I was leery about playing this one because the recent additions to the series haven't been as good as I expected. This one was really good. It kept me interested and wanting to play more. It also had some humorous moments and was fun to play. I hope the next one in the series is as good as this one!
I have started just ignoring a games' reviews, especially if they are mostly bad. If I know and like the developer I feel I should try it out for myself. People have different tastes in what makes a game fun. This one was fun to me and that's what determines if I buy a game or not.
I recommend this game!

I really enjoyed playing this game! My 5 year old granddaughter thought it was great fun also.

I have 4 main things I rate a game on:
Graphics: Fantastic
Storyline: Very intriguing!! I want to find out how this story ends! (I have only finished the demo so far) The developers have written a story that doesn't have any paranormal stuff in sight! This game is proving to me that it can be done. A game can be interesting and fun without all the witches and demons!
Mini-games: Unique and challenging enough to make them fun.
Fun Factor: When you combine all of the previous criteria together and you end up with the "Wow" factor then you have a 5 star game!
I recommend this game!

This kind of game used to be called a large file game. If you think of the Nancy Drew games, this one reminds me of those games. If you are looking for hidden object scenes and an easy game to play, this is NOT it. If you are looking for a challenging, stump your brain game, THIS IS IT!
The graphics are hand-drawn and are quite clear. They do not have all the gorgeous colors and scenery to look at but that's not to say it wasn't interesting to look around and try to discover all the things Hercule Poirot had to say about everything.
I love all the conversations with the different characters and slowly finding out more about them. Trying to figure out who the murderer is was really tough. There are other viable suspects who are only cleared at the end.
My favorite part of these kinds of games though, is that the questions that you pick to ask the suspects (and with what kind of attitude) does determine some outcomes in the game. If you pick the wrong ones It will also get you some very humorous achievement awards. Make sure to read through all of the achievements, they are pretty funny towards the end. The ones at the beginning of the list were very routine and monotonous but skip over to the end ones. It would be worth replaying just to see the different circumstances that change if you deliberately pick the ones you know would not be the ones Poirot would pick!
This game does have a hint button and the loading screen between scenes tells you clearly how to find it. However, it takes about 10 minutes to reload. I used the hint about 5 times during the game. I probably would have used it more but I went and found the walkthrough for this game. I only looked at it when I was stuck for quite awhile and had no idea how to do something or what I had missed. The hint button, I'm happy to say, did not skip the mini-games but rather gave you part of the answer or showed you the first thing you had to do. Then you still had to figure it out from there. Love it!!
I know this is a newer game (2016) but it plays like the games from 10 or 20 years ago, like the ones I love to play! You have to think, you can't just hit the hint button every few minutes, or teleport on the map (there isn't one). It has an excellent storyline that pulls you in rather quickly. I kept playing every opportunity I had for 3 days so I could find out more about the suspects and figure out who the murderer was!
I hope there are more games like this one slated to come out in the future! I did find some other Agatha Christie games made in the past that are large file games and I had missed buying them. "And Then There Were None" "Murder on the Orient Express" and "Evil Under the Sun" Sadly, they are not for sale here on Big Fish anymore but I did find them somewhere else in a triple pack! I can't wait to play them too!
I recommend this game!

I am happy to report that this game does not have even a smidgeon of anything remotely connected to the paranormal. There were no chants, rituals, ghosts, demons, or witches!
So what does this game have? It has a really good detective story in which we play the detective and find clues. We interrogate suspects and establish alibis. I found the game to be very interesting. It was fun playing detective.
I finished the whole game, including the bonus. It is a very long game. I did use the map sometimes, because once in awhile there was an object in the inventory that wasn't used for awhile and I had to travel back through several scenes to find where it went. Mostly, though the inventory items were used pretty quick.
The graphics were very good. I thought the lighthouse display was cool. There were some cute gargoyles in one part that I liked, especially the incorporation of one of the mini-games using the gargoyles. Super awesome!
There were not as many mini-games in this game as I like (I love them to be in every scene) but it was still fun.
I recommend this game!

