Review based on completed game (around 40 hours of play)
WORLD MOSAICS is the first in a series and it consists of nonograms divided into 2 menu sections; both have the following characteristics in common:
- No difficulty setting
- You solve in monochrome, but the image will become colorful, with a label once resolved, and quite recognizable especially once converted into a thumbnail
- There is a clock showing time spent, but there is NO LIMIT or penalty
- You don’t “earn” anything other than opening additional grids once solved; no stars, no points, no coins, nothing to buy or upgrade
- You are allowed a certain number of mistakes and hints before failing a grid
- You cannot save your progress while in that grid but your progress is saved once solved; you can replay any previously solved grid to improve your performance
- There is no “cell counter” as you drag
- There ARE crosshairs that highlight row/column as you move your pointer
- Numbers in borders will be crossed off one by one when you’ve resolved from an edge of the grid
Menu Option 1: “Story mode”, which will open the “Extra Puzzles” section as progress is made. It has a narrative for each grid once resolved; there are 8 sets based on geographic map locations:
- Location 1: “Tutorial” (6 grids 5x5 plus 2 grids 10x10)
- Location 2: “Greece” (14 grids 10x10)
- Location 3: “Egypt” (12 grids 10x10 plus 2 grids 15x15)
- Location 4: “India” (14 grids 15x15)
- Location 5: “Japan” (14 grids 15x15)
- Location 6: “Mexico” (14 grids 15x15)
- Location 7: “Native Americans” (14 grids 20x20)
- Location 8: “Atlantis” (7 grids 20x20)
In summary, 99 grids (6 5x5, 28 10x10, 44 15x15, 21 20x20)
Menu Option 2: “Extra Puzzles”, which has sets based on themes instead of geographic/map locations, distributed as follows:
- Set 1: “Electronics” (5 grids 10x10)
- Set 2: “Emotions” (14 grids 10x10)
- Set 3: “Food” (14 grids 15x15)
- Set 4: “Sports” (14 grids 15x15)
- Set 5: “Fashion” (14 grids 15x15)
- Set 6: “Music” (14 grids 20x20)
- Set 7: “Dogs” (14 grids 20x20)
- Set 8: “Sea Life” (14 grids 20x20)
In summary, 103 grids (19 10x10, 42 15x15, 42 20x20)
I found the challenge level went up significantly starting with Location 6, Grid E. I was able to solve 197 of the 202 puzzles using ONLY logic; no guessing, not making any mistake, not implying due to symmetry... I just couldn’t do it in 5 grids: 6N, 7N, 8A, X4L and X7N, which I solved after using 1 hint each; I even tried those a 2nd time but I still couldn’t be certain of the solution without a hint or perhaps making a mistake... you might have better success!
Played the game using my Windows 10 PC without any issue.
I recommend this game!

Review based on completed game (around 5.5 hours of play); there is no setting for difficulty.
The edition of DREAMLAND offered by BFG is the “extended” version, offered at the SE price. It has an extra location (cemetery) and plenty of extra tasks to perform. It is a sequel to the main story and omitted from the blog walkthrough.
Overall, there are very few interruptions/cutscenes during play. The graphics reflect the age of the game (2011?) but are overall interesting and slightly creepy... well accompanied by the music. The jumpmap is very helpful and accelerates the frequent back and forth between locations.
You’re basically exploring an amusement park. Most of the HO scenes are crisp and original; there are 2 that could use improvement: the “café” could be better lit, and the scene in the ceiling of the merry-go-round could be much less cluttered.
Many of today’s HOPA games include morphing objects; there are none of those in DREAMLAND, but you will get an award if you find the 20 starfish and another award if you find all 17 of your brother’s marbles; the former are fairly easy to find if you pay attention from the very beginning, while the marbles are somewhat harder.
The minigames vary greatly in difficulty: some are very easy while a few (e.g. constructing the robot in the Moon Rocket and placing the 7 doves in the Cemetery) stumped me for a while, probably adding 30 minutes to my gameplay; because I took more than 5 hours to complete the game, I didn’t win 1 of the awards.
Not a fantastic game, but certainly enjoyable; there are many locations in the park, most are revisited more than twice and the same is true for the HO games but they will require completely different finds.
I played the game on my Windows 10 PC without any glitch.
I recommend this game!

