Secret City Chalk of Fate is an excellent game. The Secret City series is one that I continue to enjoy as played through each of the previous games. I love the concept of a “secret city” hidden from the eyes of humans who live side by side with those hidden by magic.
This developer continues to give us a lot of value for our gaming dollars as they present CE games that are filled with the extras that many have other developers have cut to the bare minimum. Chalk of Fate is not only filled with great extras, it has an entertaining storyline with gameplay that kept me playing for hours.
There is a nice variety in the HOPS with some scenes being better than others. I am still a fan of the original list style but another favorite that is present in this game is where we find specific pattern parts that are hidden in a portrait. There are many other scenes I enjoyed but don’t want to spoil your enjoyment by telling you what you will find. At least for me, discovery is most of the fun in playing a game. Even though I don’t always enjoy puzzles, I am a fan of the puzzles this developer includes in its games. There was one puzzle that had very poor instructions and I skipped it because I didn’t know what I should do. The final solution still made no sense and I imagine that I might not be the only one to skip this puzzle.
A well-planned storyline along with entertaining gameplay kept me involved until I finished the game. There are many times that I don’t finish a game until the next day, but Chalk of Fate held my attention until the end. I haven’t yet completed the bonus chapter but will get back to it sometime today.
If you enjoyed the other games in the Secret City series, then you will most likely enjoy Chalk of Fate. As always, please try the demo to see if it is a game you will enjoy as well. Happy gaming!
Awesome! The Wild Side is like having Christmas a second time this year. What a brilliant game to start a new decade of gaming. The graphics are colorful but not with the neon coloring that is often favored by this developer. Not only are the graphics brilliant, the game itself is very creative.
The life of a Seeker is often dangerous and as a birthday gift your sister has given you tickets to India where you can relax and get away from all the Seeker business. However, a small monkey has different ideas and he steals your watch to lure you through a portal to the jungles of India. Once you transport through the portal you find a totally different perspective of India.
I love this gorgeous game, not only because of the graphics but because of the gameplay. It is only my opinion, but this developer knows how to create very playable games with rich storylines and the other factors that make games fun to play. Sure, it is a HOPA game and we will still have to find bits and pieces of this and that as we make our way through the game the variety of HOPS. I guess this developer hasn’t received the message that many gamers do not like puzzles and this game is another where the puzzles outweigh the HOPS. I do realize that it is far easier to slap a puzzle into a game as a time-filler than it is to create HOPS, but I would still like to find a more even balance between the HOPS and Puzzles. Even though I am not a fan of too many puzzles in HOPA games, this is a game that I purchased because it has excellent gameplay and a terrific storyline.
The creativity shown with the animals is worth the purchase of the game but that is only my humble opinion. If you love animals, exploring jungles, and simply want a beautiful game to begin the new decade, then this is the game for you. After playing the beta, I’ve been waiting for this game to be released and the full game is as wonderful as I hoped it would be. As always, please try the demo to see if this is a game you will enjoy. Happy New Gaming Decade!
When I first became a member at BFG eons ago, I always looked forward to Thanksgiving and the release of the annual Mystery Case Files game. Although I found most of the games good, only two are my all-time favorites, and one is related to the story of Phineas Crown – a storyline that is revisited with Mystery Case Files: Black Crown. After playing the beta for Black Crown I knew it was a game that I would love. Black Crown is the first MCF game that I have looked forward to in the past several years, and this one is well worth the wait. Kudos to the developer who has done a wonderful job with this game because it is everything I hoped it would be.
If there is anything that I dislike about the game it is that in some of the HOS, the items are very tiny and difficult to identify. I have a 34” monitor and I still had difficulty finding some items because they are too small. Most of the HOS were better than the few with minuscule items to find, and those were much more fun to play. One of my favorite HO scenes is early in the game where I had to find matches between the chalk drawings on wall sections with the sketches on paper notes.
One of the best things aside from the storyline are the puzzles in the game. I love some of the Rube Goldberg puzzles that are signature to this series. Black Crown has some of my favorite puzzles and contains one that I haven’t seen in years. It is a puzzle where we much place hands on a pocket watch in order to cover every hour on the watch face. I loved this puzzle the first time I ever encountered it in a game, and it is just as much fun today.
I finally finished the game and I have to say that the end was as wonderful as the beginning. The Black Crown is wonderful, and I think it is one of the best MCF games in several years. If future MCF games are of the same caliber as Black Crown I will once again look forward to the tradition of playing an MCF game as a special Thanksgiving treat. Please try the demo to see if you will enjoy Black Crown as much as I did. Happy gaming!
