This is the first time I’ve ever stood up (literally!) and applauded a team of game developers for what was in my opinion the MOST fascinating, original, creative, out of the box thinking and challenging game I’ve EVER played !
I’ve taken several days to play the main game.. reading every word, savoring the game adventure, the hidden object creativity, the puzzles.
The team (of which there were MANY, as I even read the credits) literally put their hearts and souls into the making of this game.
I haven’t even played the bonus game yet but felt compelled to go ahead and give this game a 5 star PLUS rating… now to savor the bonus game…..
If Eipix continues down the path it has chosen for this game it will outshine ALL other developers, leaving them in the dust.

2012 seems to have been a very good year for games... as I've been playing some older ones and find them so much more challenging than today's easy, almost no challenge games.
For those of us who eagerly await to have a "true fear", this is the one to tackle.
LOVE roaming around in old abandoned places? You'll love roaming around this huge abandoned asylum!
Miss the days when we had journals that you had to actually read and write down or remember clues rather than have them handed to us on little pieces of paper? This game's for you.
Remember when we didn't have transportable maps and had to try to use our brain cells to remember where to go and what to do? yay! this game is for those of us who like this challenge, too.
Do you like a good storyline with a twist at the end? ME, too! And once again, appreciated the journal so I could really follow the story.
As I said, 2012, even though the HOs were tedious standard word lists the creep and challenging factors more than made up for it.
Love it or hate it.. I hated the beta not much changed since then and uninstalled the demo after the first few minutes when I received yet ANOTHER gauntlet !!!!! If I never see another gauntlet to have to use in some gimmicky way it will be too soon.
The alien looks and talks like a movie star.... a lot of mundane puzzles and tasks to complete even though it's so "urgent" that we be there and get things done.
And HARMONIUM AGAIN????????
I adored the first Amaranthine Voyage and every game thereafter has become less and less challenging and interesting.
I've come to believe that this is a series that should be retired.
I don’t know why I was so impressed with the beta.. but just played this horrible demo w/54 mins left.. no attempt at lip movements, expressions on faces don’t always match situation, (i.e. groom smiling when bride found dead in dumbwaiter at the end of the demo), simple tasks, photo album records codes, etc.
And at the very end of the demo the voices all went away and it was read only.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to take advantage of the weekend sale for this game.
I purchased the CE but feel that Eipix needs a special shout out for the SE, too and this is what I said in my review for CE.
An outside reviewer whom I respect rated this game very highly so decided to purchase it and they were so right!
I've been asking Eipix to "up their game" and give us more than eye candy and simple tasks. Asked for more challenge.. they gave it!! Lots to do, inventory to collect and later use in various scenes. Varied Hidden objects.. they gave it !! And even the standard HOs I enjoyed BECAUSE the game so so immersive. Good mix of easy, medium, and hard puzzles (for me).
I have never had the need to look at an Eipix map before but I needed to in this game.. several times! A good solid 4 hours in main game and extra hour in bonus (although would be good as a SE, too, as bonus not needed)

What I REALLY appreciated was the fact that I wasn't forced to collect all the globes in order to access the extras. I really hate it when I purchase a CE and am forced to find all the collectibles before I can access the extras.
What has HAPPENED to Mad Head? Where's the challenge? the innovations that other developers copied? Where anything other than standard hos? I'm sorry but I felt the gameplay and adventure was sub-standard for this developer.. the demo seemed all "eye candy" and little substance for me to sink my teeth into.
I am not usually a fan of Cataia games but this game was superb in every category that counts for me.
The voice overs were over the top! I loved listening to dialogue because I learned so much of the story in this game PLUS a diary (hoorah!).
Old school "combiner" for completing tasks but to me that was just another salute to games past.
Great tranportable map if you need it which is "layered" depending on the terrain you are in and you can use the arrow buttons at the top to check different maps. (something I didn't realize until I was quite close to the end) The hint system worked perfectly if and when needed and since this was finally a game with some challenge I had to use both occassionally...
I played the first game in the series and I felt like I had more fun with this one... (newer twists to the old school feel)
I am writing this review on my second day of playing... good length!
