I was able to play 45 minutes of Night IN The Opera before RL (real life) called to me. The game is a strange combination of an Adventure murder mystery, a bit of a HOG (can't remember what you call this type of HOG) and a lot Match3 (which, thankfully, I like). Most of the music soundtrack sounds like ersatz classical. During the Match3s it is especially grating. The Match3s tiles seem very small compared to other games which was also a problem for me..that and the fact that the Match3 games weren't very fun. The time to load scenes seemed interminable. The game just has a really slow, draggy feel to it. The graphics were nice including the cut scene at the beginning. I wish there had been voice overs.
I will probably buy Night In The Opera because I am an opera buff but it doesn't seem to have been designed with the classical music/opera lover in mind
I recommend this game!

I love this game for so many of the reasons stated by others on this thread and in the Game Forum for this title...but I really love it for the art direction and graphic design which does a very good job of evoking sitting in a cinema during the time period when Mata Hari, a real World War I spy, actually lived. NOT SPOILING the plot....
Because the story is set around 100 years ago (circa 1916) during the early years of the SILENT Movies - when dialogue was printed on the screen and IN-BETWEEN scenes there were printed cards w text which filled in story details and which were decorated with interesting graphics which might suit the time period or tone of the film - the game developers chose to include these printed cards in-between scenes in Mata Hari right down to the "flicker" effect of projecting a Silent Movie on a theater screen using a "Talkie" Movie projector (the number of frames per minute was different with each format - hence the flicker. The game developer also chose to make the cards B&W (Black & White) like Silent Movies AND designed in the type of "scratchiness" that one sees in old, un-restored Silent and Talkie pictures.
I recommend this game highly!

What could I possibly add to the comments of other reviewers her and in the Game Forum for this title. Annoying characters popping in and out. Too much dialogue. Annoying HOGS with witless things to do. Its often unclear what to do within a scene and one ends up using one's hints too soon.Boring, draggy music that made me sleepy rather than relaxed (and I AM a classical music fan). When a game has a lot of characters and more than the average dialogue the game needs to move along at a quick clip. This does not. The novel by Jane Austen is a classic; the game is not. I will not be buying this game after giving it a 35 minute tryout.
I don't recommend this game.

I'm about halfway through and already wish this game would never end. Lots of fun HOGs and puzzles (the latter challenging to me). Nice orchestral soundtrack and (vocal) recitative. There are lots of different scenes which within limits one can visit in one's own order which is nice for more spontaneous play. A great game for those who enjoy contemporary-style Broadway music and/or Victorian mysteries as well as well-designed games with interesting characters, a story line and a bit of wit.
I recommend this game!

LOVED the ferret! I know another reviewer was bothered by the ferret, Ferris, but we enjoyed his antic, comic relief. This IS a traditional HO game with some great mini-games thrown in (could have had some more of these). The graphics were atmospheric and beautiful. The story line and eccentric characters made for quite an adventure. I actually played this sitting side-by-side with my partner (a game beginner), each of us taking turns playing scenes or one of us finishing up an HO or miini-game when the other one got stuck. We've been so hooked on this game that we've hardly gone out of the house. The theme referencing the great inventor Tesla warrants bonus points for this game!
I recommend this game!

Venice, Italy; history, art museums, Carnival masks, graveyards, etc. Really aesthetic hidden object scenes and terrific and varied puzzles. I really enjoyed this game and was sorry to see it end.
