I am not a prude, I like scary storylines, and a few demons here and there, but this game just gave me the heebie jeebies from the get go! I didn't even play past the first 5 minutes, as I found it way too demonic, so I can't give it much of a review. I just wanted to point out that many people would find it a bit much.
I thought this game was going to be good, and the storyline captured me, but for me it isn't a 'must purchase' game, even with the Memorial Day sale. To me there wasn't a great deal about this game that set it apart from many other games of this genre. I found the puzzles to be quite difficult with little explanation. The HOS were reasonable, but some objects were quite small and difficult to find. The was a lot of moving back and forth, without a map, so some people could find that annoying. I wouldn't say that I WON'T purchase the game, as I was quite pulled into the story, I will wait for it to become a Daily Deal - it's not worth paying full price, or even $4.99 from my point of view.
I have Dark Dimensions: City of Fog, so when this came out, I knew I wanted to try it. 10 minutes or less into the demo and I knew I had to purchase it. It's even better than City of Fog. I LOVE the graphics, and the storyline is wonderful. I am playing it on the casual level, and finding it enough of a challenge. The HOS are challenging but not too difficult. There are often a number of objects that need to be put together or 'found' before you can click on them, but I enjoy this, it adds an extra 'dimension' (haha a little play on words there) to the HOS. The puzzles are fairly simple, but I like that in an adventure game, I don't like my puzzles to take away from the overall gameplay - I enjoy the puzzles, but I don't want to spend all my time in a game trying to figure them out. The music is unobtrusive, and can be turned down if you find it annoying. This game is a definite 'must purchase' for me!
I bought and played House of 1000 Doors: Family Secrets, so when this came out, I had to try it. The Palm of Zoroaster does not disappoint! Again the graphics are wonderful, although the people are a little 'crisp' on the edges, the rest of the scenes are amazing. Once again you have 46 'Beyond Objects' to find which adds to the gameplay. There is an interactive map which is wonderful as there is a fair bit of to-ing and fro-ing. Like Family Secrets, there are doors that lead you into different worlds, where you must solve a mystery, that will help you within the house. The HOS are involved but not overly difficult, and puzzles aren't too hard either. The adventure aspect is challenging and enjoyable. A 'must purchase' from my point of view!
Rescue a young girl from the Penumbra Motel. Solve puzzles, unravel a long standing mystery of death and disappearances in this heart-pounding adventure game!
I very much enjoyed this game. It is quite different to most of the puzzle games I have played recently in that there were no HOS, which was a refreshing change. There are 3 levels of play and I played on the casual level, which I found to be quite fine for my level of expertise. The gameplay was intriguing and requires some thinking as to where to go next, and where to find certain objects. There was some dialogue, but it was both spoken and written, so if you didn't wish to listen to the whole thing, you could click to the next part easily. I found the storyline to be interesting and captivating. I don't purchase CEs as I don't see the value in them, as we are on a budget, but I will definitely purchase this one when the SE comes out.
I played this game when the CE came out, and at that time I was a little undecided about it, so when the SE came out, I downloaded the demo, and it's been sitting there waiting for me to play it. Tonight I decided to give it another look, and I enjoyed it so much I purchased it and am in the process of downloading it. The graphics in this game are delightful. The cut scenes look like roughly drawn illustrations, but when you get to the real gameplay the scenes are extremely well done and are very realistic. I also love that there are interactive areas that you can click on that don't affect the game, but are fun just the same. I got quite a fright when I moved a box and bugs went scurrying in all directions! There's an extra element of finding 24 hidden cats throughout the game, which adds to the gameplay. There is a fair bit of going back and forth, without a map, so if you don't like doing this, then you may find that tiresome. There are quite a few HOS, but I enjoy those, and they aren't too difficult. Each time you are left with an object that is useful to you in another area of the game. I enjoyed the demo of this game, and like a lot of other games, the demo isn't the full 60 minutes, but ends at a certain point in the game - enticing you to purchase the game. I, for one, am looking forward to getting back to the game to continue with the story!
Judging by the 2 reviews of this game, I expected a much better game. It was slow to get going at first, as there was not a lot of *direction* as to what to do next, but once I got the hang of it, it wasn't too bad. There are 3 levels of play, and I played on the easiest level, which still had a decent amount of challenge. One thing I found to be annoying was that when you were picking up pieces of an item, it didn't tell you how many pieces were needed, so you would start to put something together only to find that it wouldn't work because you didn't have all the pieces. Also, and this is a personal preference, when I play HOG I like my HOS to remain accurate to the time period in which the game is set - this game does not do that. One scene has you looking for a pin - which to me would be a pin used either in dressmaking, or a pin for a pin board, but no, it was a bowling pin! The graphics were reasonable, but I've seen much better. The music and sound effects were okay, and you have the option of muting all. You also have the option of a system cursor, which does take a little away from the game, but was necessary on my computer, as some games can cause my mouse to be sluggish. I played the demo right to the end, but this isn't an immediate purchase for me - possibly for a Daily Deal sometime.
I've had this game for a while, but am only now getting to play it and review it. I purchased it straight after playing the demo, as I liked it so much. There are 3 modes of play - casual, advanced and hardcore. I'm playing on casual, and I'm enjoying the level of challenge. The HOS are great, not too obvious, but not too difficult either. As I've said in other reviews, when there's a mystery to solve, I prefer my HOS not to be impossibly difficult, but still challenging, so as not to spend forever on the HOS. The storyline is great - I love that you're able to enter into your sister's memories. The graphics are delightful, and the music is pleasant and unintrusive. I'm thinking that, like Blue Tea, Elephant Games are rising to the top of my list of great game developers. I have also purchased Grim Tales: The Legacy and will be happily playing that once I have finished The Bride. I haven't finished the game yet, so I can't say if it is a long game - but length of play isn't always a top priority for me, enjoyment of the game is more important to me.
I recommend this game!

I really enjoyed playing this game as it had a good mix of HOGs and puzzles. I enjoyed the 'whodunnit' aspect of it, and enjoyed figuring out where to go next, and what items were needed to finish in one area. The graphics were great in some areas, good in others - some areas were very photorealistic, but others were a little poorly rendered, but it didn't take away from the game play. I did find the 'pop pop' as you moved over some things to be annoying, but you have the option to turn off the sound effects, which I did. It has two options of play - casual and experienced, so it caters for more serious HOG/puzzle players. I played the casual level and found the HOS to be not too difficult without being boring, which is something I like in a puzzle game, I don't want to spend all my time searching for objects in a HOS when I can be continuing on with the storyline. I was still enjoying the game when my demo ran out. I'm undecided on whether to purchase this right away or not - I didn't get that feeling of 'I have to buy this', but I will think on it overnight and if I find myself dwelling on the game and wanting to get back to it, I will purchase it.
This was actually a not bad Match 3 style game, with extra additions to beef it up a little, but I couldn't give it a good try, as for some reason I was unable to move from level to level, without closing out the game completely. When I finished each level the confirm button would come up, and the game would freeze. Otherwise I enjoyed the game, and think it could be a good game for those who enjoy Match 3 games. I did find the pieces to be slightly unresponsive when exchanging them, and it seemed I couldn't slide them, but only click and click, so some people might find that tiresome. The music could probably become annoying after a time also. All in all, not a wonderful game, but not a bad game either.