This game had some of the same dilemmas that are encountered in other games but in this one I could use unexpected things from my inventory to fix them. It made me think a little bit more! So much more interesting to play a game like this.
The storyline is mostly believable and very interesting. I liked the story and also the setting of the story. The scenes were nice to encounter and looked very appropriate for the time period the game takes place in.
As for the mini-games, some of them were very unique. It was easy to understand the directions for the games but not so easy to accomplish beating the games. I had to skip 2 of them and I love mini-games. I tried for a long time to come up with the solutions but ended up throwing in the towel. But I still had fun playing them, I just wish I would have been able to figure it out! I should have bought the C.E. with the strategy guide so I could have figured out how to do them!
I had fun playing this game and that is my most important criteria for how many stars I give a game. I will replay it when I run out of good new games to play.
I recommend this game!

I was hooked on the game less than 2 minutes into the demo and knew I was going to buy this one! Such a fantastic storyline that kept me wondering what was going on!
Graphics were fabulous! Absolutely amazing.
The games were gambling related games, some I had never heard of! They required thinking and were downright fun!
In fact, the whole game was fun to play! I'm very happy I tried this game out and purchased it!
I recommend this game!

I am not a fan of these types of stories but I do love to play games that are interesting and keep moving. This one does that. I loved the graphics and the music was appropriate.
The first 5 or 10 minutes did not pull me into the game (the cutscenes with the main storyline) but I kept playing for a few minutes more and was soon so busy going from one mini-game to the next that the trial period was over before I knew it! I do remember a couple of HOs in there also. If the whole game is like this, I would be happy with my purchase.
My collection of objects to use were logical and not too far away from the place that needed to use them.
My review is for the demo only (which I finished). It is based on this game only, not comparing it to the 1,000s of games out there in this genre, or even the previous games in this series. A game should stand or fall on it's own merit. This one stands.
Bottom line that determines if I buy a game or not is if it was fun to play. I had fun. Try the game for yourself and see if you have fun too.
I recommend this game!

I finished the entire game plus the bonus game yesterday. What a treat! It has everything I love when I play these games.
Graphics: Fantastic!
Storyline: Interesting (Even though it has been done before)
Puzzles: There were lots of puzzles and most were able to choose your level of difficulty--so they were fun and the right level of difficulty for me when I set it on hard.
Fun to play: Yes! I didn't feel that the game bogged down anywhere. It was fun from beginning to end of bonus.
Collectables: There were 3 different kinds of things to collect. I found all of them!
Length of game: It seemed long. Everytime I thought it was close to the end of the game another area would open up!
Overall impression of the game: I had fun playing this game. In fact, when I was playing the bonus chapter, my granddaughter came along and wanted to help play. When we finished the game, she liked it so much she wanted to start her own game from the beginning! I wouldn't mind replaying this one myself sometime.
I loved it and hope you do too, but don't take my word for it. Play the free trial yourself. You might have different taste in games than me.
I recommend this game!

I enjoyed this game immensely! The graphics were so enchanting in each scene that I looked around before completing the tasks at hand!
The story was intriguing and engaging. There was a villain and a hero (me, of course). There were no ghosts or demons in sight! It was a delight to play from beginning to end. I am going to replay this game with my granddaughters, I'm positive they will like it as much as I did! (And it is family friendly)
However, I really wish I had bought the collector's edition so I could have wallpaper for my computer from some of the scenes!
I recommend this game!

This is the first H.O. game that I bought here on Big Fish Games back in 2007. I became an avid fan of the genre and especially this series, Mystery Case Files after completing this game. I replayed this game recently after I bought the Mystery Case Files: Rewind game. I wanted to see how close they made the Rewind game to this original game. It is very close. This one is harder. I like this one because the H.O. lists are never the same, so If you have to replay a level when the time runs out, you are not going to be searching for the exact same list of objects!
If you have never played this game and you enjoy puzzles, I suggest you give it a try. Be aware, however, that it doesn't play in full screen. At least not on my computer running Windows 10. In spite of that I still loved playing this game again!
I recommend this game!
