I love mosaics, nongrams, griddlers - whatever you choose to call them, but, they are all pretty much the same. This one is a bit different. There IS a reason to try to get 3 stars on each level you play, or, at least 2. There is a bonus puzzle at the end of each level that can only be unlocked if you have gathered at least 2 stars on each level. There is also another puzzle after the bonus puzzle on each level that requires you to complete the bonus puzzle with at least 2 stars in order to unlock it. You don't find that sort of thing in most mosaic games. You earn money that allows you to purchase bonus upgrades so you have more goodies to help you get those stars and the money can also be used to buy goodies for the family who is taking the "tour". So - there is a reason to make the money, too. The boards are large and the tiles are quite colorful, making a pretty puzzle at the end. The ONLY thing I do NOT like - the board itself is rather dark and the little dots that appear in empty tiles can be tough to see, so, pay attention to the board when you play. I have to sit a wee bit closer to my laptop to make sure I'm seeing the board correctly. That is the only thing I don't like about the game. If you like mosaics, give this game a try!
Okay - this is NOT going to be the game of the year, but, it's not the worse match-3 I've played. In fact, some of it is just plain cute. I have NO idea where the game title- Dress Cake - comes from, but, my uneducated guess is that the game's original language wasn't English, and it translated to Dress Cake. If it isn't that, the title is a total mystery. There are things in the game that remind you of dresses - absolutely - but, I still can't figure where the cake part comes from, unless it's just that the levels are mostly made up of sweets. Game play is routine. You match 3 or more items to clear the "ice" tiles in the game. Each level has requirements you must meet in order to clear the level. Again, pretty much the same. Every third level, you get a "quest". It simply asks you to find an object on the board. Again, the language thing springs to my little pea brain, because some of it in the quests just doesn't make a lot of sense. Not only that, but there came a point in time, when a quest was active, that I just ended up clicking on every darn thing I could find that might somehow end up being what was asked for..lol...it's the only way I completed the quest. It's not a particularly enjoyable part of the game. You don't have to complete the little hidden object quests to finish a level. It simply adds a little cash to the coffers when you complete them. There are several nifty power-ups and, for me, that's where the cute part it. There are tape measures like seamstresses use to clear a row or column. There is a pin cushion that is used to clear all of a color. You swap the cushion with the color you want to clear and there are a bunch of 3-d pins that come out and clear the color, and it's neat. All of the power-ups are unlike any I've seen in a match-3 before. Again - this will never make it to the top of my match-3 list of good games - probably linger in the bottom third or so, but, it's not awful. The colors are bright, instructions are clear, the power-ups are fun, and it may make you hungry for a sweet something while you play.
Like all of the other offerings from this developer, there are several "books" of puzzles. These, of course, have a pirate theme - ships, parrots, ocean scenes, and the like. You can, as with the others, decide on things like fastening the pieces to the table ( I love that one) and whether or not the pieces are rotatable. However, I won't be purchasing this one because, as usual, the puzzles are quite small. One parrot picture has only 196 pieces! Most are between about 200 and 300, and for me to purchase a jigsaw game, I need to be able to have more pieces than that. If you are looking for a challenging jigsaw game, this isn't it. If you're looking for a jigsaw game that allows you to build small puzzles, this is for you. It would be great for a first-time jigsaw puzzle builder, but, for those that like a bit more challenge, it's a bust.
This game has the very most important thing for me in a mahjong game - no timer! I'm not a speedy player. It can take some time for me to find matches that others may find more easily, and I really dislike being penalized because of that. There IS a timer - sort of. Each level has a goal time and you get a star if you complete the level in that goal time. If you don't, you don't get the star. I don't care a fig about stars. I DO care a fig about a game that's fun for ME - and that means no timer...lol. There are several lovely backgrounds you can choose from and there are enough choices of tile sets that just about everyone should find something they like. I like, too, that the tiles are large enough that I don't spend the entire game squinting or making incorrect choices because the tiles aren't large enough or the printing on the tiles is a bit murky. Don't be taken aback if the game starts right away once it opens. I was taken aback a bit - as if I'd missed an opening scene or something like that - the one you see when you start a game that lists profiles, options, and that sort of thing. All of that will show up for you when you click on the gear in the upper level corner of the game screen. As I mentioned - there are stars. You can get three stars in each level. You lose a star if you use a hint or shuffle the board and you lose a star if you don't complete the level in the goal time. You can hide the timer if you like, and I do. I didn't care much for the music, but, I rarely ever play a game with the music on, and you might like it. The game is very nice. It's got big, easy-to-see screens, nice options for backgrounds and tile sets, and NO timer!....I was in the mood for a new mahjong game and I'm glad I shopped a bit and found this one. If you like a game that allows you to play a relaxed game with no clock ticking away and gives you a chance to customize your game play, this is the one for you!
