This is such a refreshing break from my stash of HOGs and HOPAs. No dreary demons or decaying mansions in this one. Just bright and pretty colors and fun to be had everywhere.
Love this kind of game. Too bad all M3's aren't as good but this one stands out. Endless hours of play, four different games in one. This falls into what I call major stress relief and "mindless fun". Definitely a bit of strategy with each puzzle but nothing that overworks the old brain. Just fun, relaxing and with a pleasant soundtrack and heartstoppingly beautiful graphics. Bring on more of this type of game, BigFish, please!
Just completed the bonus and I have to say, this game was a thrilling bit of perfection. The graphics were beautifully drawn, the locations easy to navigate, the storyline fabulous. The story kept me "hooked" (argh matey!) all the way through and I think this is what sets this great game apart from others. I couldn't wait to find out what happened to Isabelle and her husband Captain William.
The story is narrated by an actor with a Scottish accent and it's just enough voiceover without going overboard. I like the minimal voiceover, so thanks to developers for that.
I managed to complete most of the minipuzzles, some "stumped" me, though and I had to skip. The minis were all standard ones us gamers have seen before. The HOGs were very challenging which I love. There are a couple of different types of HOGs and I especially enjoyed the "find two of this and two of that" HOG. There's a map and a hint button which doesn't always give you the best direction in where to go or what to do next.
I had to find hidden coins throughout the game in order to unlock treasure chests scattered in different locations. You have to be able to unlock the chests or you can't progress. That was fun! I never did find all of them but you don't have to find all, just most of them.
Bigfish, keep providing and selling pirate-themed games. I think I own all of them but this one is outstanding. I couldn't stop playing once I started it. Highly recommend!
I've played this one through twice and love it. It's the perfect description of what a CE should be and you definitely get your money's worth even if you have to pay full price. I've gifted this game too. The artistry and graphics are top notch and all the puzzles are fun to do. I didn't find any of the minis too difficult. The HOGs are great. Nothing is super-easy there and they add more challenge to those by making a few puzzles within puzzles for us. Another great thing about this game is that it flows nicely. You don't get hung up or lost when you have inventory items you don't know how to use yet. The hint button gives you just enough leeway to point you in the right direction but I seldom used it. I didn't notice a lot of back-and-forthing with this game. It's a long involved game and a great way to spend a rainy cold weekend when you don't want to go out. Aliens are also a welcome sight instead of having a game with another mad scientist or ghostly demon. Thanks to the developers!
I love this game and everything about it. It's the perfect creepy story which is believable because of the live-action actors playing roles in the vid scenes. The story and the first few locations grab you from the start. You feel compelled to keep on playing to solve the mystery. The graphics and the scenery are top notch, you can feel yourself shivering in all the scenes. I've played this one probably five times now and I keep wondering how long before I get a break to "warm myself up by building a fire" or stopping to rest. What I love about this story is that you don't need a map, but you do need to remember a few of the locations and how to return to them later in the story. Everything isn't linear and you do a bit of back-and-forthing but not much. A lot of tasks you'll find can be accomplished in the same location before venturing off to another snow-filled place. I love finding the morphing items and there's a point in the CE where you get a nice little reminder of where you stand with these items. Some of the items are very cleverly hidden and some are small and you might miss them if you blink. The MCF developers were quite clever with this game and with the two "Felix" fish, too. One of the hallmarks of a great game for me is being able to solve the minis and all of them are do-able even if you're impatient like I am. I found this refreshing in a CE because I tend to skip minis sometimes because I get so frustrated with some of them. And to top it all off, the music is haunting and perfectly fits the grim cold loneliness and despair of the broken-down wintery scenes. Kudos to the musicians and to those who used the tunes to make the game even better. To summarize: this is the type of game every developer should strive for. It's perfect in every way with the exception of having a map, which isn't necessary. THUMBS UP ALL THE WAY!
