The thing that I loved the most about this game was the unique twist on the HOS. There is a "goggles" feature where you can switch from standard HOS to a mode that you match up pieces like a puzzle. Hard to explain. I get tired of games with too many HOS, Way too redundant. The goggles was such a refreshing twist.
The puzzle's are not too difficult, to my preference. I played in Hard mode, and found the game to be just right. Story was perfect I want more! I hope there is a sequel!
If you like a game that has a deep story, with a good balance of HOS and puzzles this is the game. Again, the unique twist on the HOS was awesome.

I saw the Dark Parable sale and read the reviews which were very good on each one, and started with this the first one. I just plain had a lot of fun with it. The story is simple, but it is threaded nicely through out the game. The music was nice and fit the game and just flowed along with me. The graphics where beautiful, sharp, crisp. Because it is an older game, it doesn't have any of the bells and whistles like a map, interactive FROGS and the hint button only works in the FROGS (fragmented objects found to create an item.) It should be noted that there are only FROGS in this game. This was a nice break for me. Also , there are only a few not difficult puzzles.
With all that said I found the game to be a challenge of my memory and ability to figure out items as to where the go. I should say there is a INSPECT button which is basically a task list which actually shows you the sences you need to go to. Given that this was so helpful I didn't have to use the walkthrough once.
There are lots and lots of things to make with the FROGS and lots of freely roaming the game environment. So many nooks and crannies to explore with hidden rooms etc.
I just really enjoyed placing this game and would highly recommend this to anyone (except those of you who hate backtracking, or ones who love conventional HOS.
Ok, So after suffering through the first game, Twisted Lands: Shadow Town, I finally got to play the game I initially wanted to play. And how glad I am that I stuck through it all!
First, let me start off by saying that I was less than thrilled playing Shadow Town. Its game play was redundant way too many HOS and far to few mini games. However, I thought that the story line was great, and it led into Insomniac perfectly. As uncommitted as I was to Shadow Town, I strongly suggest new players to the series to play that game first, before playing Insomniac. You will thank me that you did.
Anyways, onto this game. I hate reading reviews that spoil too much so I will not do that. What I will say is, I have never rated a game with 5 stars, until Insomniac. I am a picky gamer. I require a well balanced game, and this one delivered. Balanced means an equal dosage of quality storyline, mini games, and HO's.. The first game lacked the mini games which are my preference as I am a puzzle fan. In fact now that I think about it, Insomniac had kind of a Professor Leighton feel to it, well with HO's of course.
After playing this game, play Origins. Once you finish Origins, you will feel like this series has had a good beginning middle and end (even though the end is actually the beginning, go figure).
I played this game because it was recommended by other reviewers to play this game first before playing Twisted Lands: Insomniac, which I was very excited to play. I posted a review in the collectors edition before I played the rest of the series, which after playing those games, I have changed my views on this game.
Let me explain, as that was pretty vague. At first I didn't like this game very much, but when you play all three games, Twisted Lands: Shadow Town, Twisted Lands: Insomniac, and Twisted Lands: Origins, in consecutive order, it all makes sense, it all flows together. There were aspects of this game I did not like, actually more aspects I didn't like than those I did.
I like a HOPA games where there is a good balance between story line, mini games, and HO's. In Shadow Town, I was highly disappointed with the lack of mini games, and the quantity of HO's. They repeat the same HO scenes far too frequently. In addition there is way too much back and forth and back and forth and back and forth for my taste.but that's just my humble opinion.
HOWEVER, that being said, this game is a must play if you plan to play Insomniac. Insomniac and Origins are far better games and will be getting fantastic reviews from me. You NEED to play this game first. It is just that simple. I almost didn't finish this game before moving on, but I am so glad I did, bear with it, finish it, then play the other two in succession, you will be happy you did! I was.
I recommend this game!

This game has a lot of reviews so I will keep this brief. There is an interactive map for going to the different areas and even shows a picture of the scene before you click to go. There is a journal and the hints are exactly what I like to see in a game, where to go and a little about what to do (I hate "nothing to do here hints.) The graphics were good and only fuzzy when it fit the atmosphere of the location.