Joe the Clutter master makes his return with Clutter IX: Clutter IX Extreme. Over the past couple of years we have had knock-off clutter games presented here at BFG, but none have matched the wizardry of Joe. I love Clutter and I have spent hours playing and replaying all of the Clutter games that I’ve purchased over the years because no others are quite as good. What a New Year’s Eve treat this is for me!
Clutter IX is creative and has the special touches I love in Clutter games. There is an endless variety of puzzles including the standard Clutter options along with my favorite sliders and many other puzzles. Clutter IX is sure to keep me busy for weeks, if not months. Thank you Joe and BFG for an amazing New Year’s Eve game.
I’m more than ready to turn the page on 2019, a mediocre gaming year at best, and step into what I hope is a bright new decade of gaming fun here at BFG. I’m hoping the return of my beloved Clutter games will set the tone for new and exciting things to come here at BFG. Happy New Year to my gaming friends AND to BFG for keeping wonderful games coming our way. Happy gaming everyone!
THIS LEAGUE OF LIGHT IS DEFINITELY DIFFERENT – ONE YOU WILL EITHER LOVE OR HATE

fromCreativity is something I admire but why do developers feel the need to make items so indistinguishable? Do they not realize that most HOPA lovers are older and might not see as well?
Wow, League of Light Growing Threat is certainly different than what I normally expect in a League of Light game. I certainly have some love/hate feelings about the game’s structure. Gone is the great storyline I expect in this series and it has been replaced by numerous HOS that are full of puzzles and barely visible items to find.
Growing Threat is interesting to say the least, but I am not sure it is my cup of tea. The game reminds me of those very early HO games that were basically one HOS after another with very little attempt at a story. Although I applaud the developer for creating some of the most interesting HOS in years, I disliked the objects that were so small or invisible in overly cluttered scenes that made them difficult to find. As I knew I was running out of time in the demo, I did nothing but hit the hint and skip buttons because I wanted to find out if the game was worth purchasing. Although I disliked the HOS, I found the puzzles creative and challenging. I considered purchasing the game because I did like the puzzles that were in each HOS. The puzzles were, IMHO, the best part of this game with some of them being challenging.
Although the developer showed a great deal of creativity with the HOS, it wasn’t enough for me to want to purchase the game. I found it very frustrating and tedious to play nothing but HO scenes – one after another. For those of you who want to struggle with finding almost invisible items, this might be a game you will love. Although I love creative HOS, I still want items that are identifiable and larger than those included in this game. Even though this game is a pass for me, please try the demo because it might be one you will love. Happy gaming!
Christmas is my favorite time of year! I so enjoy the fact that the games coming out this month will be happier and brighter all to set the stage for a magical time of year. For years now I have looked forward to the Christmas Stories release from one of my favorite game developers because the games are so excellent. They are all based on one tale or another and the first one that began it all in 2012 also began a Christmas tradition for me.
This latest annual release Enchanted Express is another magical game that features the beloved characters Hansel and Gretel. As Hansel and Gretel are on their way home, Hansel is enticed onto a train by a storyteller. In order to ride the train Hansel must atone for any wrongdoing he may have caused throughout the year. Of course, Gretel isn’t invited on board so she jumps on the train as it is leaving the station and now, she must not only save Hansel but herself as well.
After so many recent dark and dreary games, Enchanted Express is the game I’ve been waiting for. I love everything about Christmas, so the bright colors and the Christmas music sent me to my happy place as I played this wonderful game. The gameplay is nothing new as we must find this or that or do this or that in order to move forward to the next scene. I don’t let that put me off as that is the basic premise of all HOPA games. I enjoyed all the HOS and even the puzzles that I thought were excellent. Most of the puzzles, although familiar, were brightened up with a Christmas theme. Some of my favorite puzzles were included in the mix so that kept me very happy.
Christmas Stories Enchanted Express is the perfect game to kick off the holiday season and it is one that can be enjoyed by the entire family. Even though the game is perfect for me, please try the demo to see if it is one you will enjoy as well. Happy gaming!
ITS NOT WHAT I CONSIDER CHIMERAS BUT IT’S A VERY GOOD MYSTERY GAME

fromPerhaps the developers should lose their attachment to these older series and create something new. This game would be great in a new mystery series.
Chimeras The Price of Greed is a very good mystery game, if that is what you want. I thoroughly enjoyed the demo BUT, as a Chimeras game it fell far short of the original that was released six years ago. When Chimeras Tune of Revenge was released in 2013 it was an instant hit with gamers and received a solid five-star rating. Over the years Chimeras has morphed into something different just like those abundant morphing objects we find in games from this developer. As far as Chimeras games go, it seems the well has run dry.
