Secrets of the Dark is back with its third nstallment and this time we are a seasoned detective who is sought out by a young heiress who finds her estate haunted by one of the Rossolimo Brothers. Upon opening the crypt, we let loose the spirit who has plans th unleash a darkness into the world.
Another very entertaining HOPA game with sharp graphics, voice-overs,and a journal that records our adventure. What really makes this game entertaining is the change from the present to the past and the Hidden object scenes. With a click of a light switch, your scene is transformed from light to dark and puzzles must be solved on both sides.
The Hidden Object scenes are the highlight of this game, some that are straight forward and some that require you to place items back into the scene. I actually find those much more enjoyable. Mini-games are well composed and some offer a certain degree of challenge to solve.
Overalll the game is adventurous, entertaining and at times midly challenging. With no map, there is some backtracking but not too much that you lose track of where to go.
Had there been some extras like morphing objects and collectables which are favorites of mine, I would have definitely given this game 5 stars. The story does hold interest but I personally think the first game was far better. Still, an entertaining game with great Hidden Object scenes that are beautifully done.
Wether to purchase the CE version or wait is really up to you and your budget. I find that as the month is nearly up, I would rather hold on to my cash for something a little more complex. I personally will wait for the Standard Edition on this one. However, a very good game, and had there been some extras, it would have been a buy for me. On the other hand, I do wish that other developers take this game as an example and jump on board with creating more interesting HO scenes. I loved the one where you have to assemble items within the scene. Very well done.
I recommend this game!

Vampires: Todd & Jessica's Story
Explore an extraordinary and touching love story that will touch your heart and blow your mind!
I really tried to like this game but I really have to ask, can a game get anymore slower? I love Vampire tales but this one just did not grab me.
Our storyline begins with a marriage proposal and a kidnapping. Poor Todd, a creature of the night who falls in love with Jessica. Its too bad that he is a vampire and she is human. Wanting to lead a normal life, Todd defies his true nature and suddenly finds himself a prisoner of Zack, another Vampire who is threatening to turn the lovely Jessica and save Todd's immortal soul.
I loved the music, a beautiful orchestrated piece with piano and violin, a haunting melody that unfortunately made my eyelids droopy and made the game even more slow. No voice-overs, two modes of gameplay and a jornal is available. There is no map but there are arrows that will indicate where you can travel to. The hint button is a bit off whereby you get slashes or circles that indicate where an item is.
A HOPA game with graphics that are sharp but look very dated. Emphasis is on Hidden Object scenes that are junk piled. The rest of the time, you have locations that take forever to get to, alot of inventory items to find and some even need to be combined.
Actually this game could have been interesting but unfortunately I got bored with the simple mini-games,too many HO scenes and very slow movement. By the time the demo ended, I was ready to turn in. I think I will pass.
At last, something to write home about. I absolutely love this game. Hardcore players will have a blast with this. I chose the more difficult level to play and Lo and Behold, I had a devil of a time trying to figure out my way out of the coffin. Took me a while to figure it out but the game had me at Hello!
Great graphics, good music and voice overs. Dont let the simplicity of the game fool you, while there is no map, no extra features, merely a journal and a hint button, the game offers challenging adventure gameplay along with HO scenes that are not interactive. Puzzles are on the challenging side and all in all, a game where a little more brain power is required. Although the black bar tips do help out, there is a fun aspect to figuring out what to do.
As for the storyline, taking on the role of an alchemist, we must battle wits with a rogue wizard who is cursing everything that comes his way.
I am keeping this short a simple, a definite buy for me and KUDOS to the developers for this simple but very entertaining game.
One of my favorite novels is Perfume and I love that this story slightly resembles it. A Serial Killer is on the loose in Paris and he targets beautiful women. His weapon of choice is a fatal perfume that apparently dehydrates the human body, leaving behind a withered corpse. As a hired Detective, it is our role to catch this madman and find the missing daughter of our benefactor. We soon find ourselves emersed in a very entertaining Hidden Object Puzzle and Adventure Game that offers eye-pleasing graphics, beautiful musical score and voice-overs along with three play modes to choose from. You also have the option to turn on your interactive map that does allow you to jump to areas of interest.
Extras also include collectables that were easy to find but then got trickier as you moved on. There are achievements that are game oriented, so not very challenging and there is the scent collector.
An engaging storyline, very good graphics that could have been sharper but it seems that the washed out look is becoming somewhat fashionable, great game mechanics, game features that are fun. A very well rounded game that earnes s stars from me and has a very pleasing smell to it. (I just couldn't resist)
Once upon a time there was AZADA, a series of brilliant games developed by BFG Studios. Enthralling storyline with gorgeous graphics, entertaining adventure gameplay and challenging puzzles and mini-games that earned awards of being a favorite amongst gamers. With a new developer at the helm, (actually a familliar developer), Azada has gone through drastic changes in format and style which has left me to ponder over an old saying, if it is not broken, dont fix it!