Since most of the reviews here seem to be on the demo only I'll give my review of the one hour demo. I disliked this game because of the cheesy dialog and the cartoonish and not-crisp graphics. Everything looked slightly distorted and was "off", at least on my new laptop screen. I didn't see any collectibles or achievements, no morphing objects. I simply MUST have those things in order for me to buy a CE. The only good thing about this game were that a few of the minis were original. I won't be buying this one.
A very pretty game, artistically, but lacking badly in both plot development and play especially at the last couple of locations before the ending. The game starts off well enough and I was intrigued but most of the minis were extremely difficult and so whacked out that you'd have to live inside the developer's heads to know how to solve them. I don't like games where I have to consult the SG all the time, either. Thank goodness for the skip button but it was a good five minutes' wait most puzzles. I didn't like the endless repetition bit with the clocks. How boring! I did like the fact that Madame Fate and her circus were tied to the Dalimers. I think a bit more story would have linked them better. Madame Fate didn't have the quirkly humor this time around and she seemed off but then of course, she's dead. I would love for the MCF gang to take on another Ravenhearst game for us. Surely someone can create a new generation of Dalimer villain or resurrect one of the older ones. I liked the Bobbleheads but only found 11. I didn't know who one of them was so I guess he appeared in an early MCF game that I don't have. Never did find all the secret cards, either. There were so many other things to collect along the way. All in all, the game was ok but it's a different type of game and certainly not as fun as the original Madame Fate. For the average puzzle hound like myself, this game was way over my head.
This game drove me bonkers, especially the first segment before in the living room and the room at the asylum. Once I broke out of there, it was much easier to figure things out. The story is creepy and the characters such as Icarus are otherworldly. HOGs are scattered throughout the game and most are very difficult but not impossible to complete without using the hint button.
As far as gameplay, this is a game for logical and sharp thinkers, which I appreciated. You''ll really use your wits to figure out how to navigate and place the objects you pick up in inventory. One thing that would have helped me is to recall which floor each of the characters lived on. I did a lot of back and forthing because I couldn't recall where a certain room was etc. A map would have helped. I didn't find the journal to be much help but it gave a few clues about progressing through the asylum and addressing certain tasks necessary for me to complete. When using the hint button, the developer assumes you know your way around but several times, I couldn't find my way to a location.
All in all, it was with supreme satisfaction that I completed the game and rarely used the hint button. I think this game is one of the most difficult I've played and is a great mental challenge for everyone. I was pleased to find out that a sequel is in the works.
I love this game! What a nice break from creepy ghost-filled mansions on deserted islands and my usual HOGs or HOPA games. I'm not much of a match 3 fan but played this in demo and enjoyed it so much I had to purchase it. I love how it is more challenging as you move up the levels. Very nice and relaxing and fun. I can't stop playing it.
When you get to certain layouts and levels, you have to use the powerups or you won't win that level. I like the challenges.
Thanks for a good Halloween game. Would love to see more for this season.
I was underwhelmed by this game. Granted, the graphics are stunningly beautiful and the story was fun. But that's not enough for me. I was constantly confused by the back and forthing. The elevator was maddening, never could remember which floor to get off on and I was always wrong. I had to keep using hints to figure out where to go next. Even the map wasn't helpful because it was hard to havigate the different locations with that infernal elevator. Normally, with these games I have a sense of direction and can figure out how to return to an earlier location with ease. But this game was way too confusing for me. A first! There are also a couple of instances where I finished a task in one locale, had to return back to the top of Eden only to find out I had to revisit the same locale again! I could have knocked out two birds with one stone but the gamers don't let you do that. All in all, a beautifully artistic pretty game but not as much fun as others by this developer. I wish I'd known it wasn't as good as I hoped and I wouldn't have purchased it.
I did not like this game at all. I don't like to be challenged to the point of pulling my hair out. There were a few scenes in the first hour that were hard to navigate. The rest of the game was slow and boring to me. The cable car scene where I had to figure out how to enter the building was rough. Lots of to-ing and fro-ing which I don't like.
I think the whole point of these games is they should be fun. This one was drudgery from the start.
The minigames within the HOS were the only thing that were fun and slightly different. I'm glad I got this one for free because it's not worth paying for, in my opinion.
