I like the Haunted Hotel series... I have all of them, so I was glad to see another installment to the series. While the artwork and details were excellent, I found the actual plotline somewhat lacking. How long does it take for someone to realize there are no 'living' guests in the hotel? Also so much back and forth, back and forth, that I was almost tempted to quit before I finished. Lots of puzzles, some harder than others, and some just time-fillers. Won't go into details regarding actual game play, as it's been reviewed. I did like the bonus game, but that and the main game play left me feeling a bit of 'ho-hum' at the end.
I always wait with bated breath for Casual Arts to release a new 'Vacation Adventures'. While the Park Ranger series continues to be my favorite, Cruise Director runs a close second. I won't go into a lot of details about game play, as that has been done. As with the last release of the Park Adventures, I was impatient to play this one so ordered the CE - still not super impressed with the extra stuff that comes along with it, but that's how much I love these developers and these two series. Hours and hours of delightful, calming play with several difficulty levels. When you buy any Vacation Adventures series, you get what you pay for: great graphics, tons of hidden objects, and relaxing, enjoyable play time. Another great installment!
Having played numerous Hidden Expedition games and enjoyed most of them, I have to say I wasn't entirely thrilled with this SE addition to the series. As always, Eipix offered great art, graphics, and sound, but the story seemed a bit on the fuddled side to me, as did the game play.
Maybe I just had a couple of 'off' days, but I found the bouncing back and forth to different scenes a bit disjointed. In order to complete a task inside a building, I had to go outside the building numerous times to find objects I needed back inside to solve one problem. I lost track of my objectives with all the back and forth.
The puzzles were either easy or hard, and some confusing as to the goal, even with the info explanation, but again, maybe that was just me being 'off'.
All in all it is an okay game, and I did enjoy the length (about 5 hours playing time) which made it worth my while, as did the trip back in history to the Qin dynasty.
Try it for yourself and decide, but I'd suggest playing the trial before you buy.
This second installment of Dreamland Solitaire: Dragon's Fury is similar to the first in type of play. It's such a relaxing game, with pleasant and unobtrusive background music, great card play and challenges, and in length. You get plenty of levels and play time out of this one, just as with the first Dreamland.
The challenges to overcome include many that were found in the original, plus some new and interesting ones. I too found the 'decorate/renovate/build' scenes a bit 'thicker' and cartoonish, without the delicacy of the original, but the card play and the enjoyment level more than makes up for it. With roughly 50 rounds completed, I have not yet seen the dragon but look forward to it.
The difficulty in completing each round isn't overwhelming, though you may have to play several rounds to complete each level. Personally, I challenge myself to complete all three gold stars on each level before I move on and some of the levels are more difficult than others. Won't go into a lot of detail regarding specific game play or coins, purchases, and so forth as it's already been done, but one thing is certain: you get your money's worth in length of game play with this one.
All around, another great installment of Dreamland that will keep you busy for hours.
Cursed House 7 had plenty of challenges that I had come to expect and love, plus a few new ones to add to the mix. At first, was slightly difficult to figure out these new obstacles, such as the 'electricity' and the goal to hit a certain number of one type of icon or another, but wow... talk about hours and hours of fun. Made it to the end! The icons were not too 'busy' or hard to make out as a few from the earlier games, so it wasn't a strain on the eyes. At first I wasn't so sure I liked this one as much as others of the past, but by Level 5 I had changed my mine. I play games to relax, and while I had to work a bit on this one, it was still a great stress reliever. This has made my favorites list!
