Hallowed Legends: Templar ranked high on my list of top 20 games for 2012 and once again, I had hoped that these developers would not disappoint with Ship of Bones but somehow, after having played the demo, I found that it does fall short of earning five stars. The reason being that everything was just so very familiar, including the storyline.
Our story takes us to the city of Erlenbourg that has fallen prey to a dark and mysterious curse. A sinister looking woman in white stalks the streets and takes the souls of the citizens, leaving behind their skeletons to roam the city helpless and confused. With the help of Hamlet, a talking raven, it is now up to us to solve the mystery and end the curse. It just seems that not long ago we also faced a wicked entity that went after the human souls and a city where the dead roamed. I felt a very strong sence of deja vu as I played the game. Still, game features and mechanics are fun and I am quite enjoying the experience of the visuals.
The graphics are exceptional and live actors are used during cut scenes creating a life-like gaming environment. Sound effects and music are also excellent as are the voice-overs. Overall, the game looks sharp and the effects are very well done. I especially love the small details that many game developers overlook like clicking on something and having it move.
Game features three play modes to choose and a map that will allow you to travel to locations of interest. Gamplay is standard HOPA with interactive Hidden Object scenes that are not very challenging. Mini-games are interesting and there is a fun factor to them.
The added bonus are the collectables, 25 goblins to find and there are achievements as well.
While it does pale slightly in comparison to Templar, Ship of Bones does offer great visuals, interesting mini-games and there is Hamlet who helps us along the way. What the game does lack is a challenge gameplay that I expected and the black bar tips offer way too much information which I found slightly annoying. Still I was expecting to be more thrilled and it just did not happen. However, as I own all the Hallowed Legend series, I will definitely add this to my list of CE games but as I said, I am disappointed as this game did not live up to my expectations. You may want to try the demo and perhaps make use of club credits you may have on hand. If however you have't tried out The Templars, by all means, take advantage of the bundle sale today.
I recommend this game!

I probably will be the most unpopular reviewer here by saying that I personally think the game is good, not great, not worth 5 stars and I for one will wait for the SE
A story that is also too familiar: Girl loses fiance, girl goes after fiance, girl battles with supernatural forces and rescues fiance. Game menu offers two play modes to choose from. Graphics are good, clean with 3D animation. Personally I found graphics slightly dated and voice-overs a tad stilted. I actually liked the music but needless to say, the game does look so very familiar which is why I only gave it three stars.
Game features a journal, a map that will transport you along with 35 morphing objects that are too easy to spot. Gameplay is your standard find objects, solve puzzles and play Hidden Object scenes. I liked the HO scenes; they were interactive and clever. Mini-games were far too easy alos very familiar. The game lacked any form of challenge.
I suppose I still year for games that have that WOW factor, like the MCF games that first came out. Games that offered you not only great storylines but game mechanics that had you glued to the computor for hours and sometimes even days. Sacra Terra , while still relatively a good good game, is is unfortuantely highly forgettable. I would rather go back and play my favorite oldies than spend double the money.
Like I said, I will propbably be very unpopular with this review, but in all honesty, I cannot just recommend a game as a CE when I have played better Standard Edition games that were well worth the time and money.
I don't recommend this game.

I know that alot of people will probably disagree with me when I say that this game is truely a mess. A storyline involving fantasy fiction that takes us to the world of Enchantia that is being threatended by the Phoenix Queen who has just escaped 500 years of imprisonment. She is very angry and now seeks a powerful relic that will reinforce her strength. and give her the power to reduce the world to ashes.
The game is a hopeless effort to dazzle us with overbearing sounds and visuals that are all in a disarray. The graphics are blurred and the artwork is really over the top. Game features three play modes and unfortunately you have sparkles unless you play Hard mode which eliminates hints and skips. Voice overs are relatively good and you have a basic tutorial that will speak to you which is new.
The game is a FROG and a warning to all, for those who enjoy looking for miniscule parts hidden in over-crowded scenes, than this will not only challenge your eyes but will cause mild dizziness and slight nausea.
Game features a task list and a mapp (or mystical compass) that will transpot you to areas of interest. There is no journal and basically you wander aimlessly picking up objects and using them inother scenes.
One hour of game time was enough to bring on a mild headache and a reluctance to pursue this torment of a game any further.
The only thing I can to the developers is nice try but perhaps we need to lay off the 'coffee' before we do the artwork. Also need to work on cleaning up the graphics.
Better luck next time but sorry, it's a definite Pass from me.
I don't recommend this game.