On the cute scale of 1-10, it's a 10. There is a plethora of cutsie snails all over the place, but, one of them has taken an unexpected trip! It seems he's been accidentally packed into a suitcase, and the rest of the snails must get him back! This is a limited-move match three that requires you to clear a playing field of moss and other obstacles in a limited number of moves. You are also required to achieve a certain number of points to clear most levels. In playing most of the trial period, the number of moves seems generous and I cleared all levels with moves left over, and you get bonus points for that. I came across two power-ups. One is a +5 moves bonus you can use to add 5 more moves if you're close to a finish and need a few more moves to clear the field. The other is a trowel that allows you clear one obstacle from the field, like a stone. Certain matches will give you a "super shell" to help clear a row when matched with two more of the same color or you get, with a larger match, a package of dynamite that clears a column and, sometimes, a row, as well, depending on where it's played. The explosions are fun, the colors are bright, the characters are lively, and the storyline is cute. If you are into a really cute match 3 with limited moves, this would be the match for you!
Rainbow Mosaics is just the best!! Why, you ask? I'll tell you. To begin with, there is always a nifty story, and you don't get that a lot in mosaics or griddlers or nongrams, whatever you wish to call them. Next, you can choose from several different tile sets! I love the more dimensional ones, but they are all wonderful and the colors are bright and easy to see. Now -the puzzles themselves. Don't be fooled. The first few levels are pretty easy, but, be advised! They don't stay that easy! You are eased into the more difficult puzzles gradually and that is a great feature if someone is trying a game like this for the first time. When you work a puzzle, you get points/coins. Why do you need coins? There is a fun little store where you can buy all kinds of stuff for your forest cabin! I love that part of the Rainbow games - buying stuff! There is actually a use for the points/coins you accrue. There are also power-ups you can use to open a random square, open a selected square, or open a small section of tiles, and you can buy upgrades for them, too! Another thing I like - you make money fairly quickly so you aren't playing half the game before you get to go to the store. If you have never tried a mosaic, nonogram, griddler game, start with this one. You not only won't be disappointed, you'll be hooked! The great thing about being hooked - there are oodles and oodles of games like this on Big Fish, but, Rainbow is, in my opinion, one of the very, very best!
I have never played a game from the developer of this one. At least, if I have, I don't recall. Anyhow - I was, frankly, surprised at the level of challenge in this game. You aren't going to get the WOW factor in this game that you have come to expect in most of the current hidden object games, but, the stuff I think helps in a game is in this one. There is a jump map that shows where you are, where the action is, and which places are unavailable. I don't have to wear out my shoe leather wandering about aimlessly. I like that. The hidden object scenes are about the same. Certain items require a step or two to get found and the scenes are interactive. Some items you really have to search for, and I like that. The colors are bright, scenes are easy to get around in. I'm not stumbling around in some murky room, madly clicking, hoping to find something that is on the list. The music is appropriate for the game, as well. Puzzles and mini-games are fine. For example, there are two bas-reliefs that need to be rebuilt. You are asked to find 5 relief pieces, but, when you have gathered those 5 and go to build the reliefs, there are many more pieces to deal with. The ONLY thing I found in the 45 minutes or so that I played the game is a rotating square doo-dad that you have to turn to access a temple in the past, present, and future. If you turn it to a certain rune, you go to the past. Another to the present, and so on. I got stuck and hit the very helpful hint button that showed me I needed to be on that rune. I went - and turned - and got nowhere. The hint button told me again that I needed to be at the square doo-dad. I found myself having to turn the darn thing several times to hit where I needed to go. That's the only thing I found a bit frustrating. The hint button, as I said before, is helpful. It will tell you where you need to go and recharges quickly on the "casual" setting. There are difficulty settings in the options menu. Overall, I have enjoyed the game. I only played the game for 45 minutes or so before doing this review, but, I don't have to play a game to the end to decide if I like it or not. I will use a PCC for this game and will consider it well-spent.
