The graphics, storyline, v/o etc. are all fine, but not fabulous. The preview ended after 27 minutes, so I wasn't able to play for the full hour. But I guess that's ok, because this game is sort of forgettable. It's the type of game I might buy if I had a free game coupon and time to kill. It's a CE game, but it plays more like a standard edition, and not worth the CE price, in my opinion. There's nothing really wrong with it, it's just ordinary and includes elements I've seen in a lot of other games. Nothing really compelling about it.
I don't recommend this game.

I knew after just a few minutes of playing the demo that this was a keeper. The graphics are gorgeous, the story grabbed me right away, the voiceovers were professional and synched nicely with the characters. The music is just right and not intrusive or annoying. There is a nice balance of adventure/quest, HOS, and puzzles. I played in casual mode, which was just the right amount of difficulty for me. More advanced players can choose from two other modes. When you use a hint, you see a picture of where you're supposed to go for the next step, and when you click on the picture, it takes you there. I loved that. There is also a map, which shows you places where you could go to take action. The HOS were varied and interactive, which made them more interesting, including some in which you find the objects and then return them to their proper place in another HOS. The story and overall 'feel' of this game is very 'Lord of the Rings.' If you like that kind of fantasy quest good against evil type of story like I do, you'll love this game!
I recommend this game!

It starts with a well written, interesting story that brings you in right away and gives you a quest--return the ancient artifacts of the gods to save the city. The v/o and music/sound are high quality and the graphics are pleasing and sharp. This is a combination of match 3, HOS, and scenes where you restore found objects to the scene, which makes it really interesting. The power ups carry over from board to board, giving you an additional opportunity to use strategy in your gameplay, and the boards get progressively harder as you go along. The levels are timed, but you get plenty of it. And once you've dropped the items down off the board the round is over, so you don't feel rushed. I got a real sense of progression and achievement as I went along, which makes me want to keep playing to get to the next level and restore the next artifact. The story is woven into the gameplay so you also learn about Greek gods and heroes while you play. I happen to like that, but you can also just click past it if you don't. This is a definite buy for me!
I recommend this game!

The opening of this game made me think it might be better suited for children, as the artwork and storyline reminded me of a children's book. So I gave it a shot with that in mind. But after playing it, I realized that it's just underdeveloped. The "bones" of the game are there--you match three tiles on a screen--but there are no added layers that make it engrossing and addicting for the player. I didn't get any sense of achievement, the music was annoying and didn't seem to fit the theme of the game, and things you expect from a match 3, like special power-ups if you match 5 or 6 at a time weren't there. I liked that the power-ups accumulated from board to board, but that's about it. There are 3 levels of gameplay, but the only difference was the number of items you had to match at a time. There was just not enough to this game to keep playing and I quit after 8 minutes. I gave it 2 stars because someone who just wants to play board after board of straight match 3 may like this, but it wasn't enough for me.
I don't recommend this game.

I am a fan of the Castle television show, so I was interested to try this game. I was happily surprised at how much I liked it overall. Other games I've tried that are based on TV shows (like Criminal Minds and CSI) were disappointing and sort of boring. This game is very true to the style of writing, characters, and plot of the Castle show, which as a fan I am predisposed to like, so that was smart on the developer's part. The artwork is great too. Most of the characters actually look like the actors who play them in the show, which adds to the authenticity and enjoyment for me. I also liked the pace of the game. When there is a new task, the map takes you there right away, so you don't have to backtrack and click, click, click to get to new locations. There is a good mix of HOG and puzzles which held my interest and weren't too difficult in the "easy" mode, which is what I chose. The only thing that would have made the game better for me would have been live action cut scenes and voiceover. The story is told in still shots of the characters with text on the screen, which nowadays seems kind of old school for game development. That said, my review is based on the demo, so I will be buying this game to see how Castle and Beckett solve the murder mystery!
I recommend this game!

