Oh Man! This game is a total class act from start to finish. A historical game well researched, based on fact......and one compelling mystery at the same time.
The game is gorgeous! Each scene is highly detailed with wonderful crisp graphics and historically acurate....or plausable. Almost every scene, I took time to just soak in the beauty. If you take your time and watch many of the scenes you are rewarded with little animations that play...a goose shaking itself, a cat doing a tongue bath. This is not a horror game, but it has ghosts....and a few of the animations with them gave me a genuine scare.
Puzzles? Everything from sort of easy to omg hard. Great animations......great music.
I hope this company puts out more and more of the same....and tries on some other genres as well!
This review is based on only the fifteen minutes of play, so buyer beware; but at the sale price, it is a worthy buy if you are looking for a relaxing game to spend time with.
I have done this before and been disappointed but this seems a good story and the graphics are clear, historically accurate for the time period, and the straightforward HOS were organized and made sense. I played with the music on because I found it enjoyable.
Each room is set up with particular care to give you a real sense of the personality of the owner. Each of the rooms is pretty historically accurate, and the HOS most of the objects are chosen and placed in a way that makes sense..a few placed to blend in, and a few very difficult to find, but the hint button doesn't take forever and there is no penalty that I can see for overclicking. No time limits. The HOS are very straightforward, nothing to put together or to open, but the graphics are clear and pleasing to look at.
There was one puzzle game so far, and a sneakpeek at the walkthrough reveals there are more. I skipped the first puzzle and there was no penalty.
The story line is done in a way that does not take up a lot of time between scenes, and is straight forward and well done. Some folks might need a dictionary to find out what some objects are.
Ok, I read some of the reviews, and I have not played the game through fully, I like to take my time with a game and savor it when I like it....so I cannot say whether I like the ending or not, but with seeing several so-so reviews, I am afraid many folks will pass up an enjoyable game at a great sale price.
I played the demo of this game when I was a newbie, and I got stuck and very frustrated early on, but I played the first sequel and very much liked it although the game style is quite different than the first one. I am sorry to say the Third sequel didn't catch me, but I will be looking for it on sale, because Elephant makes a very respectable and better than average game. When I came back to the demo this time around, as a far more experienced player, I found it challenging, but very doable.
This version has great voiceovers and animation.and The characters are richly drawn and acted.
Some of the HiOS had items very smalls ome were too light and very hard to find, but not impossible and the hint button recharges quickly.
The "penalty" for over clicking isn't bad and only seems to occur if you click on the same object too often, but there is no screaming banshee.
Sometimes there are a lot of comments to enjoy if you explore the scenes before and after dialogue and games, which I personally love. It took me a little bit to find out how to find these without random clicking, but it was worth it.
there is a map, and though it doesn't take you to any destinations by clicking on it, you can see where you are and what areas are closed.
The artistry of the game is not really crisp and clear, which is what I prefer, but it has a pleasant painterly quality and it is not impossible to see and find what you are looking for.
There are mini games but not enough in my opinion, and not enough variety in the HOGs which are somewhat of the junkyard variety, but are better than some of the garbled layer over layerr over layer hogs I have seen.
I think it is mostly the story line that will keep a gamer happy, but this is not so bad to pass it up on a good deal.

I am sure there will be fans of the game, but I am getting tired of games that are dull and monochromatic, with the simplest looking sets. The exception to this are Big Fish's "Drawn" Series that are so original, and have such great artwork. But that is it. I don't know if this is actually a new game or an old one on re-release, but with such stunning games with sets so gorgeous that I want to take out my magnifying glass, just to see the detail of items chosen, just to set the scene.
This game looks like the developers forgot to take their Prozac. Sorry, but that is how I felt playing out the first twenty minutes.
I want Ambience in a game. I want a story line that lets me know early on if I am going to be engaged in a game. Any good film or book tends to hook viewers in the first fifteen minutes and I believe a game should as well.
Thank you Big Fish for allowing hour long free demos on your games. It saves me a lot of money to try the game out before hand.
I don't recommend this game.

