This review is based on playing the trial of the CE and deciding it was worth waiting for the SE (Both in hardcore mode). It seems like the further on the game goes the less logical is the gameplay. The graphics are clear and the game plays smoothly. However, the minigames are easy and after a while playing the game starts to seem like a chore.
Based on the completed free trial (and rapidly completed purchase!) of this sequel to the Witch's Prison episode, I would class this as a very enjoyable adventure/puzzle game. There are apparently no HO scenes and the game play is definitely considerably more challenging than many recent games. The story is built around similar paranormal phenomena investigations as in the first episode and again a lot of your tasks are sorting out the organisation's extremely dodgy maintenance issues. Altogether a delight for the adventure fan and heartily recommended.
Truly a "fun" game - puzzle/ level of challenge not too great but super entertainment for dark winter nights. Best feature possibly is the use of inventory items in the Hidden Object scenes
Based on the completed game in "True Detective " mode, I would class this as an enjoyable yarn with excellent graphics and apt sound track but it is let down by the simplistic puzzles. The HOS are varied and require quite a bit of interaction of different elements. Altogether a worthwhile CE but not for the keen puzzle solver.
This is based on a couple of hours of play played in "expert" mode. A totally enjoyable and challenging puzzle game that never lets up whether within a HOS or in moving on to new locations. Congratulations to the devs ( N.Tri - newcomers?) on coming up with a game that has jumped ahead of the current trend in HOS/puzzle/adventure games.
What a beautiful game! This game (slightly reminiscent of the classic Syberia epics) is a thing of beauty. The puzzles aren't the hardest and the (small number of) HOS attempt to be slightly different by seeking objects by theme. If there is a minor irritation it's in the “Cogglethorpe” voice-over instructions for the minigames. The graphics are rich and clear and the gameplay is flawless. The result is a relaxed and enjoyable gaming experience.
This is the successor to the first "Maestro" game - not too sure if it'll be the sequel or just the second episode! It has the usual polished finish from the ERS devs. There are three skill levels available and the "Hard Mode" which we played makes for a real challenge since no information is given about objects etc - the magnifier icon only identifying a relevancy. The minigames are neither very taxing nor particularly original but do fit pleasantly into the overall gaming experience. The same is true of the HO scenes - not too many and not eye straining.
The latest offering from Boomzap is a let-down after the charming games comprising the Awakening trilogy.
The pros: Beautiful graphics and a quiet, soothing audio track. No technical issues apart from some slightly small hotspots for certain actions. The cons: Puzzles ranging from simplistic to illogical.
This game seems to have all the necessary ingredients to provide an excellent game - in terms of storyline, locations, length of game and beautifully-drawn characters but consistently rehashes the type of puzzles which we saw in the previous series (which were refreshingly different first time round), like identifying pairs of objects. Really good games tend to contain at least one memorable puzzle but this was sadly lacking here.
With the obvious talent available at Boomzap perhaps a complete departure from this sort of fairy tale might be a good idea.
From all the reviews it is obvious that this is a popular and well-constructed game. It has a moderate level of challenge, beautiful graphics and a decent length of bonus chapter. Unfortunately what it also has is an irritating failure to eliminate redundant hotspots. In a game where constant backtracking and searching is called for it would surely have made for a more enjoyable game if such hotspots were removed after they had served their purpose.
This game features nice graphics and a good range of locales. The sound track is quietly unobtrusive. The gameplay was smooth and trouble-free. It is a pleasant gaming experience rather than a challenge. The number of HO scenes in the early part of the game is encouragingly small - these including "interactive" items (some of these are slightly teasing because the scenes will be used again later in the game and not all indicated areas in the earlier visits might result in anything useful). The latter part of the game becomes more HO oriented, unfortunate if this is not your favourite genre!
