I am sorry that I took the word of reviewers who said there were redeeming qualities to this game. The graphics weren't even up-to-date for when the game was released -- they look like early games when I had to swap floppies every few minutes to continue! Items in the HOPs were difficult to see, and some weren't even visible when I had set the brightness according to the instructions. The map is useless as it isn't interactive. If there is a strategy guide, I never found it. Everything required constant back and forth travels, and the trips weren't short, so every task took forever.
I am very glad I only wasted a coupon credit on this!
I don't recommend this game.

This is based on playing most of the demo...I stopped because I couldn't stand another minute of being told what to do. It is like the developers couldn't decide whether to target beginners or very young players via hints and guidance, or teens and adults through level of difficulty of puzzles and reasoning.
I don’t like voiceovers, and there’s no mute or skip for the too frequent dialogue. I could live with that, but the developers felt compelled to hand hold their players by telling us what to do, and when and where to do it with marked indicators and commands like ‘TAKE A PEEK’ and 'RUN', and then preventing the player from doing anything but that action. That includes if you play on ‘expert’ mode. Plus, the tutorial shows up in both ‘advanced’ and ‘expert’ mode despite allegedly being unavailable.
I had stopped playing the demo after about 30 minutes because of the intrusive hand holding, then decided to give it another try in case things got better. They didn’t. After a very enjoyable period of gameplay in the motel, the tutorial again interrupted me and forced me to do what it commanded, and then the developers chose to guide me step-by-step, literally, when they forced my character to leave the area. It was like getting into a great movie and repeatedly having the film break #or, for those who don't remember film projectors, having the DVD skip#. That did it for me.
Beyond that, I loved the graphics, music, sounds, and interactive map; liked that I did have to think about what needed to be done when the game wasn't trying to spoil that fun for me; and found the puzzles and HOPs pleasant and not overly easy. Occasionally there was a bit too much back and forth action for my taste, and was too fussy every time I needed to switch my multi-tool from one type to the other, but I could get past that if the rest of the game would let me move along.
I am extremely disappointed. This game showed a lot of promise and I truly enjoyed it when it wasn't ordering me around or letting me make decisions on my own. I am just glad I didn't buy before trying it!
Crazy as it may seem, I am recommending it with the caveat that it is great for beginners, but likely to frustrate players who don't want to be micro-managed. Developers, PLEASE take note! Make your advanced and expert modes truly advanced and expert!
I recommend this game!

I played about 10 minutes of the demo using the 'custom' skill level before buying the game. I totally agree with one reviewer who was completely annoyed with the nonresponsive remarks whenever you click on something because you are investigating it or trying to solve it with the wrong item -- they made no sense whatsoever! For example, I clicked on a cord, with just the cursor, to see if it was something I needed to deal with, and got something like "A good tool, but not useful here". That was in the main game...the bonus round actually has appropriate remarks to what you are attempting.
I also agree with another reviewer who complained about how touchy the game is when it comes to where your cursor is when interacting with objects. I tried about 20 different times - in 3 re-visits to one area - to have my companion ermine retrieve something of a good size, and no matter where I placed him on or near the object, I got one of those frustrating responses and he was sent back empty-pawed. I FINALLY clicked him just right and he was successful. That is one of many, many instances of this in the main game.
What REALLY frosted my cookies was, after I completed the main game, I accidentally clicked 'Play' in the main game section and it restarted the game without a courtesy message that I'd already completed it and should create a new user...and it wiped out my collected masks!! Maybe they designed it that way, but it seems like a bad choice if they did. So, starting the bonus round I am back to mask #1, yet all my other achievements remain intact. I am VERY disappointed!
Beyond that, the game played in a logical manner without constantly having to wonder what the heck the next step should be. I enjoyed the HOS and the puzzles/minigames. I am not one for storylines, conversations, or caring if the costumes and locations are correct for whatever the time period is, so can't comment on those. I love the custom difficulty level and voice mute options. I enjoyed the scenery, ambiance and the music. The interactive map worked well, especially with all the places that had to be revisited, and the hint button was a useful one.
I am only about 15 minutes into the bonus round and wish the main game had been more like it during my explorations, but am glad I played it.
I recommend this game!

Finished! I enjoyed the morphs (my absolute favorite thing in games); found the HOS not too difficult for the most part, but some items were almost hidden beneath the inventory bar, or were too indistinct to be seen without the hint (like something that was supposed to be under or inside a net -- couldn't see it at all!#; the puzzles were entertaining.
What this needs #in my opinion# is an interactive map, a locking inventory bar #this one is way too sensitive and just keeps bobbing up and down at the wrong times#, a separate volume control for the voices #I am not a fan of speech in games and try to buy games that allow me to mute just the voices so I can still enjoy the music, environment and special effects sounds), the ability to leave a puzzle and return to it instead of having to skip the puzzle, and a walkthrough!!
Progress through the game was nicely done as far as being able to pretty much deduce where to go, although I found it annoying that sometimes it looked like there were still things to do at a given location in a room or whatever, but there was never a need to be looking at the spot again; the scenery was pleasant.
Would have loved to played longer...hope this game company will come up with a sequel or other similar adventure but make it longer.
I recommend this game!

Just finished the standard version of this game and really enjoyed it.
The graphics and music are nice (I always mute voices, so can't tell how those were#; the animated child's drawings were amusing. On Expert/Advanced mode the hints recharged faster than many other games, which really helped as there is no map to let you know where there are things to do or where the heck you are. Probably not an issue if you can sit and play for extended periods of time, but when I had to start and stop it made it hard for me to remember what I was in the middle of so I relied on the hint skull to point me in the direction I needed to go when memory failed me. #I also prefer an interactive map to let me jump to locations when all areas remain available and used throughout the game...maybe that would be a minor frustration worth mentioning?)
The mix of HOS and puzzles kept things interesting, and there were enough tougher puzzles, variety of puzzles and harder to spot objects to make me want to play this one again. It did seem like the further into the game I got, the more the programmers lost interest in including more than one or two items in HOS's that required extra action to find them. Too bad as they had some fun things for those. Would have loved some morphs in it.
Overall I really enjoyed this one as a game that kept my interest, entertained me without frustrating me, and left me wanting to play it again. I will look for more games from this group!
I recommend this game!

Nice graphics; not too easy, nor too hard. Nice variety of puzzles. Wish it had a better hint system and/or map because the download time between nearly everything you do is AWFUL! And I am playing on a new laptop that is loaded and fast. It is so annoying that I am going to use the walkthrough so I don't waste any more time going back and forth with all the added waiting bogging things down. It's a shame because the game itself would be pretty good if it moved along.
I don't recommend this game.
