The Shadow Wolf series is back and this time with Under the Crimson Moon, the fourth game in the series. IMHO, nothing could top Curse of the Full Moon and I was disappointed by the time the third game appeared but as Under the Crimson Moon begins we immediately become aware that things have changed and some exciting gameplay enhancements are coming our way. The game begins as you receive a letter from Ellis Cote who asks you to help solve the mysterious deaths in her town. When you arrive at her estate you are greeted by a vicious pack of wolves that are soon subdued by a horrendously ugly and monstrous werewolf, just the first of a few unexpected, scary moments. After you regain your composure and access the house you meet Ms. Cote and jump right into the investigation. As you move forward with the adventure, solving the mystery of the werewolf is becomes quite interesting, with more than a few of those scary, jump from the chair moments.
The graphics are excellent and typical of ERS games but I do wish that the artists would get rid of the mistiness that is often present in some scenes. Aside from that, the ERS artistic team is very gifted when it comes to creating the characters in their games and brings them to life so that they don’t appear cartoonish and flat, which is one of the reasons that I have always loved ERS games. Where Shadow Wolf Under the Crimson Moon falls short is with the voiceovers, some of which are not very good and not at all typical of what I think the character should sound like. In addition to the out of character voiceovers, ERS has dropped the lip-syncing that made the first Curse of the Full Moon so incredible and elevated ERS to a top-tier game developer. Alas, times seem to be changing and we no longer see the realism that lip-syncing adds to a game. That being said, the remainder of the sound package is very good and has excellent ambient effects.
The game has the tools that we find in most HOPA games with a diary that keeps track of not only our notes but of the evidence we find as well. We have a new tool in this game called an analyzer which we use quite often to identify “unknown” objects. Use of the analyzer is sort of a mini-game each time the unknown object appears. There is a transportable map but it does not indicate areas where you have objectives.
Under the Crimson Moon has a variety of interactive HOPs that are very typical of the types found in most other ERS HOPA games, but recently the developer has added the option of switching to alternative puzzles if you do not want to find items in the HOPs. The optional puzzle in this game is a match type puzzle reminiscent of a flow type game. Some of the puzzles I encountered in the game can be frustrating if you don’t take the time to really think about them. Since demo time is limited, I generally skip puzzles that I can’t immediately solve so that I don’t waste valuable gameplay time. That being said, most of the puzzles are the type that I enjoy.
For me the CE version of Under the Crimson Moon was an immediate purchase and as I played the game I found myself being captured by the mystery and the gameplay: this is a game that I enjoyed from beginning to end, and I am now eagerly looking forward to the next game in one of my favorite series. I have no hesitation in saying that this game is a step up from more recent offerings from this developer and recommend that you at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will like.
I recommend this game!

The Story begins with finding a priceless artifact and then a murder. It looks like we are in for a great ride with this exciting new adventure in the Hidden Expedition series. Hidden Expedition The Crown of Solomon is a tale of treachery, loaded with mystery and secret agents. Are you up to the challenge to solve the mystery of The Crown of Solomon?
The graphics are very good but for some reason the graphic artists have chosen to use that misty wash that I don’t like. With a game from EIPIX we always know that the sound package will be awesome and Crown of Solomon is no exception.
Your H.E.L.P. box contains your video messages, fact cards, and a section that shows your achievements. You have an interactive map that can be quite helpful.
I am not going to go into all the HOPs but will note that you should keep your eyes open. Discovery is half the fun – right. I happen to like the HOPs that EIPIX includes in their games since there is always a lot of variety. As for the puzzles, they are good and my favorite part of all HOPA games. EIPIX does not disappoint with the variety and number of puzzles included. Some are easy but others can be a bit tricky.
If you are looking for a game with great CE content this is the game for you. We have 44 crowns to find and 12 morphing objects and some of them are tough to find. Of course there are achievements to earn but I don’t care so much about those since most of them are gameplay based and there are some I will never earn – lol. One of the extras I enjoy most is the opportunity to replay some of the puzzles. Throw in the Souvenir Room, pictures and the Strategy Guide and you have a CE that is sure to please a variety of gamers.
Overall, this new Hidden Expedition game is wonderful and probably will be my favorite in the series. For me the game was an instant purchase but as always, I recommend that you at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will like.
I recommend this game!