This is a game that cannot decide if it is a game or a digest of the book, with a few poor puzzles and a whole lot of horrible (IMHO) and hard to see, junk jumbles of HOS.
The only good thing about the game in my opinion is the written copy with it's lovely illustration work.
I looked at it out of curiousity because someone who objected to occult or witchy games said this was a game where for once the witch gets burned. I won't be playing the game past this oh so boring and tedious game, so I will never know wich whitch is made toast.
I have rarely been so entranced as I was by this game. The art work, music were really phenomenal and I found the game play both challenging and innovative. What was best of all, is that I felt transported to this world and cannot wait for more games in this franchise.
The Bonus Features finally came up to my standards of what ought to be present in a Collector's Edition. The Bonus Play (Epilogue) had just as much time and attention paid to it as with the main game. Therewas more Concept art than usual as well as more wall papers. Better yet, the game had wonderful animated Cut Scenes and those were included in the Bonus Package.
The art work was a cut above what is in many games, and strove to be different from all other games. The storyline was believable and for once made me actually care about the characters!
The Strategy Guide, which I do not usually use, but want becaue it shows that the developers want gamers to enjoy the experience rather than getting stuck and having to search in hope there is a walkthrough or that someone will find their forum post and answer!
I really wanted to like this game. I found the first two in the series very well done and the look, sounds, vocal overlay on this one are stupendous, but for the first time since starting to play BFGames as an avid casual gamer, I am very tempted to play a more difficult level.
I get a strong feeling here that the developers wanted to fill a demographic niche, older gamers, who do not see well and want uncluttered HOGS and mini-games that look tough, but are unchallenging. Even wandering around looking for the items to put together was easy. so were finding the bonus items
I looked over the achievements list before I started to play, and looked to see what bonus items were offered and what the SG looked like. The achievements list looked wonderful and I a sorry I won’t be going farther to see what all these different ghosts look like….at least I hope there would be ghosts to enjoy. The Bonus menu was not available to see if getting the collectors edition is worth it and nor was the SG. Not being able to look at those is a big no no on my game choosing list.
TThe Developer's earlier games, The Void and Raincliff which had pretty good story lines, make this one look like a lazy effort.
I love camp quirky games so I expected to really enjoy this one. It started off with a great intro and a real fright sequence in the very beginning and I thought to myself, this is going to be great....old style hollywood glamor with horror film camp.......and, well what a disappointing flop! I kept trying to decide if they voice overs were trying to be deliberately annoying as part of the kitsch, but it came down to hey dude! Still annoying!
I wanted to see more movie posters, more stuff by the writers. Inside movie making stuff and got a lot of drearie scenes. I didn't find the HOG scenes all that clear and I got bored by the mini games.and the interaction between perky ms "gotta find mum" and mwahahahahaah mad director.
I gotta give this one two paws down. what a disappointment.

I just finished the first chapter of Mishap and am loving the game although I can see where it wouldn't be to another person's taste. I love the quirky graphics and even pulled out my magnifying glass so I could enjoy the detail. I don't do that for every game, though I wish I could. So many sly jokes hidden in the graphics.
I enjoyed the ghost stories in the logs and the HOS breaks while hunting for them, and even though the REBUS riddle was very easy, had fun with it. Maybe this is a SPOILER, but the game had a point and shoot at the end of the chapter that was great fun, though I wished the ghosts didn't go by as fast because I wanted to enjoy the art work on the different poses. Well worth the buy even at 6.99 if someone likes quirky, bent humor
I love this game. It is so different from most of the games I have found. This one has a great and slightly warped sense of humor pervading the entire game. You can click anywhere and are encouraged to do so because you never know what comments or items will be revealed. The art work is great, the music chosen is fantastic, and the acting quality good. The journal was incredibly fun to read, especially the character bios. The puzzles were challenging and entertaining, with a twist to many of the HOG as you often had to complete an action to get another group of items to collect. The match two were challenging, but also funny at times. I found myslef grabbing a magnifying glass to see everything hidden, especially on the bulletin boards. More games like this will make me a very happy camper indeed ;-D I can't wait to try the sequel. I don't know what changed in the franchise between the first three games in the series and this one, but the change was brilliant!
