Another reviewer had this game as a favorites link for one of her reviews of a game like this and I'm so appreciative she did. I've found so many awesome games I never would have known about other than that link and other players filling that line in to help us find the best games at the site. So thank you my fellow reviewers!!
I understand why this game was a favorite too. It's a happy game with bright, clear, colorful graphics. However, due to these rich detailed scenes, I wasn't always clear as to where to go next. It does have this helpful path guide that dots a path up to a barrier you have to deal with to progress so that was helpful putting me back on track.
Gameplay was easier than a lot of these I've played in the past and it does become progressively harder the higher the levels go. The music became annoying shortly into the game and I hit the off button rather fast.
The CE content isn't worth the extra money to me for this one though, so I'll wait to get the SE.
All in all it is a great game of its type and it gets a thumbs up from me :)
Aside from the hidden items to look for, my favorite thing about this game was clicking the little animals and people that respond.
This game has a hidden object feature (usually 2-3 per scene), that I haven't seen done this way in this type of game. You must roll your mouse over the scene, as your workers are completing tasks, to find a hidden rainbow that appears to click on. Looking for these really helps the gamer get the lay of the land and what upcoming tasks are going to be next. I thought this feature was innovative and fun.
This game pre-selects "multi-click mode" but I wasn't getting 3 gold stars and by level 4 it told me I failed and needed to start again. I'm not really great at these aerial-task driven TMs until I play them for quite a few levels. So I changed the mode to "relaxed"-- and almost like a new profile, it started me off at level 1 again but it kept my progress under "multi-click" mode. I liked that feature.
***You may want to change the pre-select to "relaxed", right off the bat, if you want to proceed without replaying levels due to the time crunch in the other game modes.
By the time I made it to level 4 the 2nd time, I finally had all gold stars and was able to proceed to level 5. So I guess I'm too slow for the "multi-click" mode as all I wanted to do was find and click on all the little animals that respond and make noise. The developer should create a feature where you need to click all of those per level for a reward. I was bummed out the little hedgehog wouldn’t react like the other animals. I think I was in denial because I clicked him several times hoping for a response (lol).
This is definitely a 5* game to me, but the CE version doesn't have enough bang for your buck IMO. So I'll wait for the SE to come out and buy it ASAP.
This CE doesn’t come with a strategy guide and I'm sure there are other players, like myself, that aren’t as quick with this type of game and would have benefited from one.
I also feel if all the other CE games at this site get a “Blog WTG” (provided by Big Fish) under the SE version that these TM’s should also.
I have no idea how I missed this adorable series, after all this time, and will go back and demo the ones that came before this. Thank you to this DEV, you should be so proud of yourselves for this adorable game and its high replay value. It is so obvious how much time and effort went into this with all the little details that make this game so special.
Everything about this game works. It stands out for all its special details right on down to the menu screen. Be sure to click on the snow globe! I normally play these games on Custom, especially because I like a fast hint. Since this game is older, it doesn't have that option. I noticed this game has too many glimmer sparkles so the second casual selection (it's called "Frightful Flakes") gets rid of those but the hint is still relatively fast.
The SE portion took me 4hrs 30min The CE bonus play took me 1hr 35min Total gameplay: 6hrs 5min
Chapter 2 has an adorable fawn colored bulldog wearing a Santa costume that looked exactly like an adored pet I lost in the Christmas of 2008. So seeing that dog was like getting a hug from her. I knew I was going to love this game. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ HOS- They are all the list type with some 2 steppers. I loved every scene. All of the items are well hidden and scenes are organized and fully loaded. They were perfectly done I felt. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Morphing penguins (CE only): This game has some of the best ones I've ever searched for and I took a fair amount of time looking for them. They sloooowwww morph and into an item that would also fit the scene. So I didn't miss them I'd check each scene 1st thing. If you like morph hunting, this game is worth the CE version for that alone. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More time was spent on cut scenes and 3D in game animation, rather than the newer games that focus on character mouth movements. I liked it way better this way. The graphics are also way better in this game than the newer versions of CS. I loved how they used real items rather than all hand drawn. I felt it clarified the objects and made the entire HOS better because of them.