Ah yes, we have yet another story of a parent who disappears under very mysterious and strange circumstances, leaving you to wonder who it is that saved you from the same fate. You want to know the truth about who you are and learn what happened to your mother. As a young adult you happen upon a bookstore and find an old book that you somehow know holds the answers to your past. Intent on having that book, you begin a journey to discover the truth. Even though the story is a familiar one, I like the way this one unfolds and think that it is well worth giving it a try.
Although the graphics are not excellent, they are very good. The game has lip-synced voiceovers that, IMHO, are realist and add a great deal to the enjoyment of the game. The music fits well into the story, and some of the special effects are really good, which enhances an already great sound package. Chronicle Keepers from a developer that I am not familiar with and, although they may be new on the scene, I think based on this offering that they have a bright future in casual gaming ahead.
As far as tools we have the standard journal that keeps track of our progress and a transporter type map. Although the map allows us to travel quickly in the game, it does not provide any extra help so it is virtually useless.
The HOPS are interesting and interactive in that you need to use a special item to locate some objects. Speaking of using a special object, you will find the medallion fragment to be extremely helpful in general, and I automatically used it in any new scene I entered just to see what might be lurking around. I don’t want to give too much away by letting you know the specifics of the HOPS because it is more fun if you discover them on your own. During our adventure we encounter puzzles and many of them are a bit different than the ones we frequently see. The puzzles that I encountered during the demo were the deciding factor that led me to purchase the game.
Although the game may have originally started out to be a CE, it was released in a SE version. As a result, we do find objects to collect as we make our way through the story. As a tip, although I don’t generally use the tutorial, I would suggest that for this game you do consider going through those annoying pop-up arrows in the beginning of the game since they do provide you with some helpful information that you need to navigate the game.
Chronicle Keepers the Dreaming Garden is a surprise gem of a game that I found very impressive. Overall, even though the game is not CE quality it comes very close – throw in the strategy guide, and the game would be on par with many CEs. For me the game is a must have but, as always, I recommend that you at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will like.
I recommend this game!

Our detective friend James from the last Haunted Hotel is back and this time we are off to help a hotel owner solve the mystery of his vanishing guests. The game starts in the same way as almost every other Elephant game with the proverbial suitcase that is missing a key, which when opened leads to a hidden object scene. Once we are in the hotel we meet Mr. Shadowy (an ominous sounding name) who is acting rather strange and we are left on our own to investigate. Hmmm, what strange and mysterious things are going on and what will we find within the hidden rooms of Haunted Hotel?
The graphics are excellent and I would expect nothing less from this developer. It is interesting that the beginning cutscene had lip-synced voiceovers but then they disappeared as we got into the game itself. The thing is (and this is the bad news) that good graphics are just about the only thing this game has going for it.
The gameplay in Haunted Hotel Ancient Bane is very much the same as it is in all games by this developer, so much so that it is quite predictable. The HOS are the same old, same old slightly interactive list type that we find in virtually EVERY game this development team presents and there is nothing new to be found here. I am beginning to think that the well of creative thought has truly dried up at Elephant games. In Haunted Hotel Ancient Bane, we come across HOS scene after scene that I won’t necessarily call junkpiles only because the items are quite nice to look at, but nevertheless the scenes are stuffed with far too many items. Not only are the HOS cluttered, many of them are quite dark as well making it much more difficult to distinguish some items. Then we come to the puzzles or mini games, and again there is nothing new to be found with puzzles that seem very simplistic and easy. There was nothing to challenge my brain and I found the puzzles to be quite ho-hum if not downright boring. Not only were the puzzles quite ho-hum, the developer missed some great opportunities early in the game to integrate puzzles into several areas. Lately, it seems that there must be some simple formula that the Elephant team uses when developing its games, which includes nothing new or creative - only the basics. I might sound a bit harsh but when I see a game from Elephant, who is one of the top developers in casual gaming, I expect more and lately it has been missing. There is no wow factor present in more recent games from a team who in the past brought us a stunning game like The Nutcracker.
I purchased the CE version of the game and it had very little in the way of collectibles or anything else that I thought made it CE worthy – only the inclusion of the strategy guide.
As I made my way through the game I found it tedious and slow, in fact the game was so forgettable, I am not sure I finished the original story. The gameplay was just rather mundane and with no challenge in the puzzles, it turned out to be a big disappointment. When one plays as many HOPA games as I do, I like to find something in the way of a storyline or some unique factor that stands out to “ring my bell” but it was not to be found among the crowded rooms of topsy-turvy chairs and floating knives. This Haunted Hotel was lacking in the things that could have made it a great game. The game is not horrible and for many it will be what they are looking for, and if you happen to have a free game credit hanging around, it might be worth using it on this game. Overall I will give the game three stars and those only because of the graphics which are superb. As always, I recommend that you at least try the demo because the game might just be right for you.

