You know the WOW factor that I have mentioned on occasion, that one thing that seperates a game from the others? Mayan Prophecies certainly has it and having bought the CE Version, I can say that it was truely an awsome game that was not onlşy entertaining but also brought all kinds of different challenges that was well worth the value of a CE price tag. For those who opted out, this game is definitely well worth a rethink on buying the CE version. However the SE is just as good and you wont lose much without the extra bonus game. Our story is an adventure that begins onboard an ancient Spanish Galleon that has been lost in a time and is carrying a mysterious and sinister cargo that hold the secrets to the Mayan Prophecy. We assume the role of a Coast Guard on a misssion that has suddenly gone bad; a fugitive poacher has excaped from our custody and has dissapeared along with our partner. To make things worse, our boat is sinking and we have no choice but to board a mysterious ship that has come out of the fog. We soon find ourselves surrounded by Mayan artifacts that hold a dark secret regarding the prophecy. We begin our mission searching for our partner but soon discover that there are others on board. This game has so much to offer in way of game features. To start off with, It delivers brilliant graphics along with fantastic visual and sound effects. Game options include three difficulty modes that you can also cutomize as well as change during gameplay which is a feature that I wish everyone would adopt. I love customized settings. It is a challenging HOPA with interactive HO scenes and unique mini-games. There is also an option to play Mahjong tiles instead of playing the HO scenes. There is an interactive map that will teleport you to locations along with a journal. There is alot going on in this game which include collecting pieces of an artifact that when assembled will recount the tale behind the Mayan Mystery. There is also the Mayan Calender which requires you to find all the missing pieces in order to free trapped souls. There are 44 morphing objects onboard as well as 32 hummingbirds that are hidden inside the HO scenes. It has been a while since I have come across a game that offered so much; kudos to the developers for this truely awesome game which certainly has made my list of top 10 games for 2012.
I recommend this game!

A deserted town, a mysterious sea monster and two missing archeologists all add up to a fairly entertaining game by the developers who once brought us the Lockwood Manor story, a personal favorite of mine. Personally I think the graphics have improved and I really like this style of artwork.
There are ambient sounds like rain, sea and gulls which I think always enhances the overall atmosphere of the game. As for voice-overs, there was the introdution scene and I have yet to hear anyone talk during the demo trial. I expect we will run across someone else during the game. As always there are three play modes to chooses from and unfortuately I saw that there was still some odd sparkles in the advance mode. I will have to play the hardcore mode which means no hints or skips. You have excellent game features like a journal, a map which you can use to teleport and also collectables that are sea turtles that you pick up along the way. There are also achievements to earn which always adds to replay value. Gameplay is your standard HOPA with HO scenes that are interactive and mini-games that vary in idfficulty but are nothing outstanding. Overall, I found the gameplay fairly easy and depending what mode you play, it really wasn't much of a challenge. However, I still enjoyed the overall gaming experience, the story has a mystery to uncover and I do like the features which means that it is a definite buy for me. I realise that lately CE games are alot alike and it is rare to find that game that has that WOW factor. This one comes close but does not actually hit the mark for a Great game. However as it is the first of the month and I do have change to spare, I will be definitely be getting this one to add to my collection.
I recommend this game!

