I've never felt the need to comment on music before but I thought it was beautiful and simply had to leave one. Other than the music, I liked the VO and thought they were well done. The graphics is probably the games weakest point compared to other releases we've seen from this dev but there are several other qualities and aspects that I did enjoy. Plot: You're one of several "guardians of light" in the clock tower where Elchron, the clock keeper suddenly changes for the worse. He "upsets" time and uses the gears to alter the land ("the catastrophe"#. You and the others are cast out of the tower and the 5 gears of light are scattered across the land. You must find and return the gears to the clock tower and restore order. - Widescreen option, w/ 3 lvls of play - Can chose the SIZE of the cursor; I loved this feature as I tend to groan when given a cursor the size of my fist to tool around with - Journal is usful & tracks 3 things: Clues, Gears and Echo Crystals #which you find and drag to the center to play/stop/listen#. ** I really liked the ability to continue listening to a shard after closing the journal while I cont. to explore the game. Huge plus for me - HO scenes = list of 12 items #full list up front# with white/yellow/blue name tags. Yellow = move another item to find it; Blue #unique) = Requires a "Rune of Transformation" to find. Clicking the rune transforms modern items into their older equivalent which put a nice spin on HOS and kept them interesting. Items weren't impossible to find & few were cleverly hidden without being invisible. No click penalty in casual - Puzzles were fun and of good variety; some unique - Mini games aren't too hard and I enjoyed the ones which requried you to place scenes from storyline in the correct order, so if you skipped them all, this task may take you a bit longer to complete - Game length was too short for me but overall, for a SE game it's was definitely worth using a credit
Game is 3rd in the series & having purchased the first two, I've been waiting for this release since the beta test in June..
I LOVE the decision to release a CE & this one is full of goodies that I look for in a CE purchase.
+ Well balanced mixture of HOS, puzzle and adventure. Not your typical HO. Balance was perfect for me so probably a little more puzzle / mini games than HO but well spaced. Was never bored and I didn't groan at the thought of yet another HO scene getting in the way of having fun.
Plot: Find out what's become of the missing theatre performers and the discover what's behind their mysterious "ailments" and return them to human form
- Basic options menu: music / sound adjustments, custom cursor - 3 levels of play: casual, advanced, and hardcore. I played hardcore mode. No hints, sparkles or puzzle skips and you can't change it in mid-game #so beware#. No help whatsoever and you're on your own - Crisp graphics, very clean. Mouse clicking was accurate - Nice VO and much improved since beta test. Way more believable and talented with option to skip dialoge
+ 7 Chapters #not including bonus play# + Locking inventory window #love games w/ this niffty little option!# + Journal w/ replayable story scenes
- No map as in previous games but back tracking wasn't bad at all and was logical and relatively contained to a few areas
+ Special powers are learned along the way needed to progress in the game #5 total#
+ HOs were a mixture of list/interactive and the opposite version #place items where they belong# Not too dark at all or impossibly invisible, and while technically junkpiles, they weren't too cluttered. I'd describe them as "scattered heaps"
+ Puzzles are a new spin the old which was refreshing while some I've never seen before
CE Includes:
+ Achievements #11 total# + 31 Hidden Objects to collect #vinyl records# + Bonus puzzles to play afterwards + SG and bonus chapter
Simply put... If you enjoyed the first two games, you don't wanna miss out on this one!!
A new breed of virus has spread throughout the City of Oxford. You must search the city for a missing girl who holds the key to stopping the global epidemic!
How to describe a game that has everything and where to begin?
- Let's start out with the words "custom game mode"
** That's right folks! If casual and advanced modes aren't workin' for ya, simply customize your own! You want more sparkles or none at all? Hints not charging fast enough? Tired of going for coffee while you wait for the skip button to charge? All these things and more can be customized to your liking... Don't worry, if you don't like it you can adjust it later, even from within the game! Everything from video quality to voice levels was adjustable before you ever begin **
- Widescreen is available
- Voice acting which was simply amazing and spot on. I found them so believable that it actually creeped me out a little in a few places.
- Movie scenes are real
- Characters are real actors
- Visuals/graphics were super high quality, HOS included. For example, the blackberry phone you pick up practially looks like the real deal. It's insane!
- Storyline was just perfect. My heart absolutley broke for the two little twins, all from the opening story clip and it pulls you in fast. Kept my intrest from the word go. Lost some sleep playing this one well past my bed time.
- Journal / Map
** Map isn't interactive so you can't click/hop to other places. It's really not that useful at all since it doesn't tell you anything except where you're standing and the name of the locations around you **
- Bonus game, although I purchased the CE I haven't played the bonus content yet. I was so impressed that I couldn't wait to post a review. Don't walk away from this one without at least trying this game!
I couldn't go longer than 20 min into demo but I knew after the first few min that this wasn't going to fit my preferances in game styles. I didn't rate the storyline as I didn't invest enough time to form an honest opinion.
- No voice overs - HOS had one or two interactive items, poor lighting, blurry details - Hint button works by dragging an item you want to know about and dropping in the hint window which is promtly followed by intructions on how to use it. Very much like a drink machine.. stick a quater in the top and (*bing!*), your soda is now available for pickup. Service w/ a "snooze" - There is NO map and there was already too much going back and forth for objects. Felt like nothing more than tedious busy work, requiring no thought at all.
With so many better games out there to choose from, this one just doesn't live up to the standard... but then again, I'll admit I'm definately spoiled.
