This one really grew on me as I went along. The game was not particularly challenging, but I found the storyline to be engaging. The artwork was lovely - while not as colorful as I prefer, it fit the storyline where you are moving back and forth to a ghostly realm. The game was a good length and flowed smoothly. I did hate that the wallpapers were locked until the end - I wish developers would quit doing that!! Also, true widescreen graphics would have made the game much better. Overall, however, it was an excellent game and I look forward to the sequel which was revealed in the bonus section.
I recommend this game!

I really enjoyed this game. The graphics were very atmospheric and the story was engaging. The game play was smooth and moderately challenging. The game was mostly adventure/inventory type elements, with fewer hidden object scenes and puzzles than other games of this type. There were only a few puzzles, but they were very good. The bonus game was a good length and enhanced the main story. True widescreen graphics would have made the game even better. I appreciated that the CE wallpapers were available at the beginning of the game. Overall, a great game!

This was a very good game. The graphics were clear and colorful, and the game play was smooth, although not particularly challenging on the difficult mode. There seemed to be a good balance between adventure elements and hidden object scenes, but there were fewer puzzles than other games of this type. The story was somewhat convoluted, and was a bit more involved than some other similar games. The length was pretty good, with a decent bonus game. As with so many other games like this, it was developed with standard frame versus widescreen graphics, so it could have been much better with true widescreen graphics.
Overall though, an enjoyable and well-made game.
I recommend this game!

This was a good game. The scenery was a bit on the depressing side, but the game had smooth game play with good adventure elements. It seemed to be mostly adventure/inventory and hidden object scenes, with a few puzzles here and there. I did like the story in the main game - while it was not too complex, it was revealed slowly in a way that kept my interest. The bonus game less so, but it was still a decent length and designed in the same manner as the main game, giving a different point of view.
The setting for this game was a bit different (from the darker ones which I love) but it is nice to have a change of scenery, which this game provided. The usual downside was no widescreen and also no voices, which would have definitely added to the atmosphere.
Overall, I did like the game and really thought it was well designed. I would certainly play another from this developer!
I recommend this game!

This game was very good, and comparable to many CEs out there. It had a very familiar mix of adventure elements, hidden object scenes and puzzles. While the game play itself wasn’t very original, the spooky seaside setting was a bit different - I really liked the graphics, particularly the very realistic waves splashing against the shore. The story was ok, and the overall length was about average. The bonus game was well-designed, offering the other character’s point of view during the events of the story, which was quite well done. (As is too common in these games, the graphics were not in widescreen format...)
Overall it was a good game – I look forward to more from this developer.
I recommend this game!

This was really a great and enjoyable game. The visuals were very colorful and clear and the adventure elements were excellent, with lots to explore. The puzzles were familiar but fun and were balanced nicely with hidden object scenes. The game was also pretty long, with a very helpful map. Although the story was not as well developed as the previous two in this series, I really enjoyed the way it was slowly revealed throughout the game with tapes (although a complete recap of prior events would have been really helpful).
I thought the CE had good extras, with collectables which are always fun, a well-designed bonus, and re-playable puzzles and hidden object scenes. The wallpapers could have been better, however, since I did not feel they made the best use of the game's artwork.
One important point about the selection of "widescreen" in this game (and most other CE releases). The widescreen option does NOT provide true widescreen graphics, only stretches and distorts the image across your screen - probably why some people complained of "graininess". The "black bars" so many people complain about are what make the images clear and put the graphics in the proper proportion (round is round, etc)...I do not understand why stretched screens continue to be acceptable (or even desirable) to so many people, or why most game developers have not upgraded to actual widescreen graphics at this point in time!! Always a disappointment in a quality CE game like this one, along with locked wallpapers...
I recommend this game!