When I reviewed the CE version, I wasn't sure whether the extra content was worth double the price of the SE.
I've now made up my mind: I'm getting the CE (maybe I'll wait for the next BOGO sale... maybe not).
There are a few facts that tipped the scales for me:
- The CE has 2 parks to explore, not just 1 (double the fun!)
- The CE has an "extreme" mode where you have to find ALL the items in the scene, not just the ones chosen randomly as in the SE (so that means about double the number of items in each scene!)
- The CE has bonus "puzzles" (no, I don't mean the minigames between levels) for those like me who like jigsaw puzzles, brain teasers like tile swapping to recreate images, etc.
Regardless of the edition you choose, hours of fun are coming your way... assuming you're like me and enjoyed the previous ones in the series!!!
I recommend this game!

… that you can only play using a lot of those little grey cells.
I played about 30 minutes of THROUGH ABANDONED and reached the point where I was able to open what looked like a "dumb waiter"; I have no idea how much progress that represents in the 1st of 3 chapters, but I suspect very little.
This is one of those brain teaser games like "LEAVES" that people either love or hate; here, your main assistance comes in the form of the pointer changing into a hand, but that's not always enough because it doesn't always do that (like when you have to use the pickaxe to break down a wall or oil the wheel of the wagon).
It's the kind of game that will get frustrating if/when you get stuck, not knowing what the next task is; during my trial, I navigated a lot to find something I need to use in a scene I already went through.
I like these "puzzle" games, but this one would have been better for me if it had 2 additional features:
1) a map; I get lost pretty easily in a maze and this game seems to require a lot of back and forth between multiple choices of travel;
2) a better hint system than simply highlighting my traveling options; I don't want to have to stop playing or browse the internet to get unstuck.
You'll need to take notes and/or rely on your memory as you will revisit scenes that were "incomplete" the first ago around (you'll see how many extra tasks you'll then be able to perform after finding an item so you can make progress).
I predict reviews will be at both ends of the spectrum; I liked it, but I'd need those 2 features before I'd buy.
I recommend this game!

I've only "encountered" these devs in their "Snow White Solitaire" games. But because this is a nonogram-type game, it goes into the "gotta buy this" pile.
The puzzles are multi-colored, the colors are vibrant, I can choose the color I'm working with, the pictures are labeled once completed, I can choose the pattern of the tiles, it counts the tiles as I drag, I can cancel an action, there's no time limit... what more do I need?
It even has stuff that's not "critical" to me: seems to have a story, I earn stars based on quality of play, I earn coins to "decorate" a room.
I had to deduct 1 star for 1 reason: the contrast between the numbers on the edges and the picture in the background is sometimes too low... enhancing the risk for error; it's nice that the numbers are shown in the same color as the paint I chose, but...
Are all levels based on logic alone? Too early to tell as I didn't finish all the levels (yet!); but that's what I'll be trying to do next!
I recommend this game!

Review based on the completed game in “Normal” mode; there’s also a “casual” mode.
This was the 1st game of the series to be available as a Collector's Edition (CE) . "THE GOBLIN KINGDOM" continues the story where "MOONFELL WOOD" stopped; it is very similar in gameplay: the graphics are clear and colorful, the HO scenes interesting as they are not repetitive.
It took me about 5 and a half hours to complete the main game, plus 1 and a half hour to complete the bonus chapter (epilogue), so around 7 hours in total (no hints, no skipping dialogues or minigames). The mini-games are not as "cryptic" as in the previous game and represent a diversity of styles. Note that I'm not racing thru scenes: I take a few seconds to have a look around.
As in earlier games, the music is quite nice and relaxing, exempt of violence, gore or evil spirits. We encounter various goblins for different purposes while the story evolves and travel on a unicorn instead of a gryphon.
The game has no map, but none is necessary: very little back and forth overall. There are achievements you can attain, and I admit I missed the very first one (and therefore the one awarded when you get ALL achievements); you might want to read them before you start playing as I didn't do that.
I enjoyed the game which, once completed, unlocks the "tangram" extras: there are 7 sets of 5 rounds: 1 set for each mode of casual / normal / experienced, each in basic and advanced difficulties, plus the 5 already played during the game, for a total of 35. The playtime above does NOT include the time I spent on these.
Overall, I had fun playing "THE GOBLIN KINGDOM" which was released back in 2011; I had no issues whatsoever playing the game on my Windows 10 PC.
The story continues in the 4th game, "THE SKYWARD CASTLE".
I suggest you try the game for a few minutes: it will give you a good sample of the overall experience.
I recommend this game!