The game scene backgrounds look like actual photos of snow covered trees, instead of the concept art looking backgrounds we see a lot of in newer games. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is a MG in chapter 4 pg 25 of wtg where you cycle puzzle pieces to determine the outcome of Scrooges life was really fun. And details such as the "kindness lantern" takes place over many scenes that you come back to apply "kindness" to later. They do this a couple of times in this game where you collect several items through many scenes then go back and apply them. They did it again with 3D animated little trolls you needed to banish. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Screensavers (CE version only): You get these UP FRONT and can apply them immediately after purchase instead of collecting the puzzle pieces. I love when the game gives you what you pay for without having to replay to get the CE bonus content. When I'm paying double for the CE version I want the bonus items up front. One Screensaver is of a balcony at night, it's snowing with colorful fireworks going off in the distance. The other is of the ghost of Christmas past in Scrooges living room as the misty ghost of Christmas present bobs up and down. I was surprised they didn't use the last scene of all the cats from bonus play instead. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bonus play: The story is all about cats. You play as Sherlock Cat who is investigating the case of the missing Santa Cat. This chapter was really fun. I liked this chapter but I have to admit, I've always found the cats in CS a bit creepy :)
Bonus play takes place over 12 scenes. Only 3 of these are new scenes and the rest we've played in the main game. There is a gimmicky magnifying glass to locate paw prints that isn't overused and I liked it.
I counted 4 more HOS in the bonus play and 3 more MG. There are no more morphing penguins in bonus play. The bonus chapter takes up a whopping 19 pages of the strategy guide. It is a long chapter that is worth the money I think. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The music was great but I noticed it would just cut off if you'd shut down a zoom zone or move to another area.
Scene after scene in this game is just so beautiful with natural tones that aren't that fake looking, vivid "snow blue". My favorite scene in the game is in chapter 6 called "near cemetery". It is snowing with a little bridge over a still reflective brook and a cozy red house off in the distance.
Thank you Elephant,,,, You created a classic with this game and you really out did yourselves with this one. Thank you for all the attention to detail, the beautiful 3D animation, and for many hours of perfect Christmas fun. Replay value for this game is super high and I'll install it every Christmas just for the screensavers.

This game should have a *Warning- disturbing content* Obviously, I don't suggest this one for kids.
It took me 4hr 35 min to complete the SE portion. and 45 min. for the bonus chapter (but I skipped most the MG). Total gameplay for CE: 5hr 20min The other bonus content that unlocks took me 15 min. total
There is no paranormal in this one. It's a suspense thriller/ serial killer type of game. I give 5* based on the demo which is played in beautiful autumn woodland areas. I adored the demo and would rate it higher if I could. At the start of chapter 2 you get to hike through several forest scenes during a MG and it was so fun. I didn't care for this game as much after the demo, because most of the areas of play are in dank, dirty, indoor locations which I would rate 3*. In the end I decided on a 5* rating for it's entirety because I loved the storyline bumped the rating back up for me. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The best thing about this game (other than the demo) was the fact you play as 3 family members. As the story progresses, the storyline for the character you’re playing ends with a cliffhanger and starts up with another character. So you watch the game from several perspectives. In the bonus chapter you play as a 4th character. The first game in this series did this also, but only with 2 characters. Also, Eipix used these perfect sepia color tones. What a breath of fresh air! The colors are natural and I bought the CE within playing only 10 min. of the demo because of these color tones.
Since you play as 3 different characters, each one has its own collectible so just be aware you are looking for different items. I think they were green cups, a rock with a red band, and lost posters. It also has a morph to look for and just a few magnetic tapes to collect which you continue collecting in the CE's bonus chapter. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ JOURNAL: This game has an awesome journal that holds the storyline step x step. Be sure to keep looking back and reading new entries. I spent a good deal of time re-reading the journal from the start too, just so I knew exactly what was going on. The main story ends a bit too quickly and leaves you speculating what happened to a couple of the characters. That mostly gets resolved in the CE bonus play.
