Seriously. I think this game is FANTASTIC. It's like watching a very suspenseful movie but then being in it. The story, the music, the scenes... it grabbed me! Even the doll who gives a hint is scary.
And after completing the game, there was still a well-done bonus chapter too. Not just an obligatory extra part but a real extra chapter.
I just finished the bonus game. What a wonderful world have I been pulled into! I was happy to return there.
The game has everything. Beautiful graphics and lots of aaaah-moments when a new scene opens up (after you've solved a puzzle to open that door, of course). All kinds of creatures to meet, who can help you if you're able to help them first. Lots of different scenes too: in the woods, in the caves, under water, in the air. It's also really long enough. The story continues to unfold, there are still new things to discover. A good variation of puzzles, HOGs too but not too many. Wonderful music with it, too. VERY NICE.
I played part of the demo and then gave up. Why? - no sensible introduction whatsoever to the story - just another ruined city and a lot of garbage lying around; messy scenes - just another 'bad guy' escaping you again and kidnapping two kids - just another second bad guy acting really poorly (again), trying to produce sardonic laughing .... Been there, seen that. Messy. Not my game.
In spite of some critical reviews, I bought this game (with a coupon code, luckily). It starts out quite well, with a trip on a zeppelin which crashes . Then the rest of the game takes place in an old and overgrown temple area. Every new scene is just another part of the temple. The graphics are not superb, not "crisp", there is a lot of running back and forth, and the story is not thrilling enough for me. An important person in the story, the former ruler of this clan of people, is very poorly acted. He pops up, tells you a few things and then only stays in that room, looking around and stepping from one foot on the other, like someone who doesn't know at all what he is doing there.
So... I quit this game and removed it, even before finishing it. That very rarely happens.
I don't recommend this game.

Sable Maze: Norwich Caves Collector's Edition
Your students have gone missing during an expedition under the university. Can you track them down before the water rises?
I liked this game for several reasons. First, I like the scenery of a university, and searching college grounds with all the classic components of it. Second, the storyline was well written; step by step you get to learn a little bit more about what's behind all of it, and you get to find and free the students that went missing. Third, the challenge was OK too - I did need a hint sometimes to find out where to go next, and found out that I had missed something important.
But... - I did not really like the collectibles. Yes, you can find several parts of a collection, every time three items, like a mineral collection, a sports collection, a history collection, and so on. But it does not really matter to the story and you don't really need them. It's just a little side story. - And then came... the bonus game. A must in every collector's edition, so it seems. This is not the first time that I was disappointed by it. The story was ended, it had some kind of climax, and then I'm supposed to play some more in a less thrilling after-story. Most of the time it is far-fetched and of course, all the elements have to be squeezed in much less time, so the storyline can never be as appealing as the main story.
So please, developers, if you DO have to write an extra chapter, then make it worth it. From now on I won't be buying much CE's anymore and that's a pity, really.
Maybe it's my computer being slow, but the passage to another scene went too slow to my taste and the game just did not react quickly to my mouse movements. Besides this, there is not much help while wandering around. If you find some kind of lock, for example, which is missing s part, this is sometimes quite obvious but not always. The only comment you get when clicking on it is something like 'Oh, this is not right' or 'Well, I guess not'. While I think it's a good thing to try something new in these kinds of hints, I do get tired of these repeating texts after a while. So I didn't finish the demo and I'm not buying it, even while the graphics do look promising.
Just finished this game and I liked it. It's eerie with all these spiders and all and there is challenge enough to my taste. The game is long enough too, and there are lots of scenes to explore.
The only (twofold) advice I would give the developers (and this has been commented before) is: a) improve your hint system. Just telling me that 'I could use something here' is annoying after a few times. Don't give it all away but a little more than this would be good. b) get better actors and speed up the dialogue. Even better, make it possible to skip just a part of it so you can read it all but can speed it up if you like.
These are the reasons I gave it 3 stars instead of four. For everything else, I recommend this game.
I played the whole game today and I really LOVED it. It's so beautifully made, the atmosphere is just right, beautiful sound, smooth story. I have hardly seen better or more stunning worlds than this one. Almost every new scene was breathtaking.
Yes, I also had the technical problem of error messages which was annoying. But I found out I could continue after clicking Ctrl+Alt+Del, Task manager, and end the process of the error message itself. I found it worth it.
This was a very good game to play. It's a long game, new scenes and worlds keep coming for a long time, filling me with wonder. The storyline is good, the characters too. Challenge enough and logic in the gameplay too. The HOS's are original: you have to look for objects in two different times. HOS scenes are repeated but not too much.
Only the ending was a bit sudden for me. But I felt very well entertained at the end. More of these, please!
Surprised as I was myself, I found myself lightly disappointed. Having played moren Maestro games (or should I say: more games by the same developers) I found myself getting a bit bored by the same graphics, the same pointer, the same music... and the "coincidence" by which all items you need are to be found quite easiliy, really. I did play Advanced Mode. But still, you need a knob for a drawer and - gosh - quite soon you just happen to find one... I don't know. Maybe I played just a bit too much of these games and I might be yearning for something new.
For less experienced players, it is a nice game: good graphics, not crisply bright but beautifully made; intriguing story if you haven't played like 80 of those before.
The only really technical flaw for me was the slowness of the game. Every time I wanted to enter another scene, it took my pc quite long to open it. And I don't think my pc is THAT slow, really....
