There is a nominal story here, but it's in the background and not that engaging. The gameplay is pretty dry. This isn't an adventure filled with puzzles. It's pretty much just hidden object scenes.
There are some new twists, however. Finding objects gets you points, which you can spend on tools that provide hints or more points. When and which to buy become part of your strategy. There is also an extensive award board- for finding so many items in so much time, for not using hints, for finding bonus items, etc.
If you just want HOS, this is your game. If you're more interested in story, characters and atmosphere, it's probably not.

The theme of this game is definitely girly. Flowers, fairies and unicorns abound. But the design and illustrations are nicely done and not cloying-cute, so the girly factor isn't a turn off.
Most mini-games are simple (such as matching pairs of objects, simple color mixing), as they should be for the younger set, but not boringly simplistic. A few are actually rather challenging. Puzzles and tasks are straight-forward, with ample clues and not much back-and-forth looking for items. Generally, items needed for a task or puzzle are found in the same room as the puzzle. There seems to be no over-click penalty.
There is no task list to refer to, but the simplicity of the tasks mean that such a list is not really missed. Gameplay hints are pretty unhelpful, as they are not contextual but simply seem to point out areas of interest (which you've probably already found yourself).

The gameplay is fun and the visuals are cohesive throughout the game. However, I found the story a bit convoluted and confusing, and never got entirely engrossed. Many overlapping puzzles got a bit confusing, too, with many objects in my inventory and no idea what to do with most of them. Still, a fun play.
I recommend this game!

This is no two-hour game. It goes on and on. There are major quests, minor quests, optional quests, routine maintenance, and secret quests to keep you busy for a week or more. The level of challenge rises pretty steadily throughout the game, with a few challenges excitingly tough.
One warning: REMEMBER TO SAVE! This game does not automatically save progress, which many of us are used to now.
The wild west flavor is fun and adds flavor to the game. Some of the NPC quotes are quite funny. Definitely worth the price, hands down. I highly recommend it.

The atmosphere is great, with a strong continuity of design and music that really adds to the experience. Puzzles are layered, with many tasks overlapping each other. This can get a little confusing at times, and there is no easy way to check on a list of current tasks. There are no gameplay hints, which I'm not crazy about, but that's explained by there being a "Collector's Edition" version with a strategy guide being the inducement to spend the extra cash.
Minigames can be challenging but are logical and fair. Hidden object scenes, however, are not always fair. Among the misidentified objects are "thread" which actually turns out to be a ball of yarn and, inexplicably, "2 axes" which are actually a hammer and a butcher's knife. These kind of faults add frustration to an otherwise wonderful game.

This game gets it right with great atmosphere and visuals. It has the balance I like, being primarily a puzzle/adventure game with hidden object scenes playing a supporting role and furthering the adventure. I like that there is an easily referenced list of current tasks and there are game-play hints available. Puzzles and mini-games are on the easy side, but still interesting to play.
The minor flaws are beefs I have with many hidden object games. Some items are, in my opinion, too well hidden. A "violet flower" is rendered with only the stem visible. Also, a few objects are incorrectly identified, which always drives me nuts. An hidden object "cup" is actually a metal flask, and a "pumpkin" is, in fact, a squash.

The game has a good, illustrative look that is carried well throughout the game. Sounds and "special effects" give a good spooky atmosphere from time to time. Grammatical and spelling mistakes are a little distracting, but all-in-all not too noticeable. The story is a little spotty, but has a great twist. Game play is fun, but not being able to pick up special items until you need them I find rather annoying. Overall a good, fun game with a pleasantly unusual visual theme.

This is top-notch in visuals, with an understated, lovely soundtrack. The game is long and somewhat complex, which I think is great. The puzzles/mini-games are a challenging enough to be fun, but solved every one without a problem and most all fairly quickly. Definitely one of the better games.