I wish Eipix would incorporate the cut scenes within the journal. It helps to understand the story and you don’t have to exit the game and enter “extras” whenever you want to brush up on the story. Quite often I'll wait to buy a CE on sale and play other games in between so it's great to have a journal that holds the story and even better when it holds the cut scenes AND the diary notes. Storyline is one of the most important things to me in these games. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ BONUS CHAPTER (CE only): The storyteller sets the scene again, mentioning the people from Paranormal Hour that had been visiting the area and we are now playing as Kate with Barry as a side kick from this ghost hunting crew. 7 scenes are played in this chapter. 5 are areas we played in the main game (and they aren’t even really revised), and only 2 areas are new. I counted 2 HOS and 5 MG (2 of these were easy & had no skip). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WTG: (CE only) has a 57 page in game strategy guide. 52 pages of that are actual gameplay. Demo-Ch.1 Jill Weaver is 13pgs, Ch.2 Josh Weaver is 10pgs, Ch. 3 Jill Weaver- part 2 is 11pgs, Chapter 4 Emma Weaver is 11pgs, & bonus chapter Kate (and Barry) from Paranormal Hour is only 7 pgs So to give you an idea how long the bonus chapter is compared to the demo… The demo is 13pgs long and the bonus chapter is only 7 pages.
WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE: 1. The music was perfect for this game but they played it way too much. I just prefer a lot of environmental sounds during long stretches of gameplay. 2. THE GAME EFFECT SOUNDS: They are on the same options slider as the environmental sounds in the menu and every time I’d bump the curser into the inventory bar it makes this noise. Also the “NOPE, try again” sound. I had just finished 3 other Eipix games back to back and these same noises are just so annoying to me now and you can’t shut them off without turning off the environmental sounds. 3. CLARITY OF GRAPHICS- They seem to be using some kind of camera-like filter over all the scenes to make them look painted. The problem with this is the graphics start to get fuzzy and undefined. I loved the older games that just used computer gen graphics like the console games.
If you liked this game, I thought these were similar in some way: 1. Bonfire Stories #1 Faceless Gravedigger 2. Enigmatis The Mists of Ravenwood (also played in a campground-like location) 3. Shiver: Vanishing Hitchhiker (same sepia tones- it’s an old game, may need to adjust options) 4. Brink of Consciousness: Dorian Gray (psych. thriller- serial killer type game- older though- I’ll add a link).
Thank you Big fish~ Another great job Eipix!! I’m such a fan. I can’t wait for the next one in this series.
BASED ON COMPLETED SE (I didn’t play the CE bonus chapter)
This game took me 4hrs 30min (over 8 days) There is a bunch of different style HOS and I liked most but it does have quite a few silhouette items which I don't like as much. Each HOS has at least 1 morphing item even in the SE version.
I loved the reactive items (mostly in the demo) so be sure to click on everything in the scene to see them all.
I love how much care Brave Giant takes to put details like this into their games. Each scene is fun and full of detail. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm not a MG fan but I liked a lot of them in this game:
~I loved the Santa book in demo and wished it had way more pages. ~Cool how the evil snowman threw snowballs at me and when they hit the screen it freezes over. The water balloon MG to defeat him is tricky. I had to fiddle with it a bit until I figured it out. ~There is a M3 MG that we play in 2 different chapters with a connect the icon where your character faces off with an opponent. You have to fill 3 tubes with a certain # of icons but also need to make matches for the opponent too in order to fill all your own tubes. I liked it both times I played it. ~There is also a fun MG where you match EKG lines on a world globe. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I really liked the way they did the end cut scene to the main game and they tap on each chapter to just show a little ending for all the characters. Well done.
These graphics are too cartoony for me on the one hand; but I love how HD clear they are on a large monitor compared to what most DEV here offer. They are crisp and clean and I really like that about them but Brave Giant may want to check out the style of graphics for Enigmatis 3- The Shadow of Karkhala, Eventide 2: Sorcerer's Mirror, or Faces of Illusion- which I think would have been a better fit for this game. The graphics I’m speaking of are similarly HD clear & detailed on a large monitor but less “cartoony” because they have a more oil painted effect added to the graphics we see in this game. I just feel it would make the game look and feel more expensive. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What I didn't like as much: The way this game is set up, you can't just hand an item to another character without first clicking the character to open a "close up" scene of them talking. You'll bump in to it quite a bit and it was a little nuisance to hand the person the item try elsewhere before realizing you have to actually click the character to open another scene for them to accept it. ~Sound effects: The more games I play I'm realizing I'm really annoyed by some of the game effect sounds. Every time you pick up an item in the HOS it made a sound, and every time you hit the hint button. I really hated the sound effect for "oops wrong item, try again". I wish the DEV would put an options slider in the menu for the game sound effects (like MHG does) that doesn't affect the environmental sounds. ~ The music was nice in this game but it played too much and I grew really tired of the song by the end. The demo through chapter 3 were my favorite parts of this game and I liked chapter 4 the least.
