No conspiracies, no evil twins, no conniving elves, no kidnapping, no time travel- just an old-fashioned Christmas story that deals with why Christmas can be a difficult time of year for many people. This game is very appropriate for kids and adults (adults, play the puzzles on 'hard'). The graphics are superb-the scenes are a bit busy, but it's done in good taste and doesn't take Christmas to 11 (yep- a Spinal Tap reference for those who know. Merry Christmas lol). The mouth movements match the excellent voice-overs. Even though the story is told as a child's fable, the game can be a challenge, and I had to play the match-three a couple of times and hit the hint button a time or two. Yeah, we've seen some of this game-play a zillion times before but the game actually plays out very well- even though you have to remove a nail with a fork- I've tried this at home...it doesn't work. But all in all, this offering is an absolute Christmas delight with an authentic seasonal vibe that will make you smile and bring back pleasant memories. I'm loving it- Merry Christmas!
...guess again! What a great game, something different for a change: PUZZLE HEAVEN!! No HOPs. If you like escape rooms, you are in Nirvana with this gem. I hate when I can't figure a puzzle- I usually can. Not this time. You definitely need to use the old grey matter with this wonderful game! If puzzles/escape rooms are your thing...Welcome, you have arrived!
It had gotten to the point I had given up on today's games here on BF. The same drivel over and over again. I've been searching out actual adventure games on this platform from the early 2000's because playing these cookie cutter clones was becoming downright depressing. I have all the Halloween Stories. I have to admit, I am really enjoying this. The hand holding: for those of us that prefer casual there is actually some thought involved here as you have to move within the map to see if there is a task required. Bravo- thought! And you toss in Poe and I am there! So, thanks Elephant for making it not so easy- some of those puzzles! Sheesh! So, I am giving this a thumbs up. Exemplary- no, not Halloweeny enough. But still, I am enjoying the thread of Poe's genius throughout this game Happy Halloween, folks!
I recommend this game!

Leave your cookie-cutter games behind- this is a true adventure game! If you miss the games of yesteryear like Myst, Frankenstein, and Syberia, then you've come to the right place! Graphics, atmosphere-fantastic. Difficult puzzling situations to work through, 360 degree movement (better look everywhere!) and the best voice-overs you'll ever hear. On top of all that- this game is historically educational yet quite spooky. Enjoy!!
I purchased this game because I am so sick and tired of the same o'l, same ol' HOG/Adventure games of today. Where are the Beholder games (Beholder is fantastic and hard!- not for wimps) and I pray for another game like My Brother Rabbit (the second game to make me cry in 30 years' worth of adventure gaming- the first to have me weeping was the ending of Syberia). So, now I seek out older games and this is a fantastic series, I bought all of them. Very much fantasy-which I usually avoid-but the game set-up is terrific-I am really enjoying this. Hope you can too!
How wonderful to see stories like this- the great prophet Moses. In a morass of elves and demons, and monsters, and other-worldlies, a delight to see this offering!
I usually avoid games with elves like the plague. But the positive reviews were enough to persuade me to buy this bit of genius. Like "My Brother Rabbit" (which I now adore)- never would I buy a game like this, but the overwhelming positive reviews made it an absolute buy. And I'm so glad I did- it's the game play-outstanding! Not linear! So, even if you find elves and fairies annoying, as I do, I thoroughly enjoyed this game. The storyline was solid, beautiful graphics, but it's the game play- some of the puzzles were really hard! And try to find those fairies- not easy. This game is Aces!
Friendly Fox has always been one of my favorite developers. A few of years ago, when all we really had was Elephant, Eipix, and Domini games monopolizing the world of casual gaming, this Friendly Fox came trotting along and completely raised the bar and changed the gaming paradigm. The Dark City series is, without a doubt, their best effort. In this particular game, they have outdone themselves- if that's possible. The Dark City series takes us all over the world to a specific country's major city during the Victorian/Georgian era (late 1800's-early 1900's). The plot revolves around a particular strange legend associated with that city. What a brilliant idea but it has to be done well. This game, as the other Dark City editions, does not disappoint! The graphics are outstanding, I mean really good! I get really tired of ghost stories, I know they have their place, but the market is glutted with them. What I love about this series is what starts out as a ghost story has a human mystery behind the rouse- LOVE IT!! The Amsterdam details are fantastic- true to the era. Even the dog in the opening sequence is indigenous to the Norway/Netherlands region (Norwegian Elkhound). Keep your eye on the collectibles and morphers: could be one-could be four. The HOPs aren't annoying or frustrating and the puzzles can take time, but I always find them enjoyable. My only beef with this series would be that if you're going to travel the world, the country's citizens should have appropriate accents. This has not been the case with this series- all the characters of the different countries (I think except for London, England) had straight up American accents (ex: Dark City Paris-truly awesome storyline, great graphics, disappointing vocals). That takes away from the games' atmosphere. However, in this game we do get a British accent which at least tells us we're not in Kansas anymore. Enjoy! Highly recommend!
Lifeline is a playable, branching story of survival against all odds! Help Taylor make life or death decisions, and face the consequences together. Or see what happens when you make a different choice.
How many would rather watch TV than read a book? Your imagination is more frightening than any celluloid monster. I love this game and have actually grown attached to Taylor. I care about him. You have to think and make decisions which effect the entire outcome all via a communication system, OUTSTANDING!!
I really didn't think this game would interest me at all (I'm not all about cute and cuddly and avoid games that feature cats like the plague, nothing against cats but don't want them starring in my games) but when you look at the enormous disparity between the ratings- well, I had to check this out. First, let me say the one-star ratings are not deserved and the one-star people just don't get it and I feel badly for them. This is a very, very different game, the puzzles take work in that you have to find the clues to lead to your success; no hand holding here. The graphics are fantastical and whimsical- they represent a loving brother's story created for his sister. And penmom is right about the tissues. In a morass of the same ol' same ol', Artifex Mundi has done a marvelous job of bringing us something totally and completely different...and very touching. Thank you, Artifex Mundi, for this gift.