Needless to say, Azada has returned with Titus, our old friend who once again needs our help to stop the evil Panoptes and retrieve the precious elements that he has stolen. Alas, we are not alone on our quest, we have a travelling companion who is a creature of some sort, which actually you get to design, name and take with you on your travels. What he actually does is a mystery to me, but he pops up occassionally with instructions and comments.
As always with these developers, you have the signature trade-mark graphics and voice-overs. Slightly washed out with pastel colors. Game features three play modes and a very crowded menu that shows us there are extra HO and Mini-games to play. We have your standard HOPA gameplay with extras like an interactive map that will allow you to travel to areas of interest. The one thing that really annoyed me is that it kept asking me wether I was sure I wanted to go to a location I chose. You have a journal that will also provide you with a list of tasks. You have a magic lens that will glow when there is something mystical to pick up. You have mystical pets that you come across and they will be added to your book of Azada pets. As for collectables, you have coins that you collect that will buy some odd looking outfits for your pet/sidekick that still I have yet to name.
Once again you have everything but the kitchen sink yet still, it does not come close to the captivating gameplay that was available in the original AZADA games. Azada 4 is a game that offers slight amusement at times, constant diversions with messages popping up when you come across a pet or a coin or a mystical area. What it does NOT offer is a challenging gameplay. Once again these devlopers have managed to take a brilliant concept and turn it into one of their usual HOPA games with easy puzzles and very easy mni-games. I am disappointed but nevertheless, many gamers will enjoy this installment for what it is. Light, amusing, packed with extras. However, I miss the original AZADA games and no matter how much I do enjoy some of these developer's games, I still wish they had stuck to the original format. As far as HOPA games are concerend, this game does not stand out, it really is the same game that we come to expect from these developers, but with a different story and a few quirky extras. Is it worth a CE price tag? In my opinion, if you have not played any of the original AZADA games, then please, do go back and spend your money on them. Still, Azada 4 does have merits and does offer you entertainment. I will recommend it to fans of these developers; I on the other hand will wait for something new to pop up and take this time to go back and replay the orignal Azada Adventure.
A fantasy Fiction that takes place in a kingdom ruled by an evil sorcerer, Zarar who has taken possession of Prince Mongo. The King is missing and it is up to our heroic princess to save the day. I actually liked the story and although the game lacks sophistication, the graphics are sharp and there is minimal use of voice-overs with hardly any music in the backgroun expcept for some ambient sounds..
Game features only two play modes to choose from. There is no journal and no map. Tasks are outlined and the hint button will offer directions or when used inside the HO scenes, you have images. A simple Hidden Object with puzzles and adventure game that has an appeal to it. I found the HO scenes easy to do, no interaction and some of the items were very cleverly hidden. This game will definitely appeal to fans of puzzles, some very easy while others required painstaking patience. There is alot of items to pick up and use and alot of mini-games to play.
Overall, I found the game charming and enjoyable. I actually found myself immersed in the gameplay. No fuss but does definitely offer entertainment. Dont be fooled by the simplicity, there is a certain amount of challenge involved which is why I found myself enjoying the gameplay as I played on. A nice Standard Edition game that actually has an interesting story line that I found amusing. A simple game, somewhat awkward at times but does have its moments. I myself will be spending one of my Free Game credits on this one.
As always, these developers always manage to come up with great stories. This time we are investigating the murder of the handsome Hugo who was stabbed to death and later blown up at his office. With our new assistant, Aidan, and a fennc fox who persitently tags along, we begin our case by searching for clues and keeping a journal that logs our suspects and possible motives.
Once the game is finnished downloading, I noticed the very crowded menu. There are options that include three game modes that can be changed during gameplay, there are extras that include bonus games, there are trophies to collect, there is a Trivia section, mini-games and Hidden objects scenes to re-play. I had a hard time finding the play button.
The graphics are good ,along with voice-overs and music, all composed in a style that has become a familiar trademark for these developers. Game Mechanics are basic HOPA gameplay, with emphasis on adventure. I only came across one HO scene during the first 50 minutes of the game. It was junk-piled and slightly interactive. Mini-games are not very challenging but there is a certain element of fun to them.
By now we have all come to be so familiar with these developers. They are consistent in the style and look of the game. Whilst stories do change, game mechanics remain the same. However, with this third installment of Grim Facade, they have added the extras that make gameplay a little more interesting like collecting coins that will be needed at the end, collecting fans for extra hints and earning trophies. Love them or merely like them, these developers always do deliver high quality games that do at times promise to be entertaining. What they do lack is the element of challenging game play, but then you can always play hard-core mode and disable your black-bar tips. I am all for finding out who is the culprit and I am very curious to check out the Trivia section once the game has been purchased (sneaky of them). Therefore, I will go out of my way and buy this game at this price and recommend it as a very good and entertaining CE game.
