This game has so much to offer. There are the normal options available when you start the game..music, sound, difficulty, that sort of thing. I found the music slightly annoying, so I turned it down. It was, more or less, appropriate for the game. I just didn't care for it. Graphics are wonderful. The color, crispness, and environments are A-1. There were only a couple of hidden object scenes that were a little dark, and all of the scenes offered limited interaction. As usual, you get a "useful" item upon completing a hidden object scene. One of my favorite things about this and other hidden object games is finding a certain number of one particular item, and you find that in this game. The story is good...and the game offers a bit of creepiness that I enjoy. You do some running back and forth in this game, so wear good running shoes. The game has some very creative mini-games/puzzles and all were skippable and replayable. The skip button filled rather slowly, so be patient if a puzzle drives you nuts. Do you recall catching fireflies when you were a kid? You get to do that in this game, but not the way you think. You also are enabled with nifty powers that many of us would probably enjoy in real life. The game was fun, the bonus play was generous, the integrated strategy guide was helpful, and the hint button wasn't much help outside of hidden object scenes. I took about 8 hours to play the game, but I only play a couple of hours at a time, so those who play for longer periods of time may find they finish a bit more quickly, but there is lots to do, and I don't think you would finish it in an evening. All in all, a fun game, good graphics, music I didn't care for, a helpful strategy guide, and some challenging puzzles. I think most will enjoy this game, as I did.
The first word that comes to my mind is LONG! I love a game that takes some time to play and this one gave me several evenings to play and I wasn't bored once. The graphics are flawless. Wonderful colors, textures, and environments to search...and the sounds were great, too. I didn't care much for the music. It had a rather "martial" beat - I kept expecting to hear "left, right, left"...so I turned it down, as I often do in any game. The story was engaging - a "have to save the family" story, with a little twist here and there. There is a lot of running around, but it's made quite simple with one of those great "go here" kind of maps. The map provided a picture of each available area, along with a list of the tasks for each area, and all you had to do was click the picture and off you go. Without it, it would be very easy to get lost, as there are loads of places to visit. Hidden object scenes were a little junky, and there were a couple that were very challenging...like under the hood of a car..but the hint button is very helpful, both in and out of hidden object scenes. If you get lost or stuck, the hint button will tell you where to go and what to do when you get there, and it recharges very quickly. Puzzles/mini-games were skippable and, where appropriate, resettable, and the skip button charged quickly so you didn't have to spend much time on a puzzle that isn't your cup of tea. I didn't see any penalty for over-clicking, but there may be one. I didn't feel the need for lots of random clicking. I was amazed at how good the game play was for a long game - there are so many twists and turns and surprises. I never felt like the game bogged down and the story and game play flowed well. If you are looking for a really good game for the money, this is the one you're looking for. It's got a good story, wonderful graphics, good flow, and some pretty challenging puzzles and mini-games, and, best of all, you probably won't finish it in an evening. You won't be disappointed with this one!
To begin with, the game was wonderful!! You have the regular options that many games offer - along with the choice of an animated cursor and it works quite well. The music is appropriate, but I did turn it down, as I often do. The graphics were great, although, a few scenes were a bit on the dark side. I don't mean the creepy kind of dark; I mean the setting itself was dark, but it wasn't bad. The game did have a creepy aura, which I love, and there are a few "make you jump!" moments that were lots of fun. There were the usual interactions with the "other" side, and who doesn't enjoy a game that lets you talk to ghosts? I really loved all of the information offered by the game about the main character and his relationship with other famous folks and it made the story very engaging. The game flows well. The puzzles/mini-games were creative and the instructions were clear. I did take advantage of the integrated strategy guide a couple of times for help with puzzles and it was great to not need to leave the game to access a walk-through. The hint system is the same as the other Midnight Mysteries - and it's very helpful, both in and out of hidden object scenes. Hidden object scenes were a little cluttered, but not what I would call "junkpile". Most were clear and objects were pretty easy to find. I thought I was going to have to add that the game was shorter than I liked, but I was wrong. I got to a point in the game that I thought was the conclusion, but it wasn't the end at all, so I got about 6 hours of game play, from start to finish, and skipping one puzzle. I was delighted that it wasn't too short! All in all, it's a great game, with engaging characters, an interesting story, good puzzles/mini-games, good flow, and an integrated strategy guide. I don't know what else a gamer could ask for!
