This has 4.5 stars with 125 reviews. Obviously lots of people are playing it, and lots of people are rating it highly. The graphics and audio are gorgeous, it has some unique gameplay, and it's not overly easy. Yet this game is nowhere to be found int eh Top 100 list or the Best Rated games list (yet games reviewed by 8 "people" show up on the list). I don't always rate games, but when I do, it's to make a point. I can only speculate that the lack of "advertising" might be due to the producer of the game, but don't let that prevent you from playing this great, lovely, enjoyable game.
I thoroughly enjoyed this game- not only the rich, realistic graphics, and interesting location. Most games I ignore the "storyline" but this is one that I actually followed (and enjoyed, of course). I sure hope they continue this franchise. If you like games with live-action (live actors vs. animated/drawn), you will love this game, as there is a lot of live action from actors that meld well with the environment. I specifically logged in to give this a 5 star rating to help this little gold nugget out.
I recommend this game!

I thought I would enjoy the game since I enjoy the show, but the game felt very flat. Without having the original actor's voice's, this game feels like a very cheap knockoff.
It's sad that ten years later Syberia still outshines most games. It's graphics, story, and voice-over acting are still better than most of the games put out today. I think it's great they're putting it out again, and I'm glad they made sure to mention that it is the original Syberia (since it's being launched as a new release). Now if only they could re-release the Myst series.
I gave 5 stars for the game play alone, because I would like to encourage other developers from making light, fun, whimsical games like this one. I think that the gameplay is in line with the fantastic & amazing Munchausen adventsures in the 1988 movie. I liked Munchausen's voiceover when using items (and wrongly using items), the morphing of buildings & scenery from one scene to the next, and the original puzzles. This is not a traditional HO. There are "association" puzzles where you match an item to something that is somehow associated with that object. There are also "motion" puzzles where you have to determine which items in your inventory to place where in order for a mouse-trap/domino type effect to create your end goal. It's original and fun! However, everyone's right... this game isn't just a little short, it's shamefully short! Come on, Joy Bits.... spend a little more money for more game time, and you'll find that more people will purchase your game and not just play the demo. If Joy Bits doesn't listen, I sure hope other developers do. Please please please... invest in more games like this one and not the same ol' dark-supernatural-ghost-save your sister/child-stuff that's been done to death.
Pro's: You can pick up ANY item on the screen and haggle with the owner on the price, then turn around and resell it in your store OR take a gamble and take it to auction. The graphics are pretty good, and the various locations give you plenty to have to remember (where did I see that diving helmet now that the "hot items" are maritime items?) Con's: I totally ignored my kid the first night I played this. Also, I found that I made more money just looking for items that I thought were a steal, rather than focusing on the hot items. I also found that I made more money at auction, so I rarely sold items in my store. It was extremely satisfying to find a hidden treasure that you thought was worth something, and take it to auction, and make a 400% profit on it (jackpot sale). If you liked American Roadshow, I think you will enjoy this game even more!
Pro's: original puzzles, characters are fully animated (almost look like live action. Con's: scenery graphics aren't the best, and the HO graphics are pretty grainy. Although it's not hte most original story out there, I have to admit that I found myself following the story more than most games because of the way it was presented, and because the fully animated characters were more engaging. Keep in mind that I didn't play past the hour demo. I certainly wouldn't pay CE price. If the devs had spent as much time on the HO & scenery graphics as they did on the character animation, it may have captured my attention more.
Yes, I've played and loved the other Drawn games. This one took a while for me to warm up to it because the element of jumping into a painting is gone. Instead you are always in a canvas and move to another "area" by repairing a page you are already in. And when you repair a page it is just a gaping black space; you lose the glee of seeing a 2D painting and jumping into the 3D version of it and walking around in places you didn't see in the 2D painting. The best thing about this Drawn game is that you now have a pop-up book and you collect pages in each area. The pop-up page requires you to pull tabs, slide tabs and do other pop-up type activity that you have to "solve" in order to get an item that you need. These were highly entertaining, and I would have liked to have seen more done with this. There were a couple of occasions where the game-play mechanics made me want to shoot it (for example: (spoiler) using a stick on a flame and it not lighting so I thought it wasn't the right solution, when in fact it was but I apparently didn't hold it just right. There were multiple examples of frustration from me just not clicking "correctly"). Overall, Drawn Trail of Shadows is an excellent and beautiful game that is immersive and challenging. However, I hope for the next one, that the devs tighten up the mechanics a bit, and bring back the "jumping into pictures" effects.
Pro's: non-static scenery, original puzzles, not HO (instead you collect fragmented pieces of objects like in Treasure Seekers), collecting morphing objects, map. I also liked the winter scenes. Con's: puzzles were too easy, basic graphics, not HO (it's too easy to find the fragments to collect; I didn't even have to look at the bottom to know what to collect, i just had to look for out of place items in the scene). Most annoying was the mouse cursor changes to a magnifying glass for just about everything, including if there's some comment on an object (this doesn't make sense, the magnifying glass cursor is universal with "click here to look closer". I forced myself to play through the demo to see why I didn't like it but so many others did. It's not bad... I just don't think it has any elements that make it a GOOD game.
Pro's: live action (live recorded people vs cg), original story, map, intuitive UI, interactive HO scenes, in game strategy guide, nonstatic scenes (objects like steam that moves in the scenes), 3 levels of expertise Cons: "painting" style graphics (vs cg), no voiceovers on commentary, hint system tells you what to do outright instead of actually hinting, standard non-original puzzles, when wrong item is used a comment almost tells you exactly what you need to use. This game has a lot going for it. If the graphics were cg rather than paintings, and if the hint system wasn't so obvious, this game would have gotten 5 stars from me. I also like that the story line is original; it's not going for the "spooky/dark/creepy" vibe that most are going for these days, which is extremely refreshing