In Chapter 4 (I just read J9CT’s review who said the same thing :) -the game turns to more of a blue ice world with an evil queen and the Christmas feeling was missing for me here too.
I liked this game much better in the beginning chapters and it fizzled a bit for me by the last. My final rating is 3.8*.

I liked the demo the most and the 4th chapter the least. In the 4th chapter you play in a "kingdom of blue ice, with an evil ice queen". I usually bypass (and don't review much for)the king & queen type of game. The last chapter didn't feel much like a Christmas game to me that much.
I liked the game but by the end I was hitting the hint button a lot so I'm not sad I missed out on the CE version.

Thank you Big fish~ Another great job Eipix!! I’m such a fan. I can’t wait for the next one in this series.
Clearly so much time, effort and money went into making this perfect M3. The background scene for the playing board is even beautiful with a running waterfall.
You match for gold, supplies, and food to build a little ancient Egyptian city. All the little 3d characters are busy so take the time to watch them go about living life :)
First you get a blueprint and do a puzzle to see it then you watch as your little ancient Egyptians build houses, gardens, etc. and they live in their newly built homes.
I've always loved ancient Egyptian things and had a blast with this game. I first played & completed it in 2012 and haven't played another M3 as perfect as this since.
Some other M3's I also loved & I think that are similar to this--you may want to demo... (I'll add a link)
1. Cradle of Rome #2 2. Hero's of Hella's #3- Athens
Thank you Bigfish and the DEV for so many hours of fun. I know I will play it over and over.
I thought this game wasn't bad but it wasn't a blast either. With a few changes it could go from being an ok M3 to a great one.
WHAT I FELT COULD BE IMPROVED: ~ There is nothing to match for. I just prefer an M3 that you can build things. As an example, Cradle of Egypt has the best building area I've seen in any M3. ~ Waiting at the end of every level for the board to figure out your points. Its annoying to have to sit and wait for points I don't care about anyway. ~ I only played 1 HOS in this demo, but it asked for "bottle" and there were 5 bottles in the scene. It asked for "bell" and there were 2 bells. It asked for "brick" and there is a wall of bricks in the background. The "key" did not look like a key. So either have the player look for a number of 1 of an item or leave out all the extra items. It's frustrating when you click the "bottle" and nothing happens until you click on the right one. ~ A VO announces "level complete". That's just a redundant statement. ~Words like "excellent" and "good" actually cover the M3 board so you have to ignore this distraction to fast match. ~ Hint system is too fast to point out "Here, this next!" (even on hard mode). It's huge too, covering a lot of the playing field, while a yellow line with a box points out where the player should match next. ~ During gameplay it's not evident to the player you can use that "back" button in the upper left corner to get to the "options" menu. I wanted to try and shut off the hint system during gameplay of one board and thought I would lose that level's play. That button should just say "options" instead of "back". ~ This game needs more tile icon designs for different levels. Many of the levels feel like the previous level and it would be better to have a little change in scenery each level so the player doesn't get bored.
WHAT I LIKED: ~I loved the MG where you flip tiles to match 2 items. ~ I liked that you can fast match in the "timeless mode". ~ I liked making matches next to the blue jewels & making matches next to the tiles that would spit arrows through the row (innovative, loved those). ~ The sound effects and music were pretty good but I usually turn down game music in M3's for classic rock or 90's alternative. ~ I loved the background color vs. the tile icon colors. It makes for easy matching quickly and perfectly done here.
I could be wrong, but this game felt like it was made by a either a smaller (or a new) Developer (?) I'm sorry to pick this game apart but I hope these suggestions just make the next game great.
