A 5-star game in all aspects: excellent graphics (though improperly lit in some scenes sadly), ambient sound, voice, music, cutscenes, puzzles & storyline. And a HUGE game environment--so many places to go. Definitely lots of running around but good maps provided.
Intriguing storyline with some philosophical depth: questioning limits of artistic genius vs madness, what love is worth & so on. Game atmosphere & pacing are well done, never boring. I despised Oscar & his taunts yet many of his comments have merit & sometimes I almost pitied him. So glad there are no ghosts, nothing supernatural, just old-fashioned wickedness born of an almost logical kind of mental illness/insanity.
The marvelous puzzles are many & varied; HOS are few & all interactive. Puzzle presentation is fantastic too--colourful & contextual. Some puzzles are unique or twists on classics, most medium difficulty, a few (e.g. train puzzle & finale puzzle) hellish hard IMO. Skip & hint buttons work well. No sparkles on Expert mode.
Since game world is so big, Strategy Guide is useful. Game ending is great! CE bonus chapter (@ 1 hour) adds to story & sets up for sequel (though it's complete). A fun, long game (took me > 6 hours 1st time with skipping 3 puzzles); excellent production values; hardly any reading thanks to the audio messages; & a creepy story that makes you think a bit too... definitely worth every penny as a CE IMO.
Definitely NOT a children's game. Folks thinking so either didn't play much past tutorial or are geniuses.
Game is logic-based, seriously creative & requires outside-the-box thinking to achieve success at the tasks. It's a heck of a lot of fun for anyone who enjoys brain twisters/puzzles.
Game's design/concept is like what we'd expect to find in terms of word/logic puzzles in a high-end CE. Graphics are attractive for what they represent: cardboard cutouts.
I've been at it 4 hours already, absolutely loving it. Likewise any old school adventure gamers, puzzler lovers or players wanting a fun yet brain-challenging (thinky) game, should give this a try.
*Play the whole demo.* Game difficulty definitely ramps up past tutorial as player progresses through the chapters.
Return once more to the haunted grounds of Ravenhearst Manor to uncover new details about this poignant saga. What you find could very well be the final chapter of this riveting story-if you escape.
A brilliant game for graphics, design & technical. As always from BFG Studios, devs bring something new to the genre. Here, it's morphing objects (MO's) to replace flat, static standard hidden objects.
Some (like me) will love the MO's. Others may find the change displeasing. What I want as an adventure gamer "Escape" delivers: a challenging experience; a great storyline to follow on the "Ravenhurst" classics; an eerie, ghostly atmosphere & no (IMHO) boring HO searches constantly interrupting the story flow.
I love the MO searches! Besides this style offers lots of time to appreciate the game's beauty, some of the MO's are so skillfully made that the challenge to find them brings great joy.
Built-in CE bonuses are fun & Strategy Guide is amazing: no words or texts, all pictures!
For its long, involved story, the fantastic graphics, & great gameplay & immersive environment, IMHO "Escape CE" is worth every penny and more!
The game offers a decent, detailed story, is fast moving, never boring... graphics are attractive with many little special effects that show "love" from the devs.
Puzzles are good & varied & the adventure tasking elements are mostly logic-based.
Item searches are terrific: bubbles/circles open to show what we need to find--very slick--this game improves considerably on standard mechanic for this type of searching.
A long, funny, & fun game, definitely a good buy IMO.
