First of all, my hand got tired in the first 30 minutes of playing the demo due to all the times I had to hit skip. If it wasn't a drawn out conversation, it was a cut scene...it took what felt like hours just to advance to another part of the same scene. And all the extra blabbing and chores made me zone out of the storyline within minutes...I truly didn't care about what was afflicting the main characters or if the evil ones took everything over.
The next issue is that you are shown blue outlines for anywhere that needs pieces put in it, or knocked out of it, or sewn shut, etc. Hey, devs, why not just program the game to automatically do those things since you've already led the player to the spot to see the outlines?
The HOPs and games I encountered were extremely easy (and some had the dreaded blue outlines in them to boot)...and there were spells to be performed, evil to be dealt with before you can do anything else in a scene...
Overall, this is just a super easy and drawn-out game. I could see beginners enjoying it, but I prefer less gabbing and handholding, and more challenge. But, try it for yourself before buying.
I don't recommend this game.

I made it through about 10 minutes of the demo before deleting it. The problem? A tired old storyline, mysterious pink fog that requires a respirator that must be put on/taken off, the number of people who must be spoken to with each scene, and (as another reviewer stated) the usual dry lantern that you have to search for various items to light it, all the usual stuck/broken things you have to run around to find pieces for. The only way to mute the voices is to turn off one of the sound controls, so you won't get to hear either the special effects or ambient sound (I forget which it was) and, instead of relying on the actual voice of the character speaking to convey their emotions, the large, added subtitles also print what emotion is being conveyed! Really?? Then there are all the banners and pointers that continually block your view as you are told every single objective, place you should look, how many of what you have just collected...nothing is left for the player to figure out.
I managed to get to one HOP (find 12 of each of the listed items), and it was nothing new or special. Add to this that there are just two things to collect and no morphs, and there are only a small number of achievements to attain...this is not CE worthy, even if I were to waste credits on it.
Definitely try before you buy!
I don't recommend this game.

I wanted to get through the demo, hoping that the positive reviews were right...but they weren't.
This game is the same as the previous ones only wearing a different shroud. Arrive at the scary location, chat with the detective, search all the bushes and weeds for stuff that will get you in the house, go inside, see something scary, chat with the detective, etc. There are lots of conversations and cutscenes, and, with all the hand-holding during puzzles, I don't know why the devs even bothered to put them in the game...the game shows you where each item goes!
I am sure there are those who like the series no matter what, and beginners might find all the hand-holding helpful, but I think it's high time Dupin retired along with this series.
I don't recommend this game.

I don't understand the 5-star reviews...the frequency of conversations killed this game for me in less than 30 minutes. On top of that are all the hand-holding icons, silently telling you 'look at this, you need to use something', then followed by text prompts spelling it out for you when you touch whatever the item/location is.
The graphics are stilted and dull. Couldn't even get interested in the storyline. There was no challenge to the puzzle I encountered after what felt like hours of having to converse with people.
I can see where young or beginner players, or players who love to feel connected to the game characters, would enjoy this; and I can agree with whoever said it was nice to have a game that didn't feature glowing-eyed monsters and weird creatures (I'll throw in fairies for good measure). I didn't encounter any 'magical potion' kits, helpers, gadgets, etc., which is another HUGE plus, but I don't know if any pop up beyond the point where I deleted the demo.
Definitely a 'try before you buy' game. With just 20-or-so large, morphing coins to find, this isn't bling-worthy enough to buy as a CE...if you like the game, wait for the SE, but try it first.
I don't recommend this game.

I bought this game while still in the early part of the demo because I loved it so much. It is very similar in feel to Leaves: The Journey and Leaves 2: The Return (BFG, PLEASE give us more games like these???), which I also loved.
Your character (and her raven companion, who moves you from scene to scene) is based on a Norse tale. The object is to manipulate the scenes so you can collect the floating feathers to restore your stolen wings. It is possible to be 'harmed' by being run over by a big stone ball, falling into an abyss, etc., in which case that scene resets and you must start it again.
Unlike other players who mentioned having a tutorial, I was plunged right into the game. Not a problem for me; I just fiddled around a bit until I got the gist of it. Which brings me to my only 'complaint'...when I completed the first chapter the game wouldn't go further (and may explain my lack of tutorial). I reported it and BFG has now released an update that WORKED!! So, if anyone else had a similar problem and thought it was their fault at not being able to figure out how to get the next chapter to open, download the update and you will be able to enjoy the game again.
If you like being challenged, this is your game! The controls are simple, left and right mouse buttons for rotating the scenery and jumping, and left, right, up and down directional keys for moving around. No collectibles, no gadgets, no helpers, no conversations! Just you and your brain.
I recommend this game!

This is the kind of game I have been waiting for!!! No tedious running around, looking for little bits and pieces to use somewhere else, no looking for a safety pin to open a zipper, practically no interaction with characters...yet Eipix managed to have a storyline and plot, and it wasn't the same-old-same-old evil things kidnapping a child or princess, blah, blah, blah.
This is a map-driven game. As you progress, the different rooms and floors change and you can select where you want to go from those presented. LOTS of morphs!! While you revisit rooms for the HOPS, the objects aren't always easy to spot; and there are Super Puzzles where there are no clear instructions for solving...it's all keep trying different things until something happens...LOVE THOSE!
For those who love to hold endless conversations, have revamped storylines and plots, helpers, gadgets, formulas to mix, this isn't going to please. For those of us who just want to wade in and be immersed in HOPs and puzzles without all the chatting, running around, and fighting off evil wizards, etc., this is a winner!
The only downer is you can't go back and change the level of difficulty once you select one and start playing.
Madam Fate was the first game I ever bought on BFG, and it's wonderful to see all the characters from the series.
I recommend this game!

