I play a lot of BFG games and its exceptionally rare for one to crash on my computer, which was specifically built for gaming. I made it more than half way, was enjoying myself. The puzzles weren't particularly challenging, but I'm okay with that when its a game fun to lose myself in for a couple of hours. Made it to the castle and then trying to enter one room whether through the map or following arrows, the game crashes. Tried 5x and gave up to write this review. Guess I'll try a different game.
I play a lot of games from BFG and rarely comment unless it really amazes me or really disappoints me. I typically buy games to play wo playing the demo because I love the mental break when I play regardless of how awesome it is. But this one..... I started out liking it. And did enjoy most of the puzzles. They weren't hard, but a few took a little dedicatation. Not brain teasers (they are all repeats of what you find in most games) and they did seem to be simplier than most games, but still, more puzzles than HOPs and I liked that. I liked that it had collectibles and achievements. I'm one of those who checks the available achievements and plays to get them all. It's the gold star and check marks I need in my life to feel like I accomplished something. I liked that it had a map. Super helpful. I love that it had an alternative to the HOPs and not that many HOPs.
Here is why I gave it a 2 on the fun factor. For some reason there is a cut scene for just about everything. Everytime you interact with a character, cut scene. And they are the same cut scene dialog... "Oh thank goodness its you. Your sister is great. Samual is bad. Please help us." Argh. I never skip the cut scenes. I like the story lines. Even the ones that aren't that well developed. But this was just tedious and took away all of the fun I should have had. I skip them after the first 10. I'm not recommending this game, unless you like cut scenes. Otherwise, you'll just be frustrated.

I don't understand the 3 stars. Perhaps people who prefer HOGs didn't like it. I only play games with HOS because that's all they've been making. This is a very simple game of find the items to solve little puzzles with a few traditional puzzles thrown in. It isn't as sophisticated as Safecracker. It is pretty easy to move along and figure out what to do. Everything sparkles and there are highlights telling you what's missing. I didn't need a walkthrough to help me with any of the puzzles.

I don't know, if it were free, I might play it. The graphics were okay some of the time, and then not very crisp. Wayyy too many cut scenes and I only made it through 30 minutes of the demo. I swear, I gave it a shot. The sound track loop would play for about 3 minutes pause for about 2 and then loop back to the same ominous piano notes. I'm do not usually care about believable storylines, but this one annoyed me.
You must click on one thing to do something else. You don't save up activities that you have to think about, you just click the next thing. I didn't need to think through anything. Receive knife, nothing else to do here, click forward once, a box to open. Now, let me think. Receive battery. A magnifier missing a lens and a flashlight with an open battery compartment. Now there's a hotspot under the cabinet, but it's too dark. If I had small kids, this would probably be a great game. I'm an adult who's into playing games, so this bored me stiff. And the notebook was not helpful. I'd rather replay what I already have while waiting for the next offering.

I prefer puzzles to HOSs, so this game was right up my alley. I also prefer the type of HOGs that require you to find a few objects hidden in the area to obtain the item you need. I don't know what those are called, but that's what this is.
I played Advanced and admit to frequently checking the Guide, which is the first reason I'm glad I got the CE version. I will say that the whole game took me about 3 hours to play, so it isn't a long game. I dream of the day that my $14 buys a weekends worth of entertainment like it used to when you had to buy games at the Game Stop. That said, I did enjoy it and will definitely play it again, so in today's market, I feel I got my money's worth.
I don't normally play the music, but this one was suitably omnious and created great tension. I thought the game its self was pretty short, but it was a departure from the HOGs we've been getting for the past year. I don't particularly care about storyline, but if you are into that sort of thing, I saw the bad guy coming. It's fairly obvious.
Quite a bit of running around and there is no map, but the Notebook does keep a running list of tasks that are somewhat helpful if you can remember where that task is located, hence my use of the Guide from time to time.
The other reason I'm glad I got the CE is that the extra game play was reasonably challenging and not over in 5 minutes. Usually, they are. I'm fairly judgmental about games, so an Excellent rating is going to be rare for me, but I do recommend for killing a few hours.