From one of my favorite developers, Motor Town has an air of creepiness to it with murkey looking scenes and dark graphics. Our storyline begins with an over zealous journalist who is after a big story involving a recluse inventor of cars. Known to be an eccentric, he frequently referred to cars having souls. As we pursue the story, we find ourselves in an abandoned town and now look for clues as to where our missing inventor is.
An intriguing story line with an edgy feel to it, passable graphics that could have been sharper, mediocre voice overs, great art-work and a good balance of over-crowded interactive HO scenes along with a variety of unique puzzles that offer some mild challenges; What's not to like? I enjoyed the demo and have already puched the buy button using my free game credit. A relatively good SE game that will no doubt occupy me this evening.
I recommend this game!

I loved the first game of this series and am ecstatic that these developers have once again come up with a wonderful story based on Victor Hugo's Hunchback of Notre Dame. Playing the role of Detective, we are summoned to Paris and now must work in secret to solve the mystery of Fleur's abduction during the Festival of Fools. According to Captain Marchant, Supernatural forces are at work and it is up to us to find our vicitm and uncover the secret that surrounds the famous Cathedral of Paris.
We have three game modes to choose from and several achievements to unlock. The only catch here is that in order to get all the achievments, you need to play all three modes which is does give meaning to REPLAY value.
The graphics are sharp, not the best I have seen but still very well don. The artwork is colorful and voice-overs are good with french accents that are not over-exaggerated. Game features a map that not only outlines progress but also allows you to jump. The only thing missing is a journal, but you do collect bits of stories through-out the game.
What really amused me at the very beginning, I thought we were in Paris during the early 1900s. First you are on a train, then you see a carriage, then there is a gramaphone and suddenly you find yourself in front of the museum and there is a car which needs to be unlocked.
Gameplay is your standard HOPA with alot of actions and areas of interest to cover. The HO scenes are heavy on the interaction which makes them interesting. Mini games are interesting and some suprisingly challenging to play which will make many hard-core players happy. There is also the Guardian amulet that is added to your taskbar which you will need to locate the hidden symbols throughout the game.
Having played the demo, it really is a no-brainer on wether this is a game to purchase. Great graphics, interesting story, challenging game play and achievemnts to collect. There is definitely fun to be had here and this game gets 5 stars from me. A great way to spend a cold and wet Sunday afternoon on the Dark Side of Notre Dame.
I recommend this game!

The first thing that really excited me about this game was the opening scene; a horrific looking organ grinder recites the first verse of Poe's The Raven. A very nice touch to a game that comes from one of my favorite developers. Unfortuantely the excitement really ends there and soon I found Tune of Revenge to be yet another standard HOPA with some merits to it. The story begins in the town of Graysand where we take on the role as Detective who has been hired to investigate a tragic incident that had occured thirteen years ago. Upon arrival, we discover that the Mayor was suddenly attacked and set on fire by a blazing phoenix. The culprit responsible is an organ grinder who is selling fortune cards that seal one's fate with death by a supernatural creature. His motive is revenge and it is up to us to solve the mystery and stop the attacks.
After having chosen Advance game mode from the main menu, I was delighted to see that there were absolutely no sparkels anywhere. You can also change your game mode during the game. The graphics are well done, the usual hand drawn scenes and very good art-work. I loved the voice-overs, very well done and well acted out which is refreshing. The music blares out a bit and sounds very familiar. Game features a map which does allow you to travel, unfortuantely there is no journal or diary. You have collectables which include retrieving thirteen cursed cards, finding 10 lost pets and entrapping 9 supernatural creatures. Unfortuantely there are no achievements or trophies and/or morphing objects.
Gameplay is standard HOPA with slightly interactive HO scenes that are junked piled. Mini-games are familiar and not very challenging. There are puzzles to solve and inventory items to collect as you play on. The hint system was extremely helpful, telling you exactively what to do next.
Overall, the game is nice to look at, the organ music does get on your nerve after a while and game play is relatively smooth but not very challenging. I found that the story did draw me in at the beginning but my interest did slowly dwindle as I moved on to the next chapter. It just all seems so familiar, pick up item, use item, play HO scene, solve a mini-game and move on. HOPA games like these are a dime a dozen, same game mechanics, different scenery and it does beg the question, is it worth the CE price? In my honest opinion, I would rather wait for the SE version and do without finding out the organ grinder's fate. In my case, the game is just too familiar and lacks that certain WOW factor. I would prefer a more challenging gaming experience with more game features than just a few collectables. I liked it but just did not love it, despite having one of my favorite poems being recited at the very beginning.
I recommend this game!