Had The Price of Greed perhaps been released as a new mystery series, I think the game overall would fare better in the ratings from gamers. The game is actually a very good mystery game that I enjoyed. The storyline is very interesting and progresses well as we go on a never-ending search for bits and bobs that are strewn all over the Carrington mansion. It is the basic premise of HOPA games that we must search to find the items we require to complete the game and that will never change. For newer gamers, those who haven’t played hundreds of HOPAs over the years, they will find The Price of Greed a very well-crafted mystery game from one of BFG’s top developers. I happen to love games from this developer and have not often been disappointed by any of their games. I happened to enjoy the demo of the Price of Greed and will purchase the full game.
The HOS are typical of those we often see and there was not anything different or new. I am not one of those gamers who always expects something new or different in HOPA games since I realize that there is only so much that can be done given the basic format. Occasionally, I am delighted when there is that surprising touch of creativity with the HO scenes, but I don’t always expect to find it in each new game.
The puzzles or mini games are excellent and there are many included that I have enjoyed in the past. I am particularly fond of the puzzle where I had to place tokens into a basic frame to fill the entire area with no spaces in between the tokens. I love that type of puzzle and it has always been one I enjoy. There is a good variety in the puzzles and most of them were enjoyable with only one that I skipped because I hate the ones where moving one bar changes the others. I fiddled with that puzzle and finally just hit the skip button because I found it so annoying. Maybe when I feel more like spending some time to figure out the sequence, I might even enjoy it.
It is my humble opinion that The Price of Greed would be better as a new series rather than being attached to the Chimeras series. I think gamers expect a certain thing from their favorite long-time series, and The Price of Greed simply doesn’t meet my expectation as a Chimeras game, and it may not resonate with others as well. Because I enjoyed the demo and want to see how it all ends, the game is a purchase for me. As always, please try the demo to see if Chimeras The Price of Greed is a game you will enjoy. Happy gaming!
Whispered Secrets Dreadful Beauty seems to be a change from the previous games that we’ve seen from this developer. This is a dark and excellent game that drew me in right from the beginning. For me the game seemed a bit more difficult and not quite as easy as some of the more recent games we’ve seen. I loved that the solutions were not always obvious and that I sometimes had a difficult time figuring out where to go, or what to do next.
The mechanics in the game will often present a choice between various actions in order to solve a problem. The result of whichever action we select will somehow change the game, but until I replay it, I am not certain that anything actually changed the end result. It is a fun idea at least and one that guarantees I will definitely play the game more than once.
The HOPS were entertaining and it was difficult to not hit that hint button when I got stuck. Yep, I did have to resort to using it once or twice in the game, so I won’t earn the achievement for getting through the HOPS without using the dreaded hint button. The puzzles were also very good and I didn’t find any that resulted in a huge brain drain headache to solve.
The CE version of the game does offer a lot of extras. I enjoyed spotting the morphing objects and then the herbs that were hidden in all of the scenes. Sometimes the morphing objects jumped right out at me but sometimes I missed them when I first looked at a scene. Something I appreciate in the game is that there is a pop-out slider that will let you know how many herbs are to be found in each scene. Since I am fairly driven to find all of the collectibles in CE games, I always appreciate knowing how many there are to find.
Whispered Secrets Dreadful Beauty is a challenging and terrific game that held my attention as I played. I enjoyed the storyline and it took a bit of time to figure out who really was the “bad guy” in the game. I always enjoy a game that keeps me guessing! Even though I purchased the game, I recommend that you try the demo to see if this Whispered Secrets game is one that you will enjoy. Happy gaming!

I love a good whodunit game but this is not one of them. What I played of the game seemed rather hokey to me and simply wouldn’t hold my attention. The cartoonish graphics that seemed flat in the scenes simply made the game seem second rate and couldn’t compare to some of the better games from this developer.
The worst part of this game for me were the overcrowded, junkpile HOS that had almost invisible items to locate and the mini-games that were far too easy. I dislike too many puzzles in HOPA games and it seems like the ones in this game were far too many and simply thrown in to give the gamer something to do.
As much as I appreciate a good mystery, Family Mysteries Poisonous Promises just wasn’t one of the better ones. I guess the voiceovers and the graphics simply didn’t appeal to me at all. At times the game seemed that it was pieced together and rushed to publication. The storyline was okay but the gameplay didn’t appeal to me. In fact, I could hardly complete the demo as the game didn’t hold my attention. I happen to know that this developer is capable of so much more than this comic book type game. I guess the bad HOS in the beginning of the game simply put me off. As always, I recommend that you try the demo because you might enjoy this game far more than I did. Happy gaming!