When I was little I always looked forward to bedtime when my grandmother would read fairy tales to me as I was falling asleep. The story of Rapunzel, locked in a tower and letting her locks down so that she could meet with her prince, was always one of my favorite tales. As usual Blue Tea has given us their darker spin on a beloved story and now it is a great new game in the Dark Parables series.
Because this is a Blue Tea game, the graphics are beautiful and of excellent quality. The music has the haunting quality that is found in all of the games in the series but that doesn’t matter since I happen to like it and find that it adds to the game.
In the Dark Parables games we don’t really have a journal but you can locate your objectives or current tasks. The map does show where we have something to do and others have commented (in other games in the series) that the maps are transporter type but I have never found that to be true, so either they don’t work on my laptop or they really are not transporter type maps to begin with. At least the map does clearly show where something is to be found or done.
The Dark Parables games are FROG type so the HOS are for locating portions of symbols, medallions or other objects. Although I am not a huge fan of FROGs in general, I do love the ones in games from this developer because the fragments or items to find are always hidden in beautiful scenes. There are puzzles to be found in the game and, IMHO, some of them took a bit of thought and were not overly easy to complete.
For those who love them, there are morphing objects to collect. We also collect flowerstones and then parts of objects that will open mini parables or stories. There is a bonus game but BT games are not overly heavy on CE content in general. Given the beautiful artwork in these games, the wallpapers are must-have items that I will use.
There is much about this game in the beginning that is reminiscent of others in the series. I don’t know if it is because the music is the same but I definitely notice the slight remake of scenery to fit the current game. The one sad thing is that the Dark Parables games have become very predictable and each one is much the same as the others even though the characters and story may be a bit different. As much as I like the FROGs from this developer, I would like to see them branch out and use their skills to develop a different type of game. That being said, I will add this beautiful game to my collection. Because of the quality of the game and because people who are new to playing the Dark Parables series will most likely love the game, I am giving it the five-star rating it deserves. As always, I recommend that you at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will like.

I tried the beta of the game and didn't particularly care for it but there was a great sale the weekend the CE was released so I decided to go ahead and get the game. Wow, I am sure happy that I didn't pass this one up. It takes a bit to really get into but it is such a great game when it gets going,
Now, others have complained about the angel giggling but she only does that when the hint button recharges. I have hardly heard her giggle at all in the game but if you do use the hint button a lot, you will get that little giggle to let you know the button is ready once again. That being said, given the subject of the game, the devs could really have passed on the angel as cute as she is.
The game is a bit challenging and one or two of the puzzles took quite a bit of time to solve, one of them due to figuring out the mechanics. I like a game with challenge that doesn't make it too easy to figure out and this game has what I love. I found that the game is quite a long and I actually kept notes on where things were needed since there are so many different portals that we go through. The whole game took me over three days to complete and I was more amazed at how great the game is by the time I reached the end.
Unfortunately, there are two things that I do not like about the game and I really think the devs should consider in future games. The most significant item is that all puzzles must have a reset button. I ended up skipping one puzzle simply because I could not reset it and it seemed like too much work to keep going once I created a mess. The other item is that with a game as involved as this one, and maybe I have become a tad bit spoiled, is that the map does not show where there are active tasks. With so many locations to visit and a lot of backtracking required, it is very time consuming to figure out where something I saw early in the game and then totally forgot about where it is located. Please devs consider adding reset buttons to your puzzles and available task indicators to the map.
Aside from the two issues mentioned above, I love the game and think it is so excellent. I can recommend without hesitation that you at least give it a try.
I recommend this game!

