One night after having closed a case a stranger is knocking loudly at your door. You answer and discover a helpless baby abandoned on your doorstep. Instead of calling the police, you decided to follow after the stranger, and find yourself drawn into a mystery adventure that begins at the doorsteps of a castle-like mansion. Your companions are a baby and a mechanical owl called Gears who helps you retrieve hard to reach objects. Off you go into the dark to find the Beauty within, whatever that may be.
A brilliant game with georgous graphics and artwork, very good animation and voice-overs, good atmospheric music that really sets the mood, customized settings if you prefer and great game mechanics. The look of the game is sharp and very well stylized which tells me that the developers have raised the bar a bit with this one.
To begin with, the developers have brought something new to the table which makes this game even more interesting. I loved the puzzles within the puzzles, the fragmented HO scenes whereby you need to locate objects and find pieces hidden within. All interactive and fun to play.
After having selected hardcore level, I am happy to say that there were no hints or sparkles or indicators on the map which made for a challenging game. I did enjoy the twists and turns that the game offers, intricate puzzles within puzzles. Fragmented HO scenes that pop up and HO scenes that are both interactive and fragmented and some inventory objects that need to be combined. Sounds alot? actually all very well spaced out so that you can play at ease and enjoy the scenery as well.
You also have extras like your main game followed by a bonus game and extra hidden chapters. First you have have your collectables, mystical roses hidden throughout the game that make up a rose mural. You also have morphing objects which I discovered existed only after having bought the game. Spoil Alert: they pop up in HO scenes as well. There is also the mechanical owl I mentionned earlier that helps you along.
Game features include your mobile phone that holds your diary, your task list, your map and your list of achievements.
It took me all but 25 minutes into the game when I immediately went for the BUY button. What a relief, finally a CE that I can sink my teeth into. We havent had those in a while. KUDOS to the developers for a beautiful game that not only offers an entertaining storyline but also a decent amount of WOW factor.
I recommend this game!

The Calander of Ages has been destroyed and historical artifacts are spread out through time. You need to collect pieces of each artifact in order to repair the calander and save the world from chaos.
Graphics are sharp along with relatively good artwork although animation scenes were a bit amateurish. You go through time and with each artifact, a short historical fact starts off a game of a standard Swap Match 3 game whereby you need to drop peices of the artifact to the bottom of your board.
You have the option of playing relaxed or time mode which can be changed via your option menu at any time. You travel through each country, trying to put together a historical artifact. There is a golden amulet at the bottom right hand of your screen that when filled up will destroy several tiles for you. You also get bonus power ups as you move along. At first the game was too easy to play but as you move along, the game begins to get more challenging. There are achivements as well and a challenge mode to play once it is unlocked.
The demo trial flew by quickly as I had already retrieved two artifacts. At first there was some slight tedium in the gameplay but it did get interesting by the time I arrived to Japan. A great game for kids and for Match 3 gamers. Not as intricate or challenging as some of the more complexed games out there what with only one style of Swapping tiles. Nevertheless I found it relaxing and not overly frustrating to play. Interesting historical factoids as well.
I bet like me most of you have free game credits on hand that havent been used, a decent game to spend one on if you are a M3 Fan.

Our story is based on one of Grimm's best selling novel, Jack and the Beanstalk and as a recent graduated investigator from the Grimm Brothers Institute, you must use climb up the famous beanstalk to battle the mighty rampaging giant and protect the world from destruction.
Game graphics are poor as were the animations not to mention artwork that I found unappealing. Voice overs are well done as is the music. You have three modes of difficulty settings that can be customized but unfortunately despite not wanting glint, I got glint! Dont worry about not finding an object, you will get glint.
Gameplay is your basic HOPA and FROG lovers rejoice because the game is one big Fragmented object scene where once clicking on an area of interest, you need to collect parts of related objects depicted in your task bar. Each area of interest willopen up a task bar and once you collected allthe parts, you get to use the item. The frustrating thing is that you need to access an area of interest before picking up objects and they are all over the place. Thank God for the map that notonly allows you travel, but also will indicate areas of interest.
I did not like the graphics, I found the storyline weak and gameplay really too basic. Mini-puzzles were a joke, more child's play and you have the glints to help you out. The hint button was just plain nuts, good luck trying to follow the sparkles which direct you.
Clever developers added collectables, sixty easter eggs very well camoflaged and difficult to spot at times.
Again I will be unpopular but the game was just tedious, all over the place and nothing remotely challenging. I finished the demo time well before the clock ended and my recommendation, dont waste your pennies on this one. Wait for the SE or use a discount.
Jack and the beanstalk was one of my least favorite story, I always rooted for the Giant!
I don't recommend this game.