You can always tell when a game is dated by the type of cellphone they use. First, who calls it a cellphone these days? Our story begins with our heroine who during a skiing holiday, suddenly loses here travelling companion and best friend, Amy. Soon she learns that Amy is injured and is hiding at a mansion on top of a mountain. What began as a fun vacation soon turns to a nightmare as you go after Amy and find yourself caught up in a 200 year old mystery.
The graphics are sharp and well done. You have the option to lighten your screen and there are two play modes to choose from. I soon found out that there are sparkles in both modes and you do get a click penalty during the HO scenes.. The voice-overs are terrible, badly acted and very slow. Game features a journal and a task list and a hint system which wasn't very helpful.
This is yor standard HOPA with emphass on the adventure. There are interactive HO scenes and some where you need to match them with a silohette which I really do not like. The Adventure part is somewhat challenging and you do need to use your logic at times. As there is no map, prepare for a lot of backtracking. The mini-games are interesting but come with rather vague instructions. Although the game is somewhat dated, it does offer some interesting and challenging moments along with a storyline that I found to be intriguing. What did put me off was the pace of the game, it runs very slowly at times and there is alot of backtracking to do. You end up in a scene where you need to click on everything because you really have no idea what you are looking for. Once you find an item, you then need to figure out where to use it. I would give this game a four star but like I said, its slow and definitely rough around the edges. However I do recommend this for those who enjoy the challenge and like adventure. I will defintely use a credit on this adventure mainly because I really want to find out what the mystery is.
I recommend this game!

Remembering how much I enjoyed the Otherworld: Spring of Shadows, this sequel takes up where we left off, once again protecting young Fiona from the evil Fey know as the Shade. Our adventure continues as we search for Fiona's missing Teacher who seems to hold the answers as to how to stop Shade from taking over the world with his dark Magic.
At first I found the graphics to be a bit off, much like illustrations from an old fairytale book. I remember that the graphics from the first game to be much better than the ones I encountered here. As the game continued, graphics got better and I do love the artwork in some of the scenes. The voice-overs are very well done as is the music and ambient sounds that do enhance the overall game experience.
Gameplay includes three play modes and there are a list of achievements as well as collectables. There is a journal that also outlines tasks as well as a map that will allow you to travel to locations.
An entertaining HOPA with great puzzles and interesting mini-games that do require some elbow grease. HO scenes are interactive and items easy to find. Overall, an enchanting story with entertaining gameplay that I am sure will please everyone. I found myself totally emersed into the story and am a big fan of fairytales and fantasy. Will be enjoying a quiet Sunday afternoon with this one.
I recommend this game!

I love this series and although it played out as a standard game of Hidden Object with puzzles and adventure, the music in the opening scene enthralled me to no end.
The mystery connected to the virtuoso known as the Great Master continues, and this time our detective is hired by the Vienna Music Academy to investigate the disappearance of two of its prize students and their teacher. Eary on in the game we realise the the Master is behind this and now we must dance to his music and rescue our missing victims.
There are three modes of gameplay and I find that by playing hard mode, the game offers a more challenging experience with no sparkles, no hints and not black-bar tips.
The Graphics are beautiful as always with these developers who have made this paticular look their signature tradmark. Stunning artwork and great ambient sounds that enhance the gaming experience. The music is haunting when played and I love the melody of the violin in the opening scene.
A very well developed HOPA with HO scenes that are surprisingly more complex than the usual interactive gameplay that we are accustomed to. There are outlines of items to collect and use in order to find your bonus item. Not too easy and not too hard to play out, refreshing change that I enjoyed immensly. The mini-games that I have come across were far too easy and wish for a bit more challenge in that department. There are collectables whereby you need to collect musical instruments hidden throughout the game. Also once you have located the Maestro's viloin in the first chapter, its music will help you to disperse the shadows that you will come across during your adventure.
It isnt a very challenging game but does have its moments. I enjoyed the sounds, the visuals and am a fan of the series. Therefore it is a definite buy for me. I look forward to completeing the game and from what I can see in the main menu, there is an orchestra of the dead that need their instruments so that they can play.
I recommend this game!

One of my favorite games from these developers is Arizona Rose and the Priates's Riddles, a puzzle game that I play often. This time they introduce another Pirate story that comes to us as a cardgame of Solitaire. Game mechanics involve playing high and low cards and earning gold coins. Graphics are cartoon style, music a bit too much and there are achievements to collect.
Our story is about a honorably discharged sea captain who falls in love with the Duke's Daughter. He then is blamed for her dissapearance and jailed. Having escaped with the help of his former crew, he must now resort to becoming a Pirate and set sail across the seven seas searching for his true love.
We follow his story as each page of his diary is written and with each level of solitaire, we need to meet the goals in order to earn enough coins to help reinforce our ship, build temporary quarters and purchase power-ups. Each level progress and offers challenges and obstacles like locked or frozen cards that need to be played twice. The goals with each level also become more difficult as you need to get enough gold coins or streaks in order to pass. Unfortunately there is no replay button.
The hour demo went by very fast and I found myself immersed in the game. Although it isn't as stylish and as fun as Fairway, which is a favorite amongst Solitaire fans, it is passable and possibly worth a credit to buy. Very simplistic in style and form but does offer you challenging rounds of solitaire.
I recommend this game!