This game was good, but it could have definitely been better. It had decent graphics, very good adventure elements, lots of hidden object scenes and a few extremely easy puzzle-type activities. The length was on the short side, although the bonus game was longer than some others I’ve played in CEs, and was pretty good. The challenge level was moderate on the hard level, in terms of adventure/inventory objects.
The game had good, bad, and some rather odd points. One of its strong points was the story which was slowly revealed throughout the game (although it was very much on the dark side). Also good was the creepy soundtrack voices (some general background sound effects got on my nerves a bit, however). I disliked the strategy guide, as I typically do from this developer. This one seemed to start over in one particular spot every time I opened it –very annoying. Also, there was lots of lost potential in terms of atmosphere and consistency. Although the graphics were fine, they were mostly grim (in keeping with the theme) but some lighter scenes just didn’t seem to belong in the game (for example a pumpkin patch). There seemed to be promise early in the game of hallucinatory-type scenes – which was very good and creative – but there actually was only one…this type of thing made the game seem to be a bit thrown together. Also, the ending to the main story was quite abrupt. Oddly, I was left with several inventory objects that continued to appear during the bonus game, but were never used…
The asylum theme has been done several times over, and better, by other developers. While I enjoyed this game for the most part, I would definitely recommend Faces, Asylum Conspiracy, or Twisted Lands Insomniac over this one for a similar setting. Previous titles from this developer such as the Princess Isabella and Empress of the Deep series, or Voodoo Whisperer, are also far superior to this game.
I recommend this game!

This was an excellent game in almost every way. It had it all - excellent adventure elements, great graphics with a large environment to explore, and a perfect balance of inventive puzzles and hidden objects scenes that never repeated. The game was also quite challenging and very long. The bonus game was good as well.
I only had a few complaints, which really could have made this game top of the line. One is that the story was not very deep or well developed – the game could have definitely been better in that area, with more suspense and depth. This was needed in The Bride as well, but more so in this game, in my opinion. Maybe some more interesting journal entries, and notes found around the manor that added some element of suspense and intrigue – it was pretty bare bones in this regard.
Also, while the game was still quite challenging on the advanced mode, there were things that could have made it even better. There were too many instances where information popped up when you clicked on a hot spot telling you exactly what to do – I tried on the hardest level, and the same was true. Also, the in-game tips should have been more vague – just to point you in the right direction. Unfortunately they spelled out exactly what was needed next, when all that should have been provided was a hint – not specifics. For example: ‘go to the living room next and look around’ – instead of ‘go to the living room, use the tongs in the fireplace to pull out the coin and place on the table to generate the puzzle,’ etc…
In spite of its few flaws, it was an excellent, fun, long and wonderful game!!
I recommend this game!

Well, I am not going to knock this ERS game (like I have been doing a bit lately) as I noticed some distinct improvement. On the hard mode, the game actually has a moderate amount of challenge - really, that is all I wanted...
As always, the graphics are beautiful (for the most part - there are still some inconsistencies - I wish their team would finish every scene with the same level of lovely detail and polish - maybe next time...).
I still love these games, but I just want a little challenge when I choose the hardest level. I don't expect - or want - every game I play to be extremely challenging - so I love that ERS provides beautiful, fun, and predictable games for those times when I want something a bit lighter. (But not so easy that it is no fun at all). I think they have finally provided what I was hoping for with their inclusion of a hard mode. It made the game more fun - I wish they would now go back and delete those unnecessary hints in every past game - oh well...
I was a beta tester for this game, and gave some very specific feedback concerning removing the explicit instructions for every inventory object. I am not going to pretend that is the reason this improvement was finally made, as I am sure I voiced one of many comments in this regard. However, I am delighted that some improvements were actually made.
Overall, I am now looking forward to the upcoming games, and any sequels to the various ERS series. Please keep up with these types of improvements - thanks ERS!!
I recommend this game!

This was a very good game, although not as challenging or complex as some other CEs out there.
I thought the overall atmosphere of the game was wonderful, with beautiful, colorful and creative graphics. The game play was smooth with good adventure elements and a mild level of challenge concerning the inventory items and a few puzzles. Also, the main game and bonus section were a good length. The story was not deeply developed, but was still entertaining. I really loved the haunted amusement park setting (Dreamland remains my favorite, however, in terms of game design and challenge).
While I thought this game was really fun for the most part, I did not care for many of the puzzles - there were too many tile-rotating type puzzles (which I typically dislike). Also, while the hidden object scenes were enjoyable, they were overly easy and repeated up to three times in many cases. I was disappointed there were no wallpapers, since the artwork was so well done.
Overall, in spite of a few downsides mentioned above, I really enjoyed this game and would love to see more like it!
I recommend this game!
