I am new to tower defense games. I've tried the last few to come out, but the lack of tutorial made it difficult to decide whether to buy the game as I wasn't quick enough to figure the game out before the hour was up. This game is totally different. I played in the easy mode and the tutorial and directions were clear enough I was thoroughly disappointed when the hour was up. Since I didn't try the harder mode (probably perfect for TD players with more experience) I can't comment on that level of play and will leave those comments to others who have played lots of TD games. The graphics are cute - both the Martians and the cows- and easy to see.. I always turn the music down, so I can't comment on that. The play is smooth, and if you find the difficulty on easy too slow, you may change to the harder mode at any time. If you want to try a game of this type, I recommend it highly.
When I saw this TM come up, there were only three reviews so I purchased the game based on those and I am not at all sorry. The game has great graphics, a pleasant voice over, sounds that are not overly intrusive, and nice background music. The storyline is not new, but the developers took a lot of time and effort with it. Some may not like the continued story updates between levels, but I have enjoyed following the story. Each level has different tasks, so it doesn't seem repetitive. I have had to play many of them twice to get three stars, so it isn't an easy game, but it isn't impossible either (good thing as I usually find myself consulting the forums for some TM games!). I have been working on the game for almost 5 hours now and am on level 18, so this game will take a while (days :)! to complete. I would definitely recommend it if you like TM games. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
As TM games go, this is typical, however I enjoyed the graphics and storyline as well as the play enough to buy the game as soon as my free trial ended. As others have said, the voices get a bit repetitive, but I seemed to tune them out after a while. Each level was different enough, it kept my interest, and the play on the normal level was easy enough I have only had to repeat one level so far to get three stars (I am writing this after level 15). With the exception of the repetitive voices at the end of each task, this is a very well done game. Try it!
I like TM games and was happy to find a new one. I waited to review it until I had finished the whole game. Others have written about the game in general, so I will just talk about my experience. I consider myself an intermediate TM player as I am not the fastest clicker in the world :). This game was just about perfect for me. Some levels I had to work at to get gold (play them two-three times) and others I finished up easily. Those seemed to be mixed up in the later levels, so one level was a challenge, and the next seemed easy. Maybe I just found the correct strategy the first time! I still haven't figured out how to get gold on the last level, but I look forward to the challenge. I am glad I spent the money for the game. It has a lot of levels (more than 45 but I don't remember the exact number) and has taken me several days to complete. If you like TM games that use more strategy than quick clicking, give this game a try, I think you'll be impressed.
I enjoy TM games that have a bit of a challenge but are not impossible for a slow but steady "clicker" and Campgrounds fits the description perfectly. I especially like:
The number of levels - 60 - plus bonus levels. The game takes days to finish, not hours.
All levels can be completed even if you run out of time, but getting the gold can take some serious strategy. A few of the later levels took several (a lot!) of replays before I figured out the strategy that worked for me. When I checked the forums for hints, I found that others had managed gold with very different strategies. I like that there is not only one way to do each level.
There are two paths you may choose: for profit, or to conserve the ecology. I chose the eco path the first time through. The maps, story, and challenges change a bit when you choose a different path. So you really get two games for the price if you replay and choose a different path.
The graphics are clear and not cluttered. The level does not start until you make the first move, so you can study the screen and try to plan out your strategy ahead of time.
I can't comment on the music as I turn mine off when I play so I can listen to my own music. The sound effects are fine.
All in all, a very enjoyable, challenging game. I would definitely recommend this game if you like a combination of TM and strategy and don't mind working a bit to achieve gold.