Once again Fiona and the Storm Cat needs our help in repairing the perpetual prison that will hold the Shade forever and end the Eternal Winter from going global. I really loved the previous games involving our adventures with the Shade and really looked forward to this third installment. However I have a feeling that once again I will be unpopular and perhapse amongst a minority of gamers who found this latest game to be a disappointment.
I realise that of late my reviews have been unpopular as my standards and expectations for grading a game are rather high. I usually compare my apples to oranges and this one just did not overpower me with an urgency to buy.
Otherworld does offer good graphics, excellant artwork and voice-overs that are well acted. Music is soft and unfortunately made me feel a bit sleepy. Our storyline is interesting and coontinues with our mission to imprison the Shade once and for all.
A standard HOPA with game mechanics that include a task list, inventory bar that switches to pictorial clues, a map that will allow for travel and also indicates areas of interest. Hidden object scenes vary and are interactive. There are 60 dragons to find throughout the game and a list of achievements as well.
Although all the elements are there to qualify it as a CE game, I found the game to be too slow and rather dull. The magic and the wonderment of the previous game is amiss and this third installment just did not thrill me. There is a lot of backtracking, clues to be found and mini-games were just not interesting or challenging.
I remember that the previous games had a certain darkness about the storyline as well as challeging mini-games wonderful characters that required difficult tasks to be carried out. Here, I find myself just going through the motion of finding clues and solving puzzles. I just could not immerse myself into the gameplay.
Nevertheless Otherworld does offer fairly good visuals and sound, interesting HO scenes and there are extras. I however will pass. The WOW factor is just not there and to be honest, the demo just bored me. It more of a 3.5 from me becuse to be honest, I cant say I liked the game. It was just OK for me. I will still recommend that you try out the demo and decide for yourselves.
I recommend this game!

I would have liked to give this game higher stars but it just was too childish and too easy for me. Our story is a fairy tale set in a magical land where our heroine must fight a wicked witch and save her friend. There is a mystery that needs to be uncovered so I wont give it away.
Graphics are sharp with vivid colors and cartoonlike images. You have two sets of difficulty, a journal and a pet racoon that acts as your hint system. There are no voice-overs and a soft musical score that almost puts you to sleep. Unfortunately there is no map so be prepared to do alot of backtracking.
HOG fans will love the crowded HO scenes and tons of very easy puzzles to solve. Mostly seek and find whereby you will require to click away at every scene. You have the occasional match 3 game to play whereby you need to find groups instead of swapping.
Gameplay lacks challenge, puzzles aqre too easy to solve and the entire game is out-dated. Takes me back to many years ago when the first HOPA games came out. It seems that this one has come out from the vault. A great game for young kids who enjoy fairy tails and puzzles. Most kids I know would probably find this boring.
Anyhow, I will take a pass on this, could hardly get through the demo.
I don't recommend this game.

Henri Benoit is a scientist obsessed with the idea of channeling into peoples dreams. His obsession soon becomes his madness as he discovers that he can now bring to life people's worst nightmares. Now no one dares to fall asleep in the village of Mont Triste and it is up to you to stop the mysterious Lord of Nightmares before he takes over the world.
I cant say that I am a fan of the graphics, again with the cartoonish artwork but they are never the less bright and sharp. I really to prefer to have some 2 D look to graphics as the characters look a bit like cut out paper dolls. No mouth movements but plenty of voice-overs.
There are three levels of difficulty to choose from and game features a map that will allow for travel. No journal but an amulet that opens up portals into peoples nightmares. A very standard HOPA game with collectables and achievments that may be considered as incentives to spen extra money onthis game.
Adventure aspect is appealing with the usual standard HO scene that have slight interaction. Alot of back-tracking but there is the map to help you with that. Mini-games were interesting, simple at first but they did get a bit more challenging later on, some with a minor level of frustration.
There are hidden goblins throughout the game and relatively as I mentionned, a list of easy achievements.
The game is relatively easy to play and as I noticed from the SG, there are five chapters along with a bonus section. I wasn't actually thrown over by the gameplay as there was too much hand holding and not enough challenge. Although I found the mini-games interesting, the style, sounds and images just did not appeal to me. I really am using the much more complex CE games as reference so I dont think I will be hitting the BUY button just yet. My own personal feeling is use the advantage of the sale today if you can. Not exactly a game that has the WOW factor!
.
I recommend this game!

