One reason for downloading this was to find out which Queen could be having an affair with a man which could threaten the throne. The opening scene, set in 1601, shows the protagonist, a "handmaiden" (should be Lady in Waiting), brushing the long auburn locks of the then 68-year-old Queen Elizabeth I. She is then betrayed by another "handmaiden" dressed in the fashion of 200 years previously. This was already robbing me of the will to continue - the developers obviously don't care. The game itself is banal, with anachronistic junk-pile H0 scenes and simple puzzles, and an increasingly improbable story line. Instead of puzzling out how to escape while you have the chance, you wander from scene to scene around "the Tower" finding items to solve tasks set by ghosts who pop up looking for help. It's just not challenging enough to overlook the silliness.
I stuck with it to the end of the demo. It's hard for me to find anything positive to say beyond that the concept was a really good idea, and the music didn't annoy me. I hated the ugly cartoon graphics and the way the story stumbled along. Other posters have mentioned having to kill a mouse and continually having to use the hint button. The puzzles were a nonsense, as were some features like the "magic" door into the compere's room, but perfectly normal door into and out of it on the corridor. What no-one else has mentioned yet is the very poor English. The bits of dialogue are strange and stilted because of it, but worse is the mis-naming of objects in the search scenes. There were 2 "pins" in one scene: one turned out to be a comb (or hair ornament) and I couldn't even work out what the second one was when the hint showed me it. In another scene there was a "wooden reed" which was pan-pipes (or flute, whatever), and "swab" which was a shaving brush. 40 minutes of my life wasted - don't waste yours!
I've tried to play the 1 hour trial, but first I had to load up the walkthrough to find out how to even move around in the game. It's emphasised that you need to listen in full to every conversation as the game is story led and clues are hidden throughout the dialogues. I managed to steer to the first major character and I think she talked for at least fifteen minutes. When she finally stopped I had to go back to the walkthrough to find out how to get away from her! Once I'd at last reached the first scene I had to search, I found that if you've looked at an object once you can't pick it up for a second look! So that's a few important clues I've probably missed by doing an initial scan around. I think this game could be a good puzzle. I'm not going to find out in an hour and I'm not spending more time and any money trying to find out.