Review based on 1-hour trial
From the same folks that bring us the "CURSED HOUSE" and "LARUAVILLE" games comes the yearly installment of "SPELLARIUM". Those 3, along with "JEWEL MATCH", are my favorite match-3 series... they allow you to choose your difficulty index, and contain creative boards, obstacles and targets.
The user's guide in the top left corner is an essential read to understand how each tile type (whether obstacle or power-up) needs to be dealt with and/or behaves.
It's very similar to LARUAVILLE but the devs always introduce a "little something" new with each release. This is a purchase for me!
Try it: you'll see how distinctive the tiles are, and how quickly you'll get addicted to what appears to be another fantastic game!
I recommend this game!

Review based on the completed game in “Normal” mode; there’s also a “casual” mode.
"Awakening: Moonfell Wood" was only released as a standard edition (SE), and I found it to be an improvement, in many ways, to the 1st installment (“Dreamless Castle”); note that it is a sequel to the 1st game.
It took me double the time to complete this game: around 6 and a half hours (no hints, no skipping dialogues or minigames). I admit I was stuck on a couple of minigames, so you might finish in about 5 and a half. As usual, I didn't rush through it... I find that to be long for a SE.
The music is quite nice and relaxing, and I applaud the LACK of violence, gore or evil spirits: it plays out in a fantasy world with fairies and goblins... You even get to make a griffin/gryphon purr!
As in the 1st game, the graphics are very colorful and the HO scenes are clear. The “hint” system has improved, and the story develops logically; there is a little bit of back and forth between some scenes as you’ll need to find some cards and place them on an “altar”; the flow is not as “strict” as it was in “Dreamless Castle” but there’s still no map.
For the most part, the minigames are based on 3 genres: rotate/swap “pieces” to recreate a picture, assemble fragments to rebuild an object, and the “association” genre (e.g. matching pairs, find commonality/organize things): I think some instructions could have been better on the latter because if you don’t “get it”, you can “waste” time... but I don’t mind: there are actually adventure games out there where you need to think “outside the box”. Overall, I found a few of those far from obvious.
Once the game is over, you unlock the bonus of 50 levels of solitaire (named “tripeaks”, but they really aren’t per se): they are organized in 10 sets of 5 levels each: the first set is called “Story Mode Classics”, followed by 4 “One Deck” sets (Casual, Normal, Hard and Challenge), then 4 “Two Decks” sets (Casual, Normal, Hard and Challenge) and to top it off, 1 set called “Veteran’s Challenge” (where the waste piles go from 6 down to 3). You need to win a level to unlock the next, but you can replay them (they change!). My playtime of 6.5 hours does NOT include the time I spent on those; I had to replay many a couple of times to succeed.

Overall, "Moonfell Wood" is an enjoyable game from 2011; I had no issues on my Windows 10 PC.
Try it for 15 minutes: it will give you a good sample of the overall experience.
Now I'm moving on to the next installment: the Collector’s Edition of "The Goblin Kingdom". Can't wait!
I recommend this game!

I have all the previous installments of this series, as well as the 5 "Cruise Director" releases; most people that enjoy this genre do too... they are VERY well made and fun to play.
However, this is the 1st game released in Collectors' Edition (CE) format, and after looking at the "extras", it looks like I'll be waiting for the Standard Edition (in the hopes there will be one!): it's a personal opinion, but extras like wallpapers and music don't interest me enough to pay twice the price; the extra minigames do help a bit, but if I knew there are plenty more levels/scenes in the CE version, that would tip the scales.
Well done as always in this series, but I'll wait for the SE release to see the difference... perhaps it'll be good enough.
I recommend this game!

Review based on the trial.
CLEARIT 5 is one of those games like QUADRIUM that combines brain teaser and marble popping genres.
The boards increase in difficulty from 2 colors up to 7 colors, and I admit that the boards just seem similar to other editions; feels like if you have 1 game, you have them all. Some people think that of nonogram-type games =D
This isn't my favorite genre, and this edition is not going to convert me: for instance, I'd prefer it if I could get crosshairs (e.g. highlight the row and column of the target) when selecting a stone; I would also like the colors to be more apart in the spectrum: even on the 2-color levels, the combination of lemon yellow and apple green is just un-appealing to me, combined with an hexagonal 3D effect?!? Why not red with green, or yellow with purple? Better yet, why not let the player choose the colors they prefer?
Make sure you bring up the help screen at first so you can see what the power-ups do: that'll improve your odds of success! I'm sure this will please many players who can't get enough of these games and keep them playing for hours. I also like that in the upper-hand corner you can see how many stones you have left to remove before being able to advance to the next level: at first, it doesn't have to be all of them!
Try it for yourself: you can even try the 1st level of the 7-color boards to get a sense of eventual difficulty. Fairly well done, just not a game for me.
I recommend this game!