I actually hae mixed feelings about this game, while I am a fan of the Haunted Hotel series, this seems to have strayed away from the origial concept. Is this a prequel or merely a standard HOPA game that follows the storyline of a haunted Hotel called the Final Journey? Regardless of the title, the game was fell flat and did not meet my expectations.
The hand-drawn artwork gives the overall look a bit of a cartoonish feel to it. Nevertheless the graphics are sharp and there are well acted voice-overs as well as good ambient sounds. The one annoyance is that there are no mouth or facial movements so the characters look like paper cut outs.
You have three modes of difficulty to choose from and game features include a journal, a task list and a map that indicates any actions and allows for travel.
Game play is your standard HOPA game with alot of back-tracking which also was a put off for me. You have to go back to a scene several times and each time retrieve one object. Adventure play is your basic seek and find objects to use and Hidden object scenes are standard form with slight interaction. Nothing new there with! Mini-games are interesting but very simple, or at least the ones I came across during the demo. You have your black bar tips so generally there is alot of hand holding and lacks any sort of challenge.
At least the developers have made some atttempt at keeping gameplay interesting in that they have included collectables which were very easy to find, 15 portraits hanging throughout the game. You also have a list of achievements that all have to do with hidden object scenes.
Overall the game lacks challenge and for me a bit of a yawn festival. ALthough the storyline is interesting, monsters in battle with each other, my role as detective/friend of James running around, picking up clues just did not excite me to much.
This game would be ideal for beginners however for me, been there and done that. Think I will pass! I actually miss the other haunted hotel games and think I will go back to replay them.
I don't recommend this game.

The Dreamscape series continues and this time we need to help our niece, Emmy, face her subconcious fears and lead her out of the nighmarish world that has her trapped. The professor and a talking bear calling himself Barry help us during this journey of the mind.
A very standard HOPA game with graphics that I found to be a bit too garish with a lot more than I prefer junk-piled Hidden object scenes and standard mini-games that are old-school.
NOt much to say, we have six chapters plus two bonus chapters and as for extras, we have puzzles and HO scenes to play aftr game is completed. No bells or whistles, Main menu offers onloy two modes of play and game features only a map that does allow for travel and a hint system that really only points directions.
The series has not progressed in any way and I rather just play the previous game rather than spending any time or money on this. Sorry, will pass and perhapse watch out for the SE version.
I don't recommend this game.

I loved the first game of the series and really looked forward to the second installment. However after having played the demo, a feeling of slight disappoinment was my immediate reaction. If you recall, you narrowly escaped the ship of spirits along with your two companions and find yourselves adrift at sea on a life raft. Just like Gilligan and the crew of the SS Minow, you find yourselves shipwrecked on an island which is inhabited by Mayans who demand that the artifact is returned to them. Later they realise that only you can help them to stop the Spirit of the Volcano before it causes the entire island to break apart. Your adventure begins!
Similar to the first game, the main menu offers three modes of difficulty that can be customized and offers a choice in settings. Game features include a journal, a map that does allow you to travel and an artifact that requires you to find its parts and inturn each part will relate the history of the Mayans.
The graphics are bright but not as sharp as I would like but I did like the use of colors. Artwork is good, hand-drawn scenes that has a slight grainy qualty to it. Voice-overs and sound effects are not the best I have heard and you have the familiar sounds of drums and tune in the backgound.
Gameplay is standard HOPA with alot of back-tracking involved and that is where the map comes in handy. HO scenes are interactive and really crowded but you do have the option of switching to a game of Mahjong. I actually found myself opting for Mahjong as I couln't be bothered to look for items amongst the rubble. Mini-games that I came across were generally interesting but not as challenging as I would have liked.
You have your extras that include morphing objects and also mayan statues that when clicked, turn into humming-birds which need to be caught. There are also a list of achievements that pertain to the story.
As a sequel, I personally found that this game does not hold a candle to its predessesor. There was something missing, whether it was the storyline or the gameplay, I found it rather dull and too mechanical. It simply did not have the WOW effect that I had experienced in the first game. Perhaps it is an off day for me or maybe I am just getting tired of the same mechanics of these games. However, I still am giving it four stars because it still has merits and it is a sequel which will prompt me to buy in order to find out the outcome of our heroine's adventure. Regardless of the fact that I am not overjoyed, I do enjoy the Mayan storyline and will add this to my collection.
I recommend this game!

Another crazed professor is on a rampage and out to destroy the city with his terrifying machine that mutates humans and plants. It is up to you to stop him before things go too far!
A great science fiction/fantasy tale with live actors, voice overs and terrific graphics. I loved the art-work and the use of actors which I find terrible amusing.
Main menu offers four levels of difficulty settings but be warned, if you do change this option during gameplay, you find yoruself repeating a previous scene which gets a bit confusing. This may be some minor technical glitch therefore I have opted not to change the setting.
Game features include a map that offers progress and allows for travel. You have a journal and a phone that will provide hints. A HOPA with plenty of adventure and hidden object scenes that are both interactive and very well laid out. Mini games are relatively easy but some do require patience and I like spending time on it.
Now lets get to the extras and for a SE game, there are plenty. You have a list of collectables, mutated flowers scattered throughout the game. You have secrets to collect which is hidden stashes of money and with the money, you get to up-grade a garden which is entered through the room of achievments.
So I ask myself why this game is released as a SE? My guess is that it probably is a short game and as there is no SG, I cannot tell you how many chapters are involved. Nevertheless, a great game and a steal what with the sale on today.
A definite buy for me!
I recommend this game!