Match Three Games come in all variations and some are great for zoning out and some present you with challenging gameplay. This paticular game is somewhere between the two. There really isn't much to the story; you are trapped in a house with a series of locked doors with deadbolts that need to be openned. Each level will unlock a deadbolt and after several games, your door opens up giving way to yet another locked door. Graphics do not get high points from me; they are very simple with no ambient sounds, no animations or voice-overs and the music is on a constant loop. There isnt any thing intersting to see other than a series of locked doors and the background is covered by the gameboards. Nothing remotely scary about this game which is a major disappointment on Halloween. You have two play options; timed or relaxed mode and gameplay is a swap three tiles of the same kind only. The one thing I did like about the game was that your icons are large so there is no squinting and game play moves fast. Each level comes with different challenges such as breaking walls with exploding bombs, collecting coins and one of my favorite was setting all torches on fire. Every door brings on new obstacles and offers a more challenging gameplay as you progress. There are power-ups to get when you match your jewels and that really is about it. No building anything, no achievement or trophies and no scores. This is really a very basic Match 3 game that may just offer some interesting boards to play. I found some a bit tricky at first, and if you are playing relaxed mode, the game does became a bit tedious after a while. I am not sure how many levels there are untill all the doors are unlocked and I assume once they are all open, you are free to leave the manor. I expect that many will find this game rather dull and may prefer the timed mode to add some sort of challenge to the game. There is not much of a halloween theme here and personally I completed three levels within the hour trial and had my fill of the game. Unlocking a series of deadbolts just did not excite me at all and I guess I am doomed to remain in this house forever.
I don't recommend this game.

Sometimes underwater adventures can be murkey and bland but to my delight, I found this story appealing and the graphics were very well done. Once again we are in search of our fiance who has disappeared during one of his underwater expedition. I am also noticing a trend here where game developers favor the woman as the hero of the story who ventures out to rescue the man. Once again, our strong willed heroine who is convinced her fiance is alive dives into the dark stormy waters and finds an underwater city that appears abandoned. Suddenly she is trapped and begins to follow the clues that tell her that Jacque is still alive. However, she is not alone, there is a sinister black hooded figure with glowing eyes who seems to be detering her from her quest. Abyss: The Wraiths of Eden is a very well designed HOPA that favors adventure gameplay. There are three playmodes to choose from and I was a bit disappointed that there was still a bit too much handholding in Advance play. I wish devlelopers would get onboard on customizing game settings which some games offer. The graphics are sharp and I do love the hand-drawn artwork. There are voice-overs but sadly not much in sound effects and music. Gameplay is mostly adventure with few HO scenes that are interactive. You also have a choice of playign dominoes insead of searching for items. The puzzles vary in challenge, most were no-brainers but had a certain degree of fun factor to them. You have a journal that offers you a list of objectives and there is a map with progress indicators. The game also has achievements which is a nice touch to the game. There is also a bonus CHapter after having completed the main game. Obviously this was meant to be issues as a CE and we have been given a treat here. Gameplay runs smoothly and I sense that there is more to this underwater city than meets the eye. I am off not to dive into this game (Sorry could not resist) and will come up for air once I have solved this mystery.
I recommend this game!

They say that Hades hath no fury than a woman scorned and it seems that our handsome Prince forgot to mention that he was once upon a time involved with the Raven Queen, who incidently is hot looking, who can blame him?On her wedding day, Thumbalina loses her Prince and now must embark on an adventure to save him from the clutches of the Queen. This is a beautiful HOPA designed by Elephant games who have never disapointed me in the past. I loved the graphics, the majestic colors, the artwork and voice-overs. There are three play modes to choose from and a map which will transport you to any location. You also have achievements and butterflies to collect during your journey which always adds an extra element of challenge to any game. The HO scenes are interactive and mini-games are uniquely designed and relevant to the story at hand. The game plays like a fine-tuned adventure and I especially loved the scene where you needed to change the seasons in order to complete your task. Thumbalina is not alone and her companion is a magic Mirror who not only has a sense of humor but acts as a guide and hint provider. I actually bought the game without even playing the demo only because I really do love these developers. Kudos to them for yet another beautiful game with all the bells and whistles that a CE deserves. BFG has not disappointed us this week-end with this magical fairytale which I am confident everyone will enjoy.