Overall, the game was enjoyable. I chose the most casual of the three options for game play. The graphics were lovely, as usual with this developer. Color, textures, and environment, along with sound effects were good. The music was typical for the game - I turned it down and didn't miss it at all. The story moved along well. Hidden object scenes were a bit cluttered, but not overly so and provided some interaction, some of which was quite clever. The hint system recharged quickly and was of little to no use outside of the hidden object scenes - one of those "nothing to do here" types. There was a journal for the detective's notes and for keeping pertinent information as you moved along. There was no map, but there was no need for one. The puzzles/mini-games were easier than I expected, and that is coming from someone who isn't very good at most puzzles. I was even able to solve a "hook up the pipes" puzzle on the first go. The puzzles/mini-games were fun, however, and two or three were quite innovative and were games/puzzles I hadn't seen before in a hidden object game. Some instructions weren't as clear as they could have been, but they allowed me to muddle through pretty well. Length of play, however, was a little disappointing. I finished the game in about three hours, having skipped only one puzzle. Oh - the puzzles are skippable for the most part and, where applicable, can be reset. The shortness of the game is my only negative comment. This isn't the typical "spooky" werewolf game and doesn't have that "dark" feel to it. All in all, an enjoyable evening's entertainment.
In this game, you get to find out. You will enter a place that is frightening, confusing, and will give you the shivers every time you turn a corner. You are given options on game play and the regular things like music and sound effects, but don't turn off the sound...even the game recommends you play with the sound on. The voice-overs are good, and the bad guy's voice-over is stellar. It goads you. It scares you. It belittles and harasses you. It's wonderfully creepy and slightly mad...(but aren't we all just slightly mad?). The graphics are really good..hidden object scenes were not overly cluttered and had a bit of interaction. The environment - colors, textures, things you interact with or explore - really good. There is a journal and a map. The map shows areas of interest and that sort of thing, but it doesn't allow "jumping" to active areas, and you'll use some shoeleather in this game and I did get turned around a couple of times. The hint system is fine in the hidden object scenes and pretty much useless every place else - the "nothing to do here" type, but it will show active areas in a scene if you are required to do something with a puzzle or piece of inventory. The puzzles are innovative - not seen in many other games and all are skippable and, where applicable, can be reset. I didn't need the available walk-through at all during the game. The game play is long. It took me four evenings to finish - about 12 hours, give or take, and the game has a satisfactory ending, so you really don't miss the bonus play that would be available in the Collector's Edition of this game. Overall - a great spooky game, made with imagination and just the right amount of "creepy". I'm not sure I could play this game without the lights on...could you?
This game was wonderful! The graphics are beautiful - very well done. There were no "dark" scenes, where things were hard to see. Hidden object scenes were a little junky, but everything was pretty easy to find, and I only needed the hint button twice in the entire game to find a hidden object. The hint button also helps outside of the hidden object scenes and will give direction if you get a bit lost and don't know where to find an active scene. There is a journal with wonderfully animated pictures...an interesting twist in a hidden object game. You will use a little shoe leather, as there is a bit of running back and forth, but it makes sense in the game and there is little senseless running in circles. This would have been a 5-star game for me if it had included a map with the ability to jet you off to active areas, but the hint button helps a lot. The voice-overs were very well done, and the music was appropriate and a little creepy, which was perfect for certain areas of the game. I never felt the need to use the integrated strategy guide, as the hint button gave me all the direction I needed and the mini-games/puzzles were all skippable and many had the "reset" option as well. For my skill level, the games and puzzles were perfect - a little challenging but didn't make me run to the strategy guide for help. The game had good length-of-play. It took me a few evenings to finish, including the bonus chapter. The bonus chapter isn't really necessary if you don't want to play it, as the ending of the game is satisfactory, but it does provide another hour or so of gameplay and a bit of an epilogue for the main characters - and maybe even the chance of a sequel. Great graphics, good voice-overs, terrific animations, good story, good flow - an all-around entertaining and engaging game...and a little bit of creepy. Who could ask for more in one game?
