Imagine, in between paying bills and walking the dogs, I get to save the world from a computer virus originating in Montana. What's not to like?
Well, really the story didn't appeal to me that much, but since it was Eipix, it's hard to pass up. They have a good rep for originality, creativity and design, plus very good puzzles and CE bling.
The challenge was decent enough, and I liked most of the puzzles for being new, original, and head-scratching. Yes, you've seen some before, but not all. HO scenes are varied so it doesn't become find this, find that.
If you miss the collectible globes you can go back and find them in the extras menu. Also, if you miss a morph, you can go back and replay the HO scene in the extras and snatch it up. I'm also a sucker for the souvenir room, which is like a mini-collectible extra.
The bonus game is about an hour long and unrelated to the main story. Is this game worth a CE? It is to me because I like all of Eipix' CE bling, the morphs, the collectibles, the achievements, etc. If it doesn't mean that much to you, perhaps you should wait for the SE.
Based on the main game only, because it's unlikely I'll do the bonus.
I always like MT games, but in this one, well, I guess I was expecting, you know, a Mystery. There really isn't one. The story is lame, but Elephant Games is always good on the challenge level.
There are several multi-step puzzles, which I love, and several puzzles which require thought, so I'm happy about that. I like the collectables, morphs, and achievements. The busier the game, the better.
One point off for unoriginal story, good but not great graphics, and too many freakin' keys.
Is it worth a CE? Not to me. Wait for the SE, guys.
Never played a GrandMa game before, at least that I can remember. Not gonna go into the story, because others have, but I didn't find it new and exciting. I'll give them a B- for originality and creativity. The graphics are very well done, but music can be repetitive and annoying at times. I always turn it down low anyway.
The good part: not a lot of key-hunting. You find boxes (unlocked!) with useful items in them. There's a red panda helper that doesn't chatter incessantly. There's a few challenging puzzles I haven't seen before. Adventure is pretty good too.
If you like potion/spell mixing, there's a lot of that. There's not a lot of dialogue to hold you up. (Picture me saying Yes, yes, I see! Get on with it!) There's a couple episodes of tracing figures--I detest that. This isn't pre-school.
Find 72 gems and get an extra scene. Yes, if you missed them, it let's you go back and find them later. No morphs. Lots of achievements and a decent length bonus game.
Is it worth a CE? I'm on the fence. If you like this type of story set in 1910 mixed with a king from the 14th century, go for it. I guess I was expecting a creepy tale and got disappointed. The devs did try to set it apart from other games in the play, but the story is forgettable.
It really depends on your taste in game story, I guess.
Now don't I just love creepy games. This has originality, creativity, great graphics, lots of scenes, and some "Boo!" moments to it. But I won't spoil your fun.
I've played a few MadHead games, but never come across anything as star material as this. If you like games that have major creep factor, head games, and sneaking around mazes with unexpected surprises, this is your game.
Pluses include morphs in HOs, collectible whirls, making of vid, extra HO, achievements, and a decent bonus game.
It starts out strong and keeps your interest. Give it a whirl.
It's no secret I love Eipix, and have since first playing Final Cut: Death on the Silver Screen. Yeah, yeah, there's been a decline in the quality of games regarding originality, creativity, (but not graphics--they're still A-1), and storyline. And the challenge in adventure and puzzles has been lax.
But here's my take on it. It's very competitive out there, and once a game developer becomes popular, I can almost imagine a guy saying to his programmers,"Hey, I know it took a year to do the last hit game, but can't you do this one in a long weekend?" Of course, I'm guilty as the next gamer of wanting to see another Eipix game ASAP.
So Sea of Lies is pretty, but suffers from trite adventure, HO scenes, and puzzles. Seriously, I'm tired of feeding nuts to squirrels, and hammering ladders together. Let's go feed a golden eagle and build an escalator, just to be different, okay?
Other reviewers have covered the story, which was not memorable. The bonus game was very short, less than 30 minutes. There are maybe 45 globes to collect, and they stand out like Morehead Planetarium. If you get them all, a short comical film plays about the devs. No morphs, sorry. They have the usual souvenir room, which I like, and replayable puzzles and HOs. Credits still have funny remarks about the devs, which are always witty.