Yes, once again we have a game about the struggle between good and evil, darkness and light but, IMHO, in Reflections of Life Tree of Dreams the storyline is excellent and put together in a way that captured my interest. I’m not going to give a recap of the story since I think it is up to you to discover but I will say we have a game with parallel worlds and some beautiful locations to visit as we challenge the dark forces that surround us.
The graphics are very good and the artwork is excellent and creates the beautiful fantasy worlds that I love to see in games. We also have lip-synced voiceovers that are quite realistic.
You have a journal but it is not the type I like since most of it is done with video clips that need to be replayed. I happen to like the interactive transporter map in Tree of Life. It is very interactive and not only does it show where you have tasks available, it also allows you to zoom into different areas. This is a great way to do a map because we have a lot of territory to cover.
The HOPs in the demo are the standard list type with some easy extra steps to find incomplete or hidden items. The good thing is that if you don’t want to search for items on the list, you have the option of switching to a match 3 game. The puzzles are mostly the type we have seen before, but realistically how many different types of puzzles can a developer come up with that we haven’t already encountered in one game or another. Most of the puzzles are very easy but once in a while you will encounter one that takes a bit more thought to solve. It doesn’t bother me that some of the puzzles are quite easy because they are still entertaining and fit into the story.
As you travel through your adventure you will collect leaves, some of which are extremely well hidden. I don’t want to spoil your fun so I won’t say more about the leaves except to note that some of them are difficult to find. Along with the task of finding multiple leaves in each scene, there are other collectibles to find as well. There is nothing else too exceptional in the CE package except that along with the bonus game we also have a SECRET GAME. Yippee – I love those.
Although we have seen the storyline done before, I liked Reflections of Life Tree of Dreams since it was artistically beautiful and held my attention throughout the demo. By the time the demo ended, I was ready to buy the game knowing that it is one I want for my CE collection. As always, I recommend that you at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will like.
I recommend this game!

You play the game again as Senorita Adams a renowned detective who has been personally selected by the governor to handle a curious murder case. The governor definitely suspects foul play but he requests your utmost discretion in dealing with the case since he doesn’t want to cause a panic in his town. Upon further investigation it seems that the governor is correct and it’s not too long before your simple case becomes much more mysterious and dangerous. I need to make a comment here about something I noticed right off the bat. I begin the game with a bit of confusion as to my marital status since Governor Vega refers to me as both senorita and madam. This is not a big deal but it indicates the lack of editing in the dialog.
The graphics are okay but overall a huge disappointment for a game from this developer, and although there are lip-synced voice overs, I don’t care for the voices or the contrived accents. OMG, the overly dramatic young woman in one scene was almost too much. The fact that I had to listen to her sob in the background as I searched the area was a bit overwhelming to say the least. Wow, this may be one of my first disappointments in a game from EIPIX.
In Sea of Lies Nemesis, we find the standard tools that are in every HOPA game. There is a journal that keeps track of the story and contains our objectives. We also have an interactive, transporter type map that indicates where we have tasks to accomplish. Another tool we find during our adventure is an evidence dusting case. As we move through the game we will come across items that need to be “dusted” and this is where our trusty evidence kit comes in handy.
There seems to be far higher ratio of HOPs to puzzles in this game than I like. That being said, the HOPs are very interactive and almost mini-puzzles in themselves. However, one of the things that I did not like about the HOPs is that some items were very difficult to find since I couldn’t determine what they should be to begin with, particularly in the HOP where items to find were displayed on gold coins. If you don’t want to or can’t locate items, you have the option switch to a colorful match 3 game. Although I didn’t encounter that many puzzles to solve in the demo, the puzzles were actually quite good and some of them a little tricky, so that is a mark on the plus side for the game.
There are treasure chests to find located throughout the game and although some of them are easy to find, some of them are quite well hidden. We also have gameplay based achievements to earn, which I don’t care about since I never can earn all of them. Aside from the bonus game we have some extra games and searches along with the standard fluff that we have come to expect in CEs.
I’m still trying to decide if this is one of those games that improve or if it will end up being a huge disappointment in the end. I would like to give the developer the benefit of doubt but given the less than wonderful graphics and the absolutely awful voiceovers, I have a feeling that I might well decide to pass up on this game. I am giving the game a fairly high-star rating since there is quite a bit of variety in the game and many of you will find the gameplay to be quite enticing given the multi-level HOPs; however, I found it a bit too monotonous and mechanical to be truly enjoyable. As always, I recommend that you at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will like.

