I tried this game out when I first joined Big Fish, and it baffled me then. This time around, I had a free game voucher so I thought "why not?" and downloaded it. I persevered to the end, and I am so glad it is over! Conquering Everest would have been a piece of cake compared to this.
The best thing was the story line, if you're a conspiracy theorist. I might have been compelled to check out the opening statement #based, sort of, on true events# on Wikipedia but I lost the will to live. The trick is to check every single nook and cranny with your mouse, because you won't be able to get far otherwise. The help function is arduous, it does give you more or less direct instructions on how to do things but it takes ages for the hint to recharge #I am a softie that likes to play "easy" versions of games with quick recharges#. Some of the games are hard to understand.
If I were an advanced player #and boy, did this game confirm that I am not!# you could sink your teeth into this challenge. However, if you're after entertainment only, avoid!
*Based on Easy option It's a shame that there are a large number of technical problems and language difficulties with this game, because I had a good and challenging time working through it. There are some unique features, such as how they show the hints, and the hidden objects scenes are challenging. The puzzles were a mix of incredibly easy and impossible to understand. There's a little comic relief in the form of a talking ferret, and the plot was good. If the game is re-worked and the voice-over artists changed, I'd give it a 4.5 or 5. If you can persevere through the problems, give it a try.
When I saw that this was a Youda production, I was a bit apprehensive, since I had terrible trouble with one of their previous hidden object games. But this was a very pleasant surprise. The plot was quite original, and it didn't commit the cardinal sin of stopping at the end with either no resolution or a cheap "and then they lived happily ever after". The level of challenge was good, the game instructions easy to understand, and the diary was VERY helpful. Great graphics, but the characters are drawn to the Youda format. Finding some of the gold coins drove me mental, but luckily you don't need every single one. I would have recommended this game for all ages #who love a good pirate story# but the scene in the bathroom might be too scary for youngsters #more details here would be a spoiler#.
I found that the plot didn't "gel" for me. I used the hint button a zillion times just trying to find my way around; I couldn't logically work my way from scene to scene otherwise. I think that the hidden object scenes and mini games would have been quite easy were it not for the illogical instructions on some of the mini games and very weird names given to some objects in the hidden object scenes. According to the game designers, an oil can is, in fact, a butter dish.
If you like a challenge, navigating through this game without using the hints will do it for ya. Otherwise, it's not up to the high standards I have come to expect from games marketed through Big Fish.