I love the Dark Parables series, each game designed almost flawlessly with stunning graphics, fascinating storylines and intricate game mechanics. Most importantly, all of their games had the fun factor which gives them re-play value. Unfortunately The Red Ridinghood Sisters fell short in my expectations and I opted out from buying the CE version when it first came out. In addition, reading from other players who had completed the original CE version, most complained about the short gameplay. Although my reasons are totally biased, it does not prevent me from highly recommending the game to others. Everyone has a pet peeve and unfortuately one thing that I find disturbing in any form of entertainment is the killing of animals. Enough said, I continue to give this game high marks for the stunning graphics, beautiful artwork and interesting game features. My favorite of the entire series is still The Snow Queen and The Red Riding Hood Sisters is just as visually breathtaking and is equally fun to play. The storyline is unusual whereby you as the detective are asked to rescue and help the Order of the Red Riding Hood Sisters defeat the Queen of the Wolves. It is a FROG that also offers adventure and puzzles. Game features include voice-overs, three play modes, a map that is not interactive and a task list. Game mechanics include Fragmented HO scenes that are not interactive along with mini-games that were easy to play. There are morphing objects to find so that your hints will refill faster and you also need to collect puzzle pieces in order to gain access to the parables. As I said, a high quality game that will please many with the exception of myself. I do recommend the SE version to those who passed up on the CE.
I recommend this game!

Once ranking high on my list of favorite developers, ERS have become somewhat oblivious to users' complaints and continue to design games that in my opinion are over-rated. In the beginning, their games thrilled me to no end with their stunning graphics, strong plot and storyline embelished with intricate gameplay. However recently, I am witnessing a lackluster performance on their part and somewhat dismayed at the fact that some of their games like this paticular one are being issued as CE without merit. Twighlight Phenomena is a game that plays like a mediocre adventure with a bizzarre stroyline that begins in an old mansion where previous tennants have literally lost their heads. As a new tenant, you relish the thought of living in a stately home away from the city. However as soon as you sign a lease, you find yourself in a mystery involving a giant Monkey, a holgram cat and meet up with several talking heads that require your help. It then dawns on you that a mad doctor is behind this and now you are to be his next experiment. Taking advantage of today's sale and in need of three extra credits before the month's end, I decided to purchase this game despite my lack of enthusiam upon watching the opening cut-scene. Game options offer three play modes to chooses from and there are 12 chapters in the SG along with a bonus chapter; Extras include mini-games to play at the finish and short videos to watch. The visuals are made up of washed out graphics that have ecome sort of a constant with ERS of late and unfortunately theycontinue throughout the game. There is little use of Voice-overs and the music is on a constant loop which I found annoying after a while. There are no HO scenes and your adventure consists of locating inventory tools and playing mini-games. You have a notebook and a hologram cat that will aid you when something needs to be scared off or retrieved. There is no map and the hint/Skip button recharges at a very slow pace, even when playing casual mode; thankfully there is the option of switching playmodes during the game. There are no extras such as collectables or morphing objects which might have added a fun factor to the overall gameplay. Mini-games were plenty, some ridiculously easy to accomplish while some were just frustrating such as the four monkey's in the beginning. I found myself going through the movements and it became difficult to immerse myself into the story. As today, BFG is offering a sale for a time limit, I will recommend this game for those who are new to the adventure genre and for those who like me, can use the extra three credits. Alas it has been a dismal week for games and unfortunately today we get yet again another mediocre Adventure that fails to make your head spin.
I recommend this game!

A game to play if you have nothing better to do on Halloween night. There really isn't anything spooky about this game; no scary graphics, no sound effects and the meditation music in the backgroun was a bit too much after a while. Its simplicity in design and style makes the game look dated with the 2D graphics in a comic strip form. The music was really off-putting and my eyelids began to feel heavy while my brain began to shut down. After 35 minutes of gameplay, matching tiles became even more challenging than the actual gameplay. I was ready to pack it in as it became strenuous on my tired eyes. Game features include 120 levels with various difficulty in each level. Each level have goals that you need to achieve and you earn points and XPs in order to Increase your rating as well as earn a variey of trophies. You can also re-play each level and there is the customary shuffle or undo a move button. On each level your goal is to remove gold tiles, complete it in a certain time limit and get a certain amount of points. As the game progresses, so does the level of difficulty making the gamplay even more challenging. The game just did not excite me I found the entire experience rather tedious. I will pass and hope that something more exciting will be up for grabs on Halloween.
I don't recommend this game.

