This is a fun game based on the 1 hour trial. I am impressed with one aspect in particular that I have not seen in other games. I love anything that deviates from the norm (is different.)
When you hit the 'Hint' button during an HOS (when only a few items remain), you can click the inventory names and it will toggle to a couple alternatives - So for example 'whale' if clicked can become 'hat' and click again it may be 'can opener' - so sometimes things listed are really not in the scene and are hidden in a different way than usual.
I couldn't play this game at all because it is too dark - not the usual dark trying to look sinister - I mean I could barely read the inventory items or anything that had a text message.
Unfortunately I could not play the game beyond the first couple screens to prove to myself that it really was so dark that it is almost completely illegible.
Sorry - I could have really liked this game for many reasons - however because it was so dark and I had to struggle even to see things that were in 'Inventory', it is just not worth it - I have a headache and my eyes are tweaking after only 15 minutes.
I think they need to upgrade the software and I say this because few games freak out when you click randomly anymore and they don't take forever to replenish the 'Hint' button anymore. After all, don't we play games for enjoyment and some challenge? Making them tedious and cumbersome to navigate and SEE - is not my idea of 'play' - it's just too much like 'work' ;o(
Something is really wrong with this game either technically or in concept - I lasted all of 10 minutes of torture as it was so dark that even the clever use of a flashlight for the first HOS didn't help - the batteries must have been low.
On top of that the objects were super teeny weeny. I looked at a few more scenes which were also too dark. Need a game to play today but I also need my eyes for the rest of my life so I will pass.
Also the navigation seemed 'clunky' - I think the designers need to upgrade their software - they couldn't possibly have intended this game to be this bad.
I am not a malcontent and have been a member for years. I have loved 99% of the BigFish games and played them all multiple times. Sorry Felix but "I cannot tell a lie"!. ;o)
You thought this would be just like any other investigation. But now you find yourself lost in a mysterious mansion brimming with strange creatures, comatose colleagues, and mysterious tentacles around every corner...
Fun and different! (Based on both trials = collect+regular, I just bought this game. OK so how is it radical? Relevant to the total experience or atmosphere of a game, are the features. This is one of two games in recent times that are revolutionary in that they have unique features that I do hope will be incorporated into more games in the future.
With this one you can shorten the time for skip and hints! to 0 seconds! So much more pleasant when skip means skip now not in 5 minutes!
...(the other wonderful new feature noted, (sorry can't remember which game) is having a lighter and knife that you just have with you through everything so you are always equipped! No torture to find the tools you need).
I love this game also because I am a sucker for the cute little animals, and these have definite personalities. Also some unique mini-games...
Now I feel 'the holiday spirit' finally - New Mystery Case Files. I always feel I am witnessing true genius and genius with a macabre sense of humor to boot. In the past I have had to use a walk thru for most MCF games and had to skip a lot - feeling dumb or that the developers are slightly mean. ;o) -- Not so with this friendlier format! I am just delighted now with the hints on the truly ingenius, fun puzzles and I just can't say enough about how much I am enjoying this game! Thank you MCF artists! Happy Holly Daze! xoxox
I just had to write a review for this game because one of the things that really takes me over the top with this game is that they give you a knife and lighter! Yes! You are not frustrated by 10 different scenes that just need a tool you don't have!!!
Also unique is that of hundreds of games I have never enjoyed the mini-games more than this game - and that is because they are achievable. It is not that they have no challenge, but somehow I am just able to do them successfully where I just 'skip' most mini-games because they are tedious.
I liked the game when I did the trial and made a note to get it. I got it and played the whole game. I really enjoyed the beautiful art work in the various scenes throughout the game. There was also a great deal of variety - I am sure I will play it many times.
The residents of Bitterford, Maine have fallen prey to a terrible curse. It’s up to you to unravel the series of mysterious events that led to the town’s downfall and uncover the evil that was responsible.
I have all the MCF games and I usually love them. I saw the dismal reviews and couldn't believe it. I have played the trial for collector and regular - and now I believe it.
Very unfriendly - lousy hints - and even for basic navigational directions (arrow) not many games 'charge' you a hint for that - but this is some kind of old-school thinking?
The most maddening part is you can't click to go to the next screen but are trapped until you read every boring piece of dialogue.
Something is wrong at MCF. Please fix whatever it is and come back with your usual great games.
I really love this game. It's one of those that twists and turns and just keeps on giving a variety of tasks. Lots of running back and forth and the interactive map (hopping) with objectives for each specific area makes it easier than usual. The hints are really clear which I appreciate (nothing worse than a hint like 'nothing else to do here move along').
Grim Tales: The Wishes will be one of those games I play over and over again and have just as much fun the 2nd, 3rd or 4th time.
