MCF has always been one of my favorite game series, however I dislike puzzles. In this game, there are puzzles inside the hidden object scenes, and puzzles that must be solved before you can move on... no skipping allowed. Ugh.
Then, when I got to the television-head guy, I thought, oooooohhh nooooo, not again, but apparently that's the point of this game -- to feature stuff from every previous MCF game while solving, or in my case skipping, puzzles.
Also, there's a mechanical butterfly helper that goes where you need it to go, but you don't have to program it. It's psychic and can read your mind. Ha.
I dislike puzzles and always skip them. Unfortunately, in this game there are puzzles disguised as HOS, and HOS disguised as puzzles, and every time you turn around there's another one!.
As for the plot, there's the overused escape-from-the-car-before-it-goes-over-the-cliff gambit, the overused wall climbing game, the vicious barking guard dog to contend with, and you haven't even finished the demo yet.
Not only that, but I really dislike gadgets, and the compass/ watch thing (which is yet another hidden object/ puzzle you have to put together) is used way too often. Unfortunately, why the thing glows green is never explained. You just wave it around, it turns green, and then you go there. Yawn.
That said, given the overwrought excitement of previous reviewers, you should probably give it a try.
I just wasn't having any fun. For me, it was unclear what to do next without a hint, and not only that, but the HOS were muddy-colored jumbles -- apropos to the story but difficult for my old eyes to see. I did like the story line, and I do recommend you give this game a try.
The only good thing I can say is the colors were nice. The rest was going back and forth finding objects in places they would never be in real life, lots of shaped keys, and an unfortunate jumble of bad ideas.
Same old story set in Vienna instead of Paris. I don't understand why some folks think this is new and special.
Graphics are flashy, lots of flaming stuff, but mediocre at best. The squirrel was cute, but that was about it. The characters stand stock still like paper dolls with moving mouths pasted on.
HOS are the standard ones.
The phantom keeps appearing and disappearing. I'm pretty sure there'll be a magic lantern projector showing up later in the game, but I don't care to hang around to find out. Show less

Sometimes I wonder where BFG dredges up some of their game offerings from. This one is a perfect example. The only good thing I can say about it is the acting wasn't awful. I actually felt sorry for the actors for having to voice such an amateurish script.
Speaking of amateur, I won't even mention the graphics.
And what was up with the HOS? Too clever by half and wound up being just really weird and annoying. As for the puzzles? At least the skip button filled in 15 seconds.
The graphics and voice-overs were good, and there is a custom mode. Otherwise, I'd have given this game only a one-star rating.
I don't like all the "What could I possibly do here?" and "Let me think" dialogue boxes popping up, not to mention the "objective" boxes flying out of the left side of the screen. I've never been able to find a way to turn off those annoyances in this developer's games.
I had trouble getting into some of the areas I wanted to look at which made it seem as if there was nothing of interest there, but then when I would get a hint, it would point to the exact spot I had originally wanted to look at. I'm not sure if that was a glitch, or if I didn't have the necessary inventory item yet, or some other problem.
Overall, I simply got bored with the story line before the demo ended. It didn't capture my interest enough to continue putting up with the annoyances