I like solitaire and, as games go, Golf isn't all that bad, and, that's a good thing, because it seems that it's the game we are offered more than any other. Perhaps that is because it is a simple game to play with few rules to worry about. You just choose cards that are higher or lower in value than the one next to the deck of cards and build on that card as long as you can. This game, however, makes it actually fun to play! There are obstacles to your play that are different than any other I've played. There are cards that are frozen and require you to play the card twice to clear it from the field. There are cards that are sealed with wax that require you play certain cards to remove that seal, and some of those seals require a match with a certain suit before they fall away and make the card available for play. I've never seen that before. There are cards that require you to find a pair of scissors to clear them - sometimes more than one pair of scissors is required. There are cards locked with padlocks that require a key to make them available for play. This game actually makes you think a bit. The game requires a bit of strategy to clear the playing field and that makes the game much more entertaining for me. The goal is the same - clear off all of the cards before you run out of cards - but, reaching that goal is much more fun with this game than with any other I've played. There are cool goodies you can buy from the store to aid in game play and some of them are a first for me, too. Check out the store when you try the game and I think you'll agree that there is a lot more than the regular joker, undo, and shuffle you can buy in other games. The game has a building aspect, too. It's fun to make enough money to build something, and what is better than building rather creepy castles? The music is appropriate, as are the environments - creepy, darkish, bats flying here and there , foggy nights - it's all perfect for the game. It all comes together to provide us with a total solitaire game - fun, engaging, and thoughtful. There are also mahjong games to play that are made available to you as you make progress in the solitaire game, and they, too, are very well done. There are also difficulty levels you can choose from when you start the game. I chose relaxed - I get a re-deal, and I like that, but, to get the three stars awarded at each level, you need to win without a re-deal, so, if stars are big deal for you - don't choose the relaxed mode. Give the game a try - I think you'll like it!
I love nonogram games, griddlers, mosaics - whatever you choose to call them and this probably tops all of the games like this I've ever played, BUT - if you've never played a game quite like this, there are a few things that you should know. Number one - some of the puzzles are animated! As you complete certain puzzles, little animals or cars will zoom around what you've built, even if you haven't completed the entire puzzle. That can be a bit off-putting if you, like me, had never seen a griddler, nonogram, or mosaic puzzle move! I found myself just watching the little cars...lol. Number two - some of the puzzles were a bit hard for me to complete without a mistake because I couldn't tell how many squares I had actually filled with a certain color because the squares all blend together. For instance, there are puzzles in which you build gardens or roads and the squares you fill all blend together. I made several mistakes simply because I wasn't cautious about making sure how many of any one color or texture or surface I'd built. I figured out what worked for me and the number of mistakes dwindled. Number three - and the last one. Some of the puzzles are done with Roman numerals. It's fun to see if you can remember learning them in grade school, but, I went through grade school a LONG time ago...lol. Fortunately, if you rest your cursor on the Roman numeral, the number itself will appear, so you don't have to guess what the number is. Besides those three caveats, the game is amazing! All of the things I mentioned before are what make the game so much fun, but, it's really different than any I've played, not having played the first in the series. I definitely will be buying the first one ,too.!
I saw the game offered and thought, like many, "Oh, great - ANOTHER golf game. One up, one down, until boredom makes you regret downloading the darn thing!". Boy - was I wrong! Yes, it's a golf game - play a card either up or down, regardless of suit, hoping to clear the board before you run out of cards, BUT - to alleviate that golf boredom, there are fun, fast little mini-games. There is a match-3 game, but, be quick on the matches! There is a shell game where you have to follow a card with a baseball on it. There is also a puzzle that asks you to rotate the mixed up pieces to make a correct, complete picture, and make those turns quickly, because you don't have much time on the ticker. There is also a little match game, where you have to make matches, and you get lots of chances to get them all right, but, match those bats and more quickly! ALL of the games must be done quickly, BUT - there is no penalty at all if you mess up. You can even skip the little games, but why would you? They break up the golf game just enough to keep the whole darn thing rather entertaining! There are power-ups to buy - foam fingers, hats, bats, soda cups, and more, that enable you to play just a bit better with an extra undo or - my favorite - the bat - wipes out the whole top layer of cards in one fell swoop! Try this game - it's NOT another golf game...it's WAY better and lots more fun - and even has clever commentary by a couple of color commentators! So - get up to the plate and give this game a swing or two. It's a home run!!