So we have inherited this really strange mansion, hence the name of the place. My brother is trapped in a cage and its up to me to rescue him while solving the mystery behind the house.
What we have here is a Hidden Object Adventure game with a variety of puzzles and HO scenes to play. The graphics are good, with stop-motion used duringthe cut-scene, Live actor is used and so far I have only heard him speak. I have yet to meet anyone else during the first hour of gameplay. There are interesting details that I enjoyed like clicking on the gramophone and having it play. The music is very subtel, almost difficult to make out and you have an eerie ambient sound that really allows for a spooky atmosphere.
There are two play modes to choose from and unfortunately you do have sparkles for HO scenes. The one thing that I did find extremely annoying was that the task list popped up continuously and there were too many helpful hints given asto what action was required. There should have been an option to turn this off.
I absolutely love the hidden object scenes; they are very interactive and fun to play. Some items were a bit miniscule and difficult to spot but I did enjoy having to put together some items within the scenes. Puzzles are interesting and some even posed a slight challenge. Instructions were a bit vague but nothing that made me pull my hair out.
Overall, a very good standard edition game with an interesting story, clear graphics, interesting puzzles and adventurous hidden object scenes. What's not to like. After the first hour, I was so caught up inthe game that I hadn't noticed how fast the time went by. This tells me that the game is engaging and has definitely got my vote. Strangstone is a winner!
Once again I am forced to be amongst the less popular reveiwers for today. I just cannot full heartedly give this game 5 stars and sadly, I feel let down with the third installment of the Keepers Series. Either the story did not grab me or the graphics or the game mechanics. Perhaps all three; the game just did not entice me. I will try not to be too harsh but I cannot honestly allocate anything more than three stars on this one. It wasnt bad but it just wasnt great. It really falls in the middle of being midly interesting and somewhat entertaining.
Our story takes us to Seville and evryone seems to be speaking with a very fake spanish accent. Now that we have established ourselves as being a member of the Order, we must help Carmen who has in her possession a keepsake that can possibly end the world if fallen into the wrong hands.
Graphics were good, not outstanding, just good. Cutscenes were blurry and I really did not paticularily enjoy the music.
Gameplay includes three modes to choose from and hardcores will enjoy playing without any sparkles, hints or skips. You also get a misclick penalty while palying Hidden object scenes. Game features a journal and a map that will allow you to travel but does not indicate any tasks or areas of interest.
Game mechanics is your standard Hidden Objects, Puzzles and Adventure (HOPA) where HO scenes are crowded and there is some interaction involved. The mini-games were way too easy and during the one hour of gameplay, I only came across two.
Developers were wise to add achievements and 35 morphing objects that were so obvious which makes this game a bit more interesting. However finding the morphing objects adds no challenge whatsoever and we could have done well without them. Game lacks challenge and I just want blown over by the story itself.
Personally I think this could have been a great Standard Edition game but just does not quite make the cut as being a Collector's edition. I would have given it a four star but that would be misleading about just how I feel about the game.
My honest recommendation which no doubt will not be popular is to either take advantage of any credits, rewards or bundle sales on this game or wait it out for the Standard Edition to come out. The Three Sisters will have to wait a bit longer for me to tackle them. Buenos Dias and Adios.
Before I begin, a quick hello to jquick from NC. I agree, the time zone makes it hard for everyone to write reviews at the same time. I have to compete with Australia and the Far East; nevertheless, I do look forward to reading your reviews.
I vaguely recall having played Silent Scream: The Dancer which tells me that it did not leave an impression on me. After having played the demo for The Bride, I can safely say that this suffer the same outcome.
The storyline, while having some spooky elements in it, is somewhat familiar and predictable. Needless to say, the ghostly child that pops up quite unexpectedly does provide mild spooky entertainment. On her wedding day, what was suppose to be a perfect day of pure bliss suddenly takes an unusual turn when Jessica finds herself trapped in a car and her groom missing. Well we all know what happens next and we soon find ourselves playing one Hidden Object scene after another while we click away to pick up some inventory items and play some mini-games along the way.
I personally did not like the graphics, compared to what we see, this game looks old and rather awkward. There are only two playmodes to choose and the harder mode offers no sparkles, no hints and no skip option. Still, gameplay was relatively easy.
Game features a journal and that really is about it. This game should be catagorised as a HOG where you have a series of Hidden Object scenes, back to back which are played more than once and are mildy interactive. There is a mild adventure play that involves basically clicking away to locate your inventory items and some are combined when needed.
Although not very challenging, gameplay doesoffer some interesting moments and I found that the story was really the driving force. I am somewhat interested to learn what happened to Jonathan and what is up with the child. As there is a sale on club credits today, I will take advantage of this. HOG fans will no doubt enjoy this game and beginners will enjoy the mild adventure play. Like the first Silent Scream, this will offer a couple of hours of mild entertainment and like its predessesor, will soon belong to a list of games forgotten .