I played the entire demo and bought the game right away. It's deceptively simple at first, but becomes more difficult the more levels you play. The game boards become more varied and it takes longer to make all the matches. That said, it's not as complicated and difficult as some M3 games I play, but it's fun. I can see this being especially good for those who are just venturing into the M3 games. It's challenging, but not too hard. There is some variety, with a HOS every so often and some critters that invade the screen that you shoot for extra points. These, by the way, become faster as you play so they are a bit harder to shoot. The story is ok, but sort of superfluous. And the translation is a bit awkward, like it was written by someone for whom English is a second language. But in this game, you don't really need to story to have fun with it. It's an enjoyable way to pass a little time with some mild to moderate challenge.
I recommend this game!

It took only 10 minutes of playing the demo for me to buy this next game in the Awakening series. I have them all, and it didn't take long to see that this one is just as good as the rest. Gorgeous artwork, wonderful voiceovers, beautiful, haunting music. The story draws you in and transports you into Princess Sophia's world. You want to keep playing to see what happens next as she seeks to be reunited with her family and defeat the Shadow. She has a few helpers, the baby dragon and the owl, who accompany her on the journey and assist her along the way. The gameplay is not super hard, so most of the tasks, HOS, and mini-games don't require lots of hints or skips (so far anyway). The game has a nice summary of the story thus far, so if you're new the series, you can play this one without having played the rest. But you may find you want them all! Kudos to BoomZap for the quality and attention to detail it puts into these games. Beautifully done and very enjoyable to play.
I recommend this game!

This is one of those great games that is well done, not too difficult, and just a fun way to pass some time. It has an interesting, brief storyline that sets up the game that reminded me a little bit of Tomb Raider and Jewel Quest. The game itself is a combination of match 3, puzzle, and search. You can play the M3 either by switching tiles or creating groups, and there are other features common to M3 games, like matching 5 tiles activates a "bomb" tile. You have to make a certain number of matches to get the key that unlocks the board (which finishes the round), but what's different about this game is that the board moves as you make matches, so you have to navigate back to the keyhole in order to use the key once you have it. Reminded me of the way the 4 Elements gameboards move. It was fun. There's also a mini-map in the upper right that shows you where you are in relation to the keyhole. The puzzle games are straighforward. The pieces are out of order and you click to match the right piece in the right spot to complete the picture underneath and in the search game you're shown a small section of the picture and you have to click on where it appears in the bigger picture. I've played other games where these are much more difficult, and really enjoyed being able to find things more quickly. Overall, an enjoyable game to pass the time that has variety, and is not so hard that it gets frustrating. It's a "buy it" for me.
I recommend this game!

I liked a lot about this game. The story was intriguing, engaging, and creepy--all without being based on demons or the occult, which is a plus for me. The opening was fantastic and the cut scenes are a mix of live actor and comic book drawings, which I thought was interesting. There are three game modes, and thank goodness I chose the easiest one, because I almost wore out the hint button (which charges quickly). This was one of those games where it just didn't click for me what I was supposed to do next, so I kept taking hints so I would know where to go or what to do. More expert gamers will likely not have that problem. There is a good mix of tasks, mini-game, and HOS, but I found the HOS a little frustrating. The artwork is gorgeous, but some of the items are so blended into other items or the background that it is almost impossible to find them, so after a few of them, it became a little tedious. That said, another interesting feature of this game is that I sometimes had to return to a completed HOS to find a single item that I needed to complete a task much later in the game. The live action sequences aren't always convincing, but that's a small thing. I started with the preview and bought it right away because I was so interested to see how it ended. Overall, a good game.
I recommend this game!

I may have given this game another star if it didn't remind me so much of an equally poor P&P-based game that came out not too long ago. This one is just marginally better. The artwork here is nicer and the characters are more attractive, but it's slow-moving and boring. Plus, I'm just not sure why you would create a game based on P&P with no voiceover. The story is dialog driven, so if you don't have recorded voices, you lose any sense of the story moving forward. And you are forced to continue to click through dialogue. How about an animated adventure game with multiple characters (major and minor), British voices, lush artwork, and a compelling story? Be true to the original but be inventive with the storyline and tasks. There is so much content to work with, but so little done with it. I quit before the trial was over on this one. I don't recommend it.
