I tried the demo, and then came here to see if I was missing something, but apparently a large chunk of other people are having the same technical problem as I did, to wit: I can't get past the first puzzle. I solved it for the target, and then it just never progressed. It's BORKED. Glad I didn't pay for it!
It's pretty obvious that the Golden Age of Hidden Object games is behind us. This game reminded me of that Golden Age, mainly by how seriously it fails to live up to any minimal standards of fun, danger, quality artwork, and good writing. It's so bad I was anxiously waiting for the demo to end so I could stop playing it. Don't waste your time or money on this one.
It's a nice little game, but WOW is it slow and tedious. I'm not a rookie at hidden object games, but I spent most of my time either trying to figure out what the heck i was supposed to be looking for, or waiting for the help petals to regenerate. I guess if you have nothing else to do and plenty of time to do it in, then I guess it might be OK for you.
I realize you guys have to come out with a new game each day, but this is a clear example of having to sell SOMETHING, no matter how low the quality. Slow, annoying cheesy and somehow too easy and confusing at the same time. Start again.
I only played the demo, and I can't imagine that I would ever pay for this one. The 4Friends Games have always been plagued by sketchy, over-the-top voice acting (and the same actors appear in game after game) but the acting has never been this appalling. Some characters sound like they are reading their lines for the first time, and others sound like they have no idea what's happening in the game, so have no idea what their emotions should be. It's really embarrassingly corny and over-the-top most of the time. Not to mention that the characters veer from really bad Irish accents to a total unwillingness to even attempt one (for which we should probably be grateful.) I can't even imagine very small children enjoying this.
I enjoyed the demo of this game quite a bit, so I went ahead and bought it. I can't say that I can recommend it, though. The HOP games were too short and easy, as were a lot of the puzzles. And the game was WAY too short. It seemed like it ended abruptly, and while I don't feel like I absolutely NEED a super-hard boss fight at the end of every game, this one just sort of petered out. And the Bonus Chapter is super short. All in all, not good value for the money. It's shame, too, because it had a lot of potential.
First of all, let me say that I enjoyed this game. A lot. It's very creative, just challenging enough, and just the right length. The jump-scares are a little cheesy, but overall the tension level is good. Now. That being said, the really over-the-top performance by all the male voice actors (especially the Mark character, who comes across as a snide, self-important jerk) are REALLY distracting. I understand that voice actors often do this stuff in a vacuum, and really don't know what the game is like at all, but SOMEBODY should be able to "direct" them. Yes, this is an ongoing issue with games, and EIPIX games are often guilty of this, but this one really stands out, because everything else in the game is good or excellent.
By far the worst entry so far in the MCF canon... probably the worst game I've ever bought from BigFish. An attempt to recapture the fun and spirit of the original Ravenhurst HO game, or a cheap cash-in attempt? The franchise painted itself into a narrative corner with the big wrap-up of the Alister Dalimar saga in the last two Ravenhurst epics, so this is them trying to figure out a way to squeeze a few more bucks out. I'll just say, I'm glad I got this on sale. The puzzles are too easy (and short) the voice actors are insufferable, there's no plot to speak of, and there is certainly no detecting required. And whoever came up with the INANE cinematic that plays between every room has a special place waiting for them in Heck alongside Charles and Alister. I knew it was going to be bad as soon as the first cinematic featuring Victor played, and his voice was that of a community theater actor in a Sherlock Holmes play. Shame on everybody involved in this.