I will cut to the chase:
I played the demo on Custom mode and chose no tutorial. The first thing that happened when I got to the first location was a tutorial bubble appeared and told me what to look for!
Everywhere I went, everything I looked at, produced an instructional bubble that told me either what the object was (I KNOW what a door is...), instructed me to do something, or commented on the scenery, etc.
WAY TOO MUCH CONVERSATION! I will give the devs a little credit for allowing them to be skipped, but there were still areas where more than one conversation was in play and I had to keep hitting the skip button. It seemed like more of a time filler than a necessary function unless you really find the plot and storyline so interesting that you want to be immersed in it...obviously, I didn't.
Lots of running around, revisiting close-ups where things were found before (like parts for things that kept breaking).
There are only atomic symbols to find...no morphs or other collectibles. Not worthy as a CE game.
Even playing at a very casual pace (and periodically getting up to do some other things) I finished the demo with 45 minutes to spare, which leads me to believe that this will be a quick play indeed on the whole 7 chapter game. The 'thanks for playing' message at the end made me think this was just an updated version of the beta...usually the games just stop cold...maybe because other games have more content in their demos.
The only positive thing I can say are that the HOPs and puzzles were okay. Not great, but okay.
I don't recommend this game.

Thank you BFG for providing this game! It requires the player to think and pay close attention to EVERYTHING, and then figure out what to do.
The storyline is simple: you are stuck in a dream, and the only way to get unstuck is to figure out how, and wake up.
The graphics are deliberately simple, which I think enhances the overall ambiance; it also makes any of the creepy factor more amusing than scary. As has been said by others, the developers have a sense of humor. The music and effects are nicely done. Be aware that the game autosaves only periodically, so if you exit without having just seen the autosave alert, you will re-enter the game at the point at which it last saved you...which could mean the previous chapter.
There are things to poke at everywhere. They tend to be subtle, which I think makes them more amusing. And, despite complaints that there is no hint system, you do get direction and hints from those you meet along the way.
The game is blessedly free of long-winded characters, magic gadgets, potions to mix, and helpers...no diseases, spells, wizards, tormented lovers, or missing relatives. Not even one missing zipper pull!! I haven't finished my first play of it yet, but I was delighted to encounter a couple of mini-puzzles along the way. In a way, the whole game is one big mini-puzzle.
You start the game with no status. If you do something good -- or, rather, you make a kind choice instead of a mean choice -- you earn a 'good' status. Once you do something 'bad' you slip from 'good' to 'neutral'...one more 'bad' act and you become irreversibly 'bad', so relax and enjoy the ride! Your choices affect the game play and how situations get resolved, but you don't die, and replaying the game will allow you to see the differences if you do something another way. Despite my best efforts to be 'good', my status turned to 'bad' early on, so I am looking forward to finishing my first playing of it in order to go back and play it again to see if I can make it through as a kinder, gentler me, lol!
Definitely NOT a game for children! There is enough of a creepy factor that it would be unsettling for them, and I think the fact it is a 'thinking' game would be too frustrating.
I have read that this is part of a whole series so, please, BFG, give us MORE!!!
I recommend this game!

I honestly thought that I would play about 5 minutes of the demo and then delete it because I haven't enjoyed other junk pile games before. However, this game isn't like the others! This sort of combines the niceties of old fashioned HOPs (just searching through stuff to find what you need...no storybook format, find and replace, shadows, etc.), 'flip and find' tile match games, a couple of different junk pile varieties, and jigsaw and slide the strips picture games. I might have missed something, but I'm sure this will at least get your attention if you are looking for something a little different. There are 91 puzzles in all.
I like that, while it has a storyline -- which I don't really care about -- it is done in a very unobtrusive way, yet has enough presence to please those who enjoy following a story and characters...easy to skip through if you just want to play the games. There are hidden crystals in all the junk pile and HOP games, and finding them will earn you extra hints.
You can choose your level of play. Because I play games to relax, I chose the super casual that doesn't limit your time to complete each puzzle.
My only problem with the game is that it is addictive!!
I recommend this game!

Based on the demo.
Good parts: Nice graphics, sounds, music (I always mute voices, so no idea how those went). Interactive map that also shows when you have found all the collectibles and morphs in each scene. The game seems to move along without excessive back-and-forthing or having more than maybe two or three places where you have something to do. No helpers! Two different types of collectibles and a morph in every area.
Bad parts: Another game full of people you must interact with...yes, you can hit skip, but the encounters are often multiple parts, so I felt like I was sitting and banging away on the skip icon for longer than the actual time spent searching for things and moving along. Plus, the 'helpful' text banners kept popping up, were overly large, and just hung there way past what was necessary and prevented me from seeing quite a bit of the screen. The dialog texts with all the intrusive characters were even larger and slower (which is why I hammered away on the skip icon) than the 'helpful' text banners! And, despite not having any helpers, there was yet again another weird gadget that must be fiddled with periodically before you can do anything else.
Not much challenge, but I did enjoy the HOPs (except the annoying storybook ones); puzzles were okay; would love to have less handholding.
Good for easy breezy play, but it just seems like another game of missing/dead/cursed family member(s) and/or evil things that the player must deal with...give us something new, please? I would recommend for beginners and those who enjoy this series. I may use a couple of credits and get this to kill some time, but I wouldn't pay full price for it.
I recommend this game!