What sells me on this game, is the humor. I found myself laughing out loud which I don't normally do during a game. It is a vampire game that really isn't spooky because of the humor.
Also, I liked that there was lots to find and some very creative objects with different ideas for what to do with them. Again, I would laugh when I just had to hit the hint button, and read what to do. This is why I titled this review thinking outside the box. Early on I stopped trying to figure out what an object would be for, or when I would ever use it. There is back and forth, but again if that's not your thing, the map is right there to help.
I enjoyed this game, not my favorite but worth the sale price - relaxing and non-stressful.
Ok, I played this game because I wanted to play Twisted Lands: Insomniac, and the reviews said to play this first. I have not yet played Insomniac, so I will review for this game only and not the combined storyline.
I do not want to give anything away, so I will be very vague in my review.
For the first hour and a half I really enjoyed this game. A few too many HOS but otherwise good game play story music etc. Unfortunately, that's where the fun stopped and the boredom began.
I became very frustrated when there was a single HOS scene that was visited almost 6 times. It got to where I knew where everything was, and I could do the scene in seconds. The HOS did not have any animation or interactive play.
In the game itself the storyline became drawn out, and almost forced. I don't mind going back and forth a bit, but there was so much of it in this game that I actually stopped playing the game 3/4 of the way through. I seriously considered not finishing it, but I really want to play Insomniac. I finished it, and played the bonus content. It was a very pleasant surprise when I started the bonus content. The bonus content was far better than the game itself.
Maybe I will be able to update this post and say that playing this game was totally worth my time before playing Insomniac, time will tell.
I loved this game from beginning to end. My interest was peaked through out and I got annoyed when I had to take a break to go to appointments and shopping! The idea of missing children with special abnormal abilities and your task to bring them back was awesome.
The visuals were great and remained so throughout the game. There were good voice overs and real people video clips that told each part of the story and what your task was.I was engrossed through out with no moments of being bored. The very best part of this game, and unusual at that, is that you gain the abilities that each of the children had that you then use to move along in the game. This was just plain fun, fun, fun. Interesting ones at that. I liked the ability to make things larger.
There is so much to say, so I'll make it short and brief, well worth the money. I got the CE and glad I did because I got stumped a few times. Oh yeah, good hint system with very fast refill on casual play (three levels of play.) Sparkles were good but not too obvious and I admit I missed a few things - which makes the game challenging.
I really don't like putting a game down but I have to be honest and say that I just sort of went through the game doing the motions of HO and hunting for items. The HO"s were good and did matched the atmosphere of the locations. I can't put my finger on it, which doesn't help in a review but the game struck me as having the potential to be a great game and fell short.
The story was interesting but basically never really developed as the game went along. Collecting diary pages all saying basically the same thing. Some of the puzzles were very different and I liked that part. No voice overs, no photos of characters (2). Sorry but after playing some great games in a row, this just did not catch my interest. Oh yeah, the ending just happened, I mean poof end of game. I really didn't like that.
I enjoyed this first in a series and would recommend it for that reason alone. It was an easy set of places to go, although I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't a little more complex. The HOS were very good (items challenging to find,} and they mixed it up with some different versions of HOS. I stress that it was a short game and would recommend you get it with some Big Fish sale.
Despite some of my con's, I did enjoy this game and will shortly begin the next if what is now a 4 game series.
Enter the world of Drawn. Explore the Painted Tower and unravel its mysteries on your quest to save the hope of the kingdom. Can you reach the top of the tower?
This was an older game that I bumped into and after reading the reviews, thought I would give it a try. I'm glad I did as it was a delightful change of mood and much more "adventure game" in that it had no HOS. This was a nice break from them.
The story line is interesting and keeps you interested during each twist and turn of the. The story, and game itself was cleaver in that the game has you traveling in different framed pictures. The puzzles were good and some very challenging. I must admit that I got confused a few time and didn't know what the heck to do next and resorted to a walk through for assistance. I don't mind that because I've either been very challenged, or I've gotten very tired.
I recommend this one for a fun and enjoyable trip through a child's view of the world and how to cope with extreme difficulty. Have fun .