When Dreampath the Two Kingdoms began with a flat and cartoonish cutscene I was a bit dismayed and my initial reaction was that I would not like the game. However, the graphics improved very quickly and I found myself entranced by the story of a magical elixir of life and the golden dragon.
After the disappointing initial cutscene, the graphics improved with beautiful artwork that brings the fantasy world of the Two Kingdoms to life. The game is absolutely gorgeous and a feast for the eyes! The voiceovers are very good and seem quite in character, and the developer did make an attempt at lip-syncing the characters even though the final outcome was not great. Overall the soundtrack, including the music and environmental effects is very good and I found it quite enjoyable without being intrusive.
As in most HOPA games you have the standard tools including a diary that contains your notes and an interactive transporter map that indicates where you have tasks to accomplish. Early on you will a acquire an animal helper – a sure sign that this game has been in production for quite a long time since many of us have long since tired of all the games that included the “fur factor.” Oh well, Muir is here, and at least he can help us in tricky situations. One of the things I liked, since I play demos on the easiest mode of play, is the “noticeable” lack of sparkles. Once I purchase a game I play on the hardest level and oftentimes, in fact almost always, the developers include far too many tip-off sparkles and it is quite refreshing that we are not overwhelmed by them in Two Kingdoms.
I’m not going to mention a lot about the HOPs other than to note that there is a good variety with some being the standard interactive list type. The items were easy to find and I didn’t think the scenes were overly stuffed with items to sort through. Some of the puzzles are familiar but others are a bit different and not what we generally see in almost all HOPA games. I didn’t find any of the puzzles too difficult but then they were not extremely simple either so I found them quite entertaining.
There are collectible valuable coins to be found scattered around the “kingdom” that will be used later in the game. There are also the standard insane gameplay based achievements to be earned, although in this game are not impossible. There is the expected bonus game PLUS we have a “secret game” that is unlocked after we finish the bonus. All in all the extras found in Two Kingdoms are worthy of the CE label.
Although the game seemed to start out a bit slow, by the time I was near to the end of the demo, I was hooked and really wanted to find out what was hidden beneath the surface in the tale of the Two Kingdoms. Taking into account that the story was wrapped up in a graphically beautiful package, it was a no-brainer for me to hit the buy button since I knew I would need to solve the mystery and save the queen. As always, I recommend that you at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will like.

First things first, so let me say that I absolutely love the reality of this game and the way it is presented. I think that our friends at Elephant Games have topped themselves with this one. The game begins with a tragedy, the loss of your niece Elizabeth McGray, with her brother being charged in her murder. The adventure begins as you, a psychic detective and the aunt of James and Elizabeth, arrive at James’ trial. The game is presented in retrospective where you will be able to examine evidence and find clues within different scenes to provide insight to the court for use during the proceedings. Again, I must say that I love the way the game is presented. This game in the Grim Tales series is without a doubt my favorite.
The graphics are wonderful and so realistic. The characters finally are lip-synced and add so much to the power of this version in the Grim Tales series. It seems the creative team at Elephant has really stepped up their, ahem, game – lol. All joking aside, the sound track for the game is excellent and I am just thrilled to see one of my favorite developers present such a wonderful game.
On the lower right side of your screen right above the menu button you have a book that when clicked contains your diary and transporter type interactive map as well as other items.
As is the case in all games by this developer, we only seem to find the standard, slightly interactive list type which is okay with me. Sometimes the HOS in games become tedious because way too much interaction is required. The puzzles are not hard and some are a bit different but still doable if you take the time to think about them.
As you can tell by my comments above, I love this game and for me the CE was an instant purchase. I was not thrilled with the last Grim Tales game so this is a wonderful and refreshing game. Thank you to Elephant Games for a wonderful addition to the Grim Tales series and kudos for your creativity – this is a wonderful game. As I mentioned earlier, Grim Tales the Vengeance is an instant buy for me but I always recommend that you at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will like.
I recommend this game!