I'll never give Eipix a three unless they totally bomb, because their production values are so high, but I'm longing for the time when they had the ability to put more thought and effort into their games.
I'm a little late to the table, but had to give this game an unrestricted 5 stars all the way. Seriously, for those of you who don't do LFAs, this is a lot like their play: no hand-holding, remember your own codes and diagrams, non-linear play, etc.
The creativity, originality, graphic design, and storyline were all fabulous. (No villains in cowled robes going "Bwahaha!") This is very puzzle-heavy, and even HO scenes are strictly deductive puzzles, so if you like straight HOS, you may be vexed. If you love puzzles, it's heavenly.
My understanding is that FIVE-BN put out the first New York Mysteries a year ago, so it's not an every six week sort of thing. The production values are off the chain!
This is everything I love in a game: strong adventure, lots of puzzles, thinking HO scenes, good characters, excellent video, and a new story we haven't heard a variation of before. FIVE-BN has knocked it out of the park.
Sorry I don't have a snappy title in all caps, but I'm not feeling creative, and neither is EIPIX. Normally they raise the bar in originality, creativity, and delicious graphics, but this wasn't their best effort.
Someone else has given you the storyline, as well as dissected the details of gameplay, so I won't repeat. Sadly, there are no morphs in HO scenes like usual. The adventure part was, well, too easy. Eipix insists on dialing safe codes for you, as if they were too impatient to wait for you to do it yourself.
On the up side, there are a few multi-step puzzles, which I always like. I play for adventure and challenge without hints or skips, but even this storyline didn't grab me.
I always like Eipix' extras in their CEs: the souvenir room, especially. When you collect all the 39 scales, you get to see a short film of the Eipix team fooling around.
I do recommend this game, but the lack of challenge, loss of morphs, and lackluster storyline put it solidly at a 4. Still, Eipix is pretty awesome compared to others.
I recommend this game!

Shadow Wolf Mysteries: Tracks of Terror Collector's Edition
Can werewolves be cured, or will one family’s curse continue?
You have to admit, ERS makes drop dead gorgeous games. Graphics are always over the top attractive, and they make an effort to sync lip movement with dialogue. This one had decent length too.
I admit, I got totally lost in the storyline, as usual, and concentrated on challenge, puzzles, and adventure. Other reviewers have given you the painstaking game details. I play without hints or skips, and went mad at 4:00am trying to do the flower picking puzzle, but didn't require sedation.
In an era when games have morphs, collectibles, achievements, and an F-16 flyover, ERS is trying to keep up with a few interesting collectibles, each featuring a back history.
The bonus game is probably 45 minutes long, but I'm a slow, plodding tortoise of a player who has to look at every bush and flower before I'm satisfied ERS hasn't sneakily hidden a crucial clue from me.
ERS has most of the "meh" bonus features otherwise. Seriously, what am I going to do with a loop soundtrack? No, really, this game is a good solid 4 out of 5, especially if you like werewolf fantasy.
I haven't played too many Lesta games. This one has the great creep factor, coupled with originality, creativity, excellent graphics combined with live video characters. Nice touch there. I like how they freshened up the HO without the same old find this, find that. Another nice touch. I don't usually follow the story too closely, but it was easy for me to stay on track of it.
They presented puzzles well and attractively, some easy, some take thought and time. I look for challenge in a game to get my brain cells firing, and this didn't disappoint. The main game is more satisfying than the bonus game, but it was all a good romp.
Lemme try again, since my last review was too naughty to publish on Big Fish. (A word to the wise,no dissing other game companies).
EIPIX is my new best friend in game companies. I like them for their originality, creativity, awesome graphics, and "busyness" in games. That means collectibles, morphs, puzzles inside of puzzles, and interesting extras in CEs.
I get confused in storylines, so read someone else's review for that. I like challenging games with the above mentioned qualities, and EIPIX doesn't disappoint. I play without hints or skips, but still would've liked at least one really hard puzzle, like those multi-step ones you have to figure out like a Rube Goldberg device.
I only gave it a 4 for lower challenge level, but this actually an awesome game. Maybe I'm too picky.
I'd like more EIPIX games please. And the comments in the credits are the bomb.