This is my very first logic/puzzle that I have played so my review is completely baised. I have no idea what these games are like and I have never been a fan of games where your brain starts to hurt after a while. Feeling rather whimsical this morning, I was intrigued at the the game description and decided to download it just to see what the hype was all about with regard to puzzles/logic games. There wasn't much of a story to start off with and from what I can tell of the opening cutscene, a group of very cute armadillos are being invaded by a constuction company and they are out to stop them. I loved the crisp 3D graphics even if they are outdated and I especially loved the cute little 'dillos. All of them just standing around and waiting for me to play my first move on what appeared to be a chess board with colored X marks on them. After having read the instructions, I felt stupid because I was still clueless as to how the game was played. Nevertheless I decided to continue onward and proceeded to play the first level. After several attempts and a series of trial and error (thank God there was a re-play button), the fog began to lift and I had that amazing AH AH moment. I actually got this game! I understood the logic and much to my surprise, I was actually enjoying myself. After having played several rounds and feeling enormously clever about the whole thing, I decided that perhaps I wasn't as stupid as I thought I was. That feeling lasted only a few minutes, that is until I got to level 6. I was totally misled by the simplicity behind the game mechanics and it wasn't until I got through the first five boards that I realised that this wasn't as easy as it appeared and much to my chargrain, I wasn't as clever as I thought I was. Gradually after 6 failed attempts at level 6, my level of frustration began to peak at which I then decided: NOPE, I was right, I am just not one for logic and strategy games. However, I am not one to give up so easily and I am all for trying something new, expanding your horizions and what not. SOooo I will buy this game and if it takes me all night, I will attempt to at least finish level 6 and get those dastardly 'dillos in their right place! So as it is written in the game, the question remains, is it a nah or a yah? I suppose those who are use to these type of games are rolling their eyes and thinking what an absolutely idiot I am for not understanding this game in the first place. The only thing I can say, dont take my word for it and do try the demo.
I recommend this game!

Lately I have been getting a bit tired of the standard HOPA game mechanics and once in a while I really need to get my hands on a more adventurous game where it isnt all about the HO scenes and picking up inventory items. Botanica is a refreshing break and I really have been enjoying myself with this. As always, these developers do manage to bring us a great story along with stunning graphics, great musical soundtracks and an entertaining gaming experience. Our story begins with the disappearance of our heroine's father who went missing on an expedition. His reputation of being crazy had to do with his outlandish theories and experiments. After 20 following his disappearance, his daughter, now a reputable Botanist suddenly finds herself trapped in an alien world full of large and extraordinary flora and fauna. With the help of a fellow trapped scientist who by the way is a tall and very handsome gentleman, they embark on a mission that hopefully will take them back home. The Graphics are indeed stunning and the colors vibrant. There are voice-overs and environmental sounds, enhanced with a beautiful soundtrack that create a world where visuals are literally out of this world. I really did love all the different floras and faunas while exploring each scene. Game features include 3 modes of difficulty, an interactive map which you can use to transport yourself, and a computor pad (which I have to say say it is about time we use some electronics for a change) that not only keeps your notes but also has a task list as well as a botanist encyclpedia. You also have a botanist kit where you will be carrying out some experiments on some plants that you do find. There are intersting characters that you do meet on this journey and there are collectables which are not as easy to locate and a list of achievements to accomplish. Game mechanics is heavy on adventure with many puzzles and mini-games to play. There are HO scenes that cross your path that differ from what we ahve scene. They are highly interactive whereby you need to accomplish taks to retrieve an item. Botanica is not your average HOPA with HO scenes one after another. It does move at a slow pace at times while you explore each scene to figure out your puzzles. Min-games that I have come across were not very challenging but there was definitly a fun factor to them. Botanic is a game after my own heart and I really enjoyed my demo trial. I look forward to adventure game and explore this alian planet while helping our two protagonist to get back to their own world. Kudos to BoomZap who did after all bring us the Awakewakening Series that rank high on my list of favorite games.
I recommend this game!
