Another reviewer had this as a favorite link a few years back (thank you for that link!!) and since that first dl I've played it every summer since.
It has great summer sound effects of being at the beach.
The graphics are absolutely perfect, with little 3d characters. I like that the little characters aren't cartoons like we see in most fast-task driven TMs. It has a lot of fun tasks, especially ordering the car to go buy supplies to fill your supply shack.
The TM pacing is perfect.
I adore this TM and it's replay value is super high.
I bought Matchventures 1 as soon as it came out. I LOVE that M3. It's a quality M3 with a gothic feel and it really seems like they spent time and money to perfect it. I liked the 1st MV enough that I still had it in my game manager.
I was thrilled to see they made this 2nd one and when I started the demo to it I realized it's the same as the first!
I started replaying the 1st one along with this release and even the icons are the same. I couldn't find one tile with a different picture.
This is a great game if you don't already own the 1st one.
The residents of Bitterford, Maine have fallen prey to a terrible curse. It’s up to you to unravel the series of mysterious events that led to the town’s downfall and uncover the evil that was responsible.
I bought the CE to this game and played it the first time when it came out in 11-2012. It was getting really bad reviews so I replayed it in 11-2015 to see if I still thought it was worthy of 5* rating and still think it is. I really liked this game. I loved the graphics which are crystal clear and more computer gen. rather than hand painted.
They use live actors and wish all games still did. I love when characters are life-like & and don't have weird jerky or floating movements. I loved Leah Thompson from Caroline in the City and the character Brandon- Jack Talon O'Neill.
Be sure to watch the end credits because it has another little surprise there.
If you are considering the CE version over this one, the bonus play wasn't all that great. It was hard to find your way around because the ce wtg stopped working for me. There are several scenes where you find around 3 morphs a scene but they don't tell you how many are in a scene.
What I would have missed if I didn't get the CE version is:
There is a 5 min. video of behind the scenes at BFG and the making of this game that was amazing. Instead of concept art I wish videos like this were standard content in all CE games.
The CE version also has 3 great screensavers too. One of the motel, one of the town center (with a crashing VW Beetle), and one of the school.
BASED ON COMPLETED SE -and completed demo to the CE (I didn't complete the CE bonus chapter though.)
The game took me 3hrs. 17min. I play on custom at an average pace so it may be more or less for you.
This didn’t feel like a MCF to me. It would have been a great new series if they left the title Revenant’s Hunt and had different games based on a different revenant. The more you play, the better this game gets because they explain more and more story as you go and it's really pretty interesting by the end when you learn who is who.
There is a great journal/diary that you need to keep checking to understand the story more. It also has a game timer so be sure to check it just before the end of Chapter 6 to see how long it’s taken you. I used the blog WTG to see where I was in the game but the CE version has an in game WTG that is really helpful. The story is so confusing just in the demo portion. I noticed a few reviewers saying the story was hard to follow (and it is) so be sure to read the new entries into the journal to catch up on what's going on. There are also 9 cards to find in the SE portion which go in a silver box on the left of the screen. The cover moves and glows a bit if there is a card still in the scene.
I found the scenes were lacking detail and content. Usually MCF titles are fully loaded and this game not so much. Based on the gameplay itself it’s a 4* game to me and based on a MCF title and comparing it to others, like 13th skull, it just doesn’t compare. So you need to go in with an open mind and play the game for just the game—and not the with MCF tag.
It has 4 of those super puzzles in the SE. I completed all of the first one but some of the others I was skipping sections.
In the last chapter there are some “exhibits” that are interactive and walk you through the story. It has those MCF mannequins like we see in MCF Escape from Ravenhearst. I really liked how they did the VO and effects for these.
All in all, I liked this game and it kept my interest until the last scene. Since I purchased the SE, I missed kicking the piles of leaves and missed the collectibles the CE has so I recommend either version depending on if you miss those things.
I loved playing this MCF in my neck of the woods. Thank you Eipix!

My actual final rating for this game would be: 3.8 of 5* The SE portion of the game took me just shy of 3hrs to finish.
I play on custom mode at an average pace and like to figure things out on my own.
You save 3 souls in this game, and I still love that premise. This is my favorite series by this DEV.
I noticed there are a lot of low reviews for this game because not much has changed since every other game in this series. I agree with a lot of those statements. This was definitely not the best RC in the series but I still enjoyed it to the end.
The first 3 games in this series are my favorites, especially RC3 Grave Testimony. The earlier RC games had a diary that held the different storylines and that was missed.
Funny Happenings: In chapter 3 one of the characters really needs your help. Instead, I walk past another character, a coach, who just stands in my way but I don’t tell him of the soul in peril. I played 2 HOS, lit a fire, made glue to fix a boat, then patched the boat to get to the guy. That poor boob bobbed in the water for a long time. Amazing he was still alive! LOL
The biggest downside for me was the repetitive game effect sound of a harp flourish EVERY time you pick something up. That seems to be an irritant for me in a lot of games if there isn’t a way to adjust game sounds in the options menu.
