Lots of reviews already so I won't go into detail. But I do feel compelled to say that this game is one of the most engaging games I have played in a while. The story is interesting and the gameplay is diverse and very well done. Even the puzzles are more creative than I have seen in a while.
Not sure why the first reviews do not have a better rating. I found this game extremely well-executed, and the story was better than expected. I love the puzzles and the cleverly hidden-object puzzles. I hope people will try this game, I really enjoyed it, and I am a bit fussy when it comes to game content and quality. Have fun!!
Really what more could you ask for? A group of terminally crazy people, a spooky setting, characters we know from the previous games in the series and creative gameplay.
It is all here folks, the gameplay is a challenge, there is so much going on in every room it is amazing. Take time to notice the subtle things hidden in each scene. Some are very funny.
The game has a pattern but within that each part is unique to the scene it is in.
What I love is that you have to slow down and think in this game to get through it. Love the super puzzles.
I get so bored sometimes in other games I rush through them just to get the unsatisfying end. But I have enjoyed every minute of this game.
The developer took some risks here. I know it is not for everyone, perhaps too unusual for some.
I think having played and loved the MCF series is a bonus but anyone who loves the unexpected, has a sense of humor and laughs at a bit of crazy will love it.
The dead reckoning series has long been one of my favorites. I love the lack of fake monsters etc. This series is all about solving a mystery or two. The characters are believable, and the story is good. This newest addition to the series shows that Eipix has taken a fresh look and added some new elements that make it even more enjoyable. This is a game that I will play again, and I almost never do that. My one stand out moment that made me laugh was in the bonus game. We had to play an Eipix video game to get our clue. It was an arcade game in which we had to shoot the clues to get the prize. It was clever and unexpected and fun. Which is kind of how I feel about the whole game. Give it a try. It is fun.
I love this game. I have enjoyed the entire series, and this one is quite special. The subtle details in every scene are amazing. Each location has a special feel, and the graphics are beautifully rendered and true to the period. Epix always adds lots of nuance and humor to their games. They do their research and create a time and place that we are familiar with and can relate to. This series, in particular, is more intelligent than most. We have to use some strategy. We have all watched Victorian mysteries and know the books from which the characters are drawn. No silly monsters are flying at us, no portals to other impossible worlds and no shadow creatures. Just characters with personalities that have a mission to accomplish. The good guys are good, and the bad guys are bad. If you like fake monsters and lunatics trying to rule the world by hooking people up to machines that take their life forces from them, you may not like this game. None of that here. My favorite part of the series is the headquarters where we go with our clues. After we have gathered clues at a location, we return home to discuss with the vermilion watch team where to go next. What should our next move be based on what we know and which team member will we choose to advise us? I love that. In summary, the game play is enchanting with fabulous graphics, fun accents, amazingly clever puzzles and HOP scenes. Add a bit of humor and the above average story telling, and we have a winner. This game is well designed and well thought out. Because of the effort of the development team our experience so much richer I hope you will enjoy, at least try the demo. You have nothing but a little time to lose if it is not your type of game and a fun few hours to gain if you like it.
I have always loved this series from one of my favorite developers. There is something very comforting about the consistent elements this series. The color pallet, the music, elf's sense of humor, the depth of detail in each element is always there. But each game is distinct in story, this one really steps it up a notch. I don't like helpers in other games but elf would be missed if they took him out of this series. He ads an element of humor and fun that is subtly done. I really like elf, a helper in any other game is an annoying but not elf. The storyline is really well done in this game. Lots of character development as always. MT has a gift for making you care about the characters, you invest in them. You want the mission to go well. They do it by constantly informing you of the why behind the mission. In this one Bobby has a huge problem and his best friend and grandfather are trying to deal with it when you arrive on the scene. Things don't go well for a bit. As the story develops we learn more and more about the backstory of the mission. And have to figure out how to save Bobby and friends from the evil doers all around them. Beware of who you trust. Not everyone is who they seem in this amazing MT story. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
I almost did not buy the game due to early reviews. Because I have enjoyed the series in the past I decided to do the demo. So glad I did... it is fun! There is something so comforting about the consistency of this series. I always feel I am going back to play with characters I know and like. Alf is a hoot. He is the only animal helper I like. He does the funniest things. For example there is a scruffy, mean cat in one room just waiting to make trouble. So when we need an item the cat is blocking. We call on Alf, thinking he will bark and scare the cat away. But no ... Alf shows more flare than that. He climbs to a height above the cat and drops a big metal bowl on him trapping the cat. You can hear the cat underneath growling. it was so unexpected I laughed out loud. So clever! This game is funny, light hearted and a joy to play. Team what works on this game has quite a sense of humor. As usual the detail in the scenes is incredible. It is very cold here so the snow fit right in to what my own surroundings look like. Every detail is there. Look for things like foot prints in the snow, and more, things that don't add to the story but make the scenes so real. I love that, it is a creative delight. The other thing I love is the feedback sound effects. MT has used the same sounds since the very beginning. I love the solid feedback sounds when we choose an item or touch things etc. All great details that make it fun and interesting to play. I know there are some less than positive reviews but I urge you to give this game a try. I am so glad I did. I hope you enjoy it.
So often when there is a lot of hype for a game through reviews that game for me is disappointing. This game was just the opposite. It's rating does not reflect my experience with this game, indeed it exceeded my expectations! I really enjoyed the thought behind the complex story. It is interesting to find a subject such as character flaws (no it is not an expanded list of the seven deadly sins) leading to revenge killings. And odd as it sounds, somehow there was a certain charm in how the dev. took us through a series of cruel and merciless killings without making us uncomfortable. The story had multiple characters, and many twists and turns with one guiding theme, revenge by an orphan child who viewed is father's killing. We find as the story unfolds that the characters are interconnected to one another and the house that they share. Very well done. I rarely get sucked into a story as I did with this one. Normally I only buy the more advanced games by the top cutting edge developers, I am so glad I took a chance with this one. I hope you will give it a try.
This is a truly innovative game. Far beyond what we usually see. The storyline is so clever, you cannot stop rooting for the good guys to win. There is something so special and precious about good storytelling. This game has put us in a quest to keep out the dark storylines, to keep our stories happy, good and pure. The mystery of who is the good guy and who is the enemy runs throughout. With multiple location changes represented by the very stories we are fighting for. Everything about this game has been thought out to make the gameplay elegant, detailed and innovative. It is a perfect game and many thanks to the genius at Mad Head Games for yet another winner!
I see I am very much in the minority here. The other reviewers really like this game. It is unusual for me to delete a game before the end of the demo. But I could not go further. I wanted to like this game. I do like the devs. games usually. It may be that I am just tired of the monsters and evil themes where we spend all of our time running around claiming a stone or a relic or a magic book or some other item that gets into the hands of the bad guys. So we run about trying to get the thing back that never should have been lost in the first place. Oh yes and the whole world is at stake here, so why was it so easy to steal in the first place. Anyway I was really bored so I deleted it. I am glad so many of you like this game but it is not for me.