It should be noted that I like to be challenged. I'm addicted, for some inexplicable reason, to all of the MK4TP, Westwards, Royal Envoy, Totem Tribe.... I could go on. I like having to strategize before I click Go. I like the tension, the pressure, the clock counting down, the goals. This game should have been a great fit for me. I was so bored, I had to give up. The whole time I kept thinking I'd rather replay one of the ones I already own. The graphics were bland. The play tedious. The goals uninspired and not in the least challenging. It is just my opinion, but I couldn't get through this game, which you should also take into consideration. Maybe if I had stuck with it I would have liked it. But then again, I loved the above list immediately. I'm going with my gut.

I really have gotten sick of all the HOGs, sparkles, and hints. This game reminds me a lot of the old adventure games before they starting making HOGs. They did put in a narrator who's talking you through how to play the game. That's different than the old AG. But, like the old AGs you just click-skip your way through it.
I haven't played more than the demo hour, but I'm buying the full game. I loved Ghost Pirates of Voodoo Island, which was fun and silly and I spent days trying to figure out what to do. This seems like a simplified version of that. There were no hints back in the day. Just hot spots. That's why I found here. I don't know yet how many hours you'll get to play. But if it's like the old adventure games, it should take the whole weekend. It isn't a Siberia or a The Lost Crown, but for $7 its worth it. I just bought Braid, but haven't played it yet. This seems like a simplified version of that.

I usually enjoy the adventure games, but sometimes for a nice relaxing break I enjoy the HOS where you look for the pieces that make up the item and the items have to be used to get the next little piece. I agree with the other reviewer, the dialog and constant cut scenes are annoying, but I enjoyed it. I like that you have to play puzzles and find the items. I don't always care if a story makes sense.

I love the adventure games. I don't mind that they are generally the same, because honestly I think it must be a difficult job creating these games and how many original ideas can a group of people have. This one does it. Totally worth the CE price.
I really liked that I could see each areas progress. I knew when an area was exhausted so didn't have to waste time go back over everything. I played the advanced version so no sparkles. I did have to use the hint a couple of times because I just couldn't see the piece of the object I had to find. They were really clever with hiding some of them.
I liked that I had to collect coins that let me job locations on the map. I felt accomplished and didn't have to run everywhere. There is a lot of backtracking to spots later on, so much appreciated there.
I also really liked that they incorporated the CE Bonus Features into the main game instead of a chapter at the end. I don't know how the regular addition will play, but really enjoyed the CE version. Graphics are great. Highly recommend playing in the dark. It makes it much better. Can't wait for the sequel.

I loved the first one. I prefer adventures and puzzles. I don't mind that most on BFGs even have HOS in them. I don't typically play the time management or whatever category this, My Kingdom for the Princess, and Build-a-Lot are, but landagoshin, I love all three of those series. I had high hopes for RE2 and they didn't let me down. There is a ton to love imo, but I'll hit the highlights.
I really enjoy challenges with rewards. The games that give me trophies or stars so I can see how I'm doing. The CE version of this game has the regular game just like RE1, but it also has the Challenge sites. I finally had to close the game. I've been playing for days (except for breaks to go to work). I can't get enough.
The main game is oddly completely different, or different enough that it isn't the exact same game as RE1. You collect resources slightly differently. They leave hints everywhere. I just couldn't stop playing. First night I got it, I played until 3am. I completely lost track of time. So, warning there.
I haven't enjoyed a game as much in a long time. Tons of fun. There were a few locations that I got tripped up on and needed the guide to strategize, but I just peeked so I didn't feel like I completely cheated. Because of RE1, I was able to strategize on my own pretty good. Like the original, once you get through a location, its easy to retry the location again and get 3 stars. I gave Challenge on this review 4 stars because it wasn't too difficult to get the stars (except for Challenge L22, curses), but I am glad its the level it is. Any more difficult and I would have gotten frustrated.
And most importantly (to me), unlike the three Royal Princess games there were no chapter breaks where you have to go through and get a bunch of coins to get 3 stars on every location. I like that I felt completely successful once I'd gotten 3 stars everyone and it was a pain to do, just lots of fun.