I also wish there was a way to tweak the “rain effects” over a scene, in the options menu, because it makes it hard to see the scene clearly. Thankfully it only rained in a couple of scenes in this game. I've noticed after years of playing these games that an annoying repetitive sound (that can't be changed), is enough for me to stop playing an entire game series altogether in some cases.
I happen to love games with portals because I like when the time of day changes from the "basic color theme" throughout which I find is monotonous for game play in many games. This game does have the different colors, day changes and multiple storylines which I crave in a game.
The demo is not the best part of this game as I thought the base storyline was very weak. I wish this developer would try something new such as present day characters and time periods.
If you like games with portals and saving people in different chapters, try these here at BFG that I also liked:
1. Reincarnation series (I loved all 3) 2. House of 1000 door series 3. Sable Maze: Nightmare Shadows CE 4. Whispered Secrets: Everburning Candle CE 5. Mysteries of the mind: Coma CE
I purchased the CE for this title because it offers 8 screensavers. I liked the bonus chapter too, if you are considering that version over this.
Since we all have different opinions of these games, I just highly suggest you play the demo and see if it's your thing. Just keep in mind the demo was the weakest portion of this game for me, believe it or not.

If this series were ever to rewind again, I would hit the stop button at the original Dire Grove. Observe that game and add a portal task map- maybe call it Dire Grove Fast Forward. :)
Listed under HOPA, this one has no A for Adventure.... This seems to be the type of game players will either love or hate so I highly suggest you try it before you buy it.
The funny thing is, I am more of a HOP fan than a MG fan regarding the HOPA, and I don't like this game which is HOP heavy. I am "old school" gamer to this site and I've seen all the MCF come out, in order. The oldest (original) MCF are my least favorite and I didn't start loving this series until the first version of Dire Grove was released.
Back in the day, I'd be so excited to see the MCF release because you would be rewarded with items such as mouse pads and MCF trinkets, if you bought the CE. I'd actually purchase the CE's just for the keychain or whatever... Those were the days........
I really loved the initial cut scene that showed all the other games quickly and was excited to play it, but the monotony of seeing the repeated door cut scene to bring us from one HOP to another grew annoying. I absolutely hated that you couldn't "walk" from one room to another. Eipix has taken years to get the characters in their games positively perfected. In my opinion, all of their newer games have perfect graphics, perfectly presented characters, etc. so I hated the "rewind" on character development in this game, as well. I was not a fan of the cartoonish hand drawn ones instead, because overall I prefer realistic looking characters in a HOPA. Even though I disliked this game, I highly suggest these in the MCF series instead:
1. The first Dire Grove (the mystery was amazing) 2. The 13th Skull (with its live characters, just perfect) 3. Shadow Lake (I know a lot of people didn't like this one but after playing the whole thing twice, I still love it)
This game may pick up after the demo as I know some games do but there is no way I'd play beyond the demo to find out because this one just wasn't my thing.
I just didn’t seem to connect with this game. I found it a bit too dark and weird. It has a soul transfer storyline with a steampunk feel.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:
~ An icon appears whenever my character speaks of a blank shadow person. I prefer to know who I’m playing as and what I look like otherwise it creates a disconnect for me with the character and the game.
~ You play all the scenes of the demo in inside locations and they all have the exact same color scheme. I just prefer when a game mixes up the color tones in the scenes so you don’t feel like every location you play in is the same as the last. ~ In chapter 2, pg 7, you come upon a rat that is trapped in a glass container that has been used for animal testing for soul transfer. He bites you so your character kills him with a syringe of poison. I would have stopped the game at this point but continued to the end of the demo for an unbiased opinion of this game.
WHAT I LIKED:
~ The diary/notebook- Grandma is the only dev. that puts the cut-scenes in order with the notes you find in the game. They are all kept in a binder together so you can follow the story by reading and re-watching the videos sequentially. I will often wait to buy a CE on sale and play other games while I’m waiting so it is so great to have this feature to brush up on the story and reconnect with the game after the demo. This diary is on point, and you feel so much more connected to the story and characters if it’s all fresh in your mind.
~ I love the tab indicators and icons that tell you if you still have a morph or collectible in the scene. ~ I liked the MG in chapter 2 with the microscope. ~ The personal items you find were excellent in this game. Pictures, articles, photos, notes and articles were all done with care.
This game just wasn’t for me. I don’t recommend this game- but Grandma made one of my top favorite games (I’ll add a link to) Whispered Secrets #5 Everburning candle. If you haven’t tried the demo for it be sure to check it out. It has these cube HOS, and special HOS like I’ve never played before. I highly recommend that one instead.
Based on completed game twice Once in 2012 and again in 2015
The SE portion took me 4hrs. 15min. (and with the CE bonus chapter it was a total of 5hrs. 32min.)
This game is older and doesn't have a jump map so there is a bit of travel by memory. You may need to adjust the screen in options to include the black bars on both sides but the graphics are clearer. The Hint button has a step x step help system but it takes about 30 seconds to refresh which annoy some people.
It has a great storyline, great special effects and this one has a diary. I absolutely loved the music in this game.
The SE has a great ending that is independent from the CE. I really loved both endings though.
I really loved this game and it's replay value is still high on my list.