My overall experience with the game was good. Graphics were okay for the most part, although some were dark and grainy, which left some hidden objects hard to find. The hidden object scenes were junkpiles, with many, many items out of place - like teddy bears at the bottom of the sea. There were just an awful lot of things where they really shouldn't have been and those things leant very little to the game play. They were just filling up the lists. The story continues where the first Mystic Diary game left off - sort of. It tries - it just doesn't quite get there. Hidden object scenes were plentiful and the mini-games/puzzles were fairly easy and all had the skip option. The hint sytem is adequate. Length of play was fine for a game that I paid $2.99 for, but would have been too short for the regular price of a game. If you think you might like the game, give it a try - it's not awful, and I would recommend it for an evening's game play at the lower price.
To say the least, this game has everything that makes a game really, really fun! The graphics are sharp and colorful, with only a couple of dark spots where items were a little hard to see. The artwork is flawless. The music is appropriate and the ambiance is A-1. The environment sounds - the frogs and the rain and the wind - those kinds of sounds are spot-on as well, and they make a really good game, great. My favorite part? The map! It's one of those wonderful maps that show you where you need to go to find "active" areas, so you aren't wearing out your shoes while playing the game. The map shows you an active spot, you click on that spot, and you're whisked away to the very spot you need to be, and that's great for me, as I get turned around now and then. The length of play is great. Unless you do nothing but play this game all day and night, there should be at least a couple of evenings' play - I got about 9 hours or so, including the bonus game that is made available after finishing the main game. There are morphing objects to find, too! It's a game with tons of stuff to do that flows well and keeps you engaged right until the very end. If you need a game that's entertaining, a bit challenging, and fun to play, get this one!
As the title states - it's an awesome game! The graphics are worthy of a collector's edition - crisp, colorful, perfect. The sound in the game is wonderful, too. The main character has to walk through snow once, and the sound of his feet walking in snow was perfect - that's the kind of detail I really appreciate in a game. The storyline is great - here a body, there a body, everywhere a body, body - as for music, I'm sure there was some, but I was so engrossed in the game I didn't really notice it, but I had it turned down a little. the voice-overs are well done, but the character animation is a bit stilted, but that's not something I care about at all.
The only negative I can talk about is that the game was a bit shorter than I expected, considering the size of the download, but I still got two evenings of game play, about 5 hours all together.
It's an entertaining game, with great color and atmosphere, good puzzles that are skippable if need be, with a great hint system - I never got bogged down even once - and there was no need to consult the available walkthrough. The story is creepy and fun - and I will definitely play this one again.
This game has just about everything. The graphics are great, the music is fine, options are plentiful, and, if you're looking for a lot of game play for your money, get this game. It's long...but it doesn't get boring. I kept thinking, "This is probably close to the end...darn..", but it kept right on going! You will have some footwork, a good deal of coming and going, but, if you get lost, the hint system is very helpful in getting your bearings again. The game has you trying to save the day before a horrid thing happens. The hidden objects are fragmented in the hidden object scenes , and some of those fragments are tiny, but, again, the hint system works well and recharges quickly - around 30 seconds for me. You will visit many locations more than once as you play the game. I don't usually care for the fragmented games, but I really enjoyed this one. I'll play it again, too.
