- 4 modes of play- Easy, Advanced, Hardcore, Detective. I played Casual.
- Hint and Skip recharge reasonably fast in Casual, and the hint is very helpful outside HOS.
- Interactive map.
- Spy and Assistant files. There are 32 spies and 13 assistants to collect.
- No Diary, which was strange.
CE EXCLUSIVES
- Strategy Guide. Extremely useful if you get stuck or need help with a puzzle.
- Shop. There are collectible coins, which can be used for two different shops- interface and Elf’s family. Interface changes hint and panel designs and Elf’s family upgrades a room for… Elf’s family. :D Elf’s family had a lot more to spend on, so I preferred this shop. In the shop, you could interact with the items.
- Bonus Chapter
- Something called a “Secret room”
- Access to all secret agent and pet files you’ve collected.
- Concept Art
- Music (listen to all music played in the game)
- Video (watch all movies from the game)
- Achievements
This game is packed full of extras and promises to be great value. No matter if you buy the CE or SE, you’re sure to have a great game.
I recommend this game!
Well, I don’t play Time Management games anymore, but when the new Build-a-Lot came out, I had to try it. While this is far from the best Build-a-Lot, I still enjoyed the demo.
For once in the game, there’s a proper story. While I welcomed this at first, I soon found the story to be quite boring. There was something to do with “old spirits”, which I thought was pathetic for this type of game. A story like that really isn’t needed for Build-a-Lot and I have a feeling experienced players won’t like it.
The gameplay is nothing new and should be a breeze for experienced players of the series. There are still the same controls, goals and style of gameplay, with this game doing nothing different to its predecessors. Anyone hoping for a new style of gameplay will be disappointed, but I was quite happy. The levels are timed and if you meet a certain time goal, you will be rewarded with a blue ribbon, as with other games. Experienced players will also be pleased to hear that this game offers you the chance to skip the tutorial.
Speaking of gameplay, there were a couple of things that really annoyed me that I must address in this review:
1. There is no way to undo/cancel any clicks made. One time during level 4, I accidently clicked “demolish” instead of “repair” and was forced to waste time and materials since I could not undo the command. The developers need to listen, this is what Time Management players need!
2. Some of the goals, and ways to achieve them, were pathetic. For example, in Level 5, one of the goals was: “No cabins.” Instead of demolishing all OWNED cabins, like I thought would happen, I had to BUY A CABIN I DID NOT OWN just to demolish it! A sheer waste of time and money that could have been used to complete the level faster!
IMPROVEMENTS ON THE LAST GAME/GAMES
Since this is a new game in a long lasting series, I thought I should point out the improvements to you:
- For the first time in the series, there is a wide-screen. This shows that the developers have upgraded their old game to fit with the new times.
- There are achievements, also something I believe to be a first. This is an added fun twist to the game, which will delight many players.
- The graphics are also highly improved, with everything much, much clearer than previous games. These developers have really put a lot of effort in this game and they must be praised for their efforts.
THINGS THAT HAVEN’T IMPROVED
- There is still no variation in the levels, which means this is once again a game that I could play for no longer than 1-2 hours at a time. I hope for the next game, the developers put some fun variations on levels
So, while I’m not going to buy this because I’ve gone off Time Management games, I still believe this is a great addition to the series that will be welcomed by fans. I will happily recommend the game.
I recommend this game!
This game really isn’t up to standard of the CE’s we’ve been seeing lately. It wasn’t very interesting or fun for me and I quit after 20 minutes.
I had mixed feelings about the story- some aspects were very exciting, but others annoyed me. For example, I did not like the intro at all. Why do all the intros these days have to start with a car/plane crash? It didn’t suit the story of this game at all, and I had a feeling these guys just used it for dramatic effect.
Sometimes the game would get me excited though. The kidnapping scene was what really got me excited, but other than that, the story was quite boring.
The HOS were quite good. There were two types- silhouette and junkpile. Both were fairly easy, but I liked junkpile better.
The puzzles were a little confusing and hard. One puzzle in particular on the resort door confused me. I followed the instructions, but I could not even attempt to solve it. This was very poor on the developers’ part. What annoyed me even more was the fact that the skip took 60 seconds to recharge on casual mode. I’d expect this on Advanced Mode, but Casual is pushing it.
The gameplay is nothing new and Intermediate players should find it a breeze. There are three modes of play, one of which turns off the hint and skip feature.
In the game, there are quite a number of things to collect and, to my surprise, there was not much backtracking. As part of the CE, you can collect 40 morphing objects. However, I found that I was quite bored and was just waiting for the hint to recharge so it could tell me what to do next. Not once was I having fun with the game. I couldn’t wait for it to be over, and this was the first time in a LONG time that I did not finish the demo.
The graphics were standard. They weren’t horrible, but weren’t fascinating either. The artwork was well-done, with no grainy scenes or anything to bother me.
Voice-overs were also standard, however, I think the voice of Allan could have had a bit more work done to it. The intro voice of Allan was dull and boring.
FEATURES
- 3 modes of play- Easy, Medium and Hard.
- Hint and Skip- both recharge quite slow on easy mode at 60 seconds on easy mode. On medium, this is increased to 3 minutes and on hard, the hint and skip cannot be used. The hint is useful outside HOS.
- There is not really a diary, but rather, something called a guide to keep track of all your “discoveries.” This does not hold any events of the game.
- There is a map that is interactive.
- There is NO STRATEGY GUIDE
- Collectible morphing objects (CE Exclusive)
- Achievements (CE Exclusive)
- Bonus Chapter (CE Exclusive- bonus content)
- Art gallery (CE Exclusive- bonus content)
- Music player (plays all the music of the game. CE Exclusive- bonus content)
- Free play puzzles (CE Exclusive- bonus content)
- Free play HOS (CE Exclusive- bonus content)
To conclude, I really didn’t enjoy this game. There are just so many better games out there. I found this one to be dull and boring. My advice- skip this, find something better.
I don't recommend this game.
