Murder, mansion, nasty family, storm, dumb policeman. Good stuff: It's only a demo. Bad stuff: Everything about this game you've seen before - over and over and over. As the new entry for the Haunted Legends series, this game does a serious disservice to the series and gamers. It is so sad to see how low the series has gone. And trying to describe this debacle is more than I can do. Logic is a foreign language to the developers and reason is lost to them. Just keep reminding yourself that it is only a demo - you can quit when ever you want. And I did. This was bad enough to make me encourage you to take a look - so long as you remember that you can leave at any time.

Help! What were they thinking? Oliver and Wendy ran away from the orphanage to break into a house to steal. Berta is the evil being who has taken Wendy and Jack Frost has stopped time so Oliver can do some good deeds and save his sister from Berta. This story is so mixed up that I don't know where to begin. Wendy looked to be in her early teens and old enough to know what she was doing, so no sympathy here. Berta is a malevolent spirit who stops Wendy in mid-heist and burns money to get a young couple Oliver is practicing his good deeds on into deep trouble. She is helped by a nasty little imp who is given to mean little tricks like ripping up photos. Don't worry though - Oliver is helped by Goody, a small elf who wants to turn over a new leaf. Good stuff: You don't have to play this game. Bad stuff: Artwork is cartoon like and strongly colored - one scene very blue, another very gray, then very blue. The mini-games are basic and ill-conceived. The game pulls you along with a constant barrage of things to find to put things together, to open doors, cabinets, boxes, cases and anything else they could put something inside or hide something behind. There is no rhyme or reason here to what Oliver is doing as he is performing his "good deed" by taking apart or destroying parts of someone's home and Christmas decorations. I'm going to run with the idea that someone, somewhere, meant well. They just did not think this through all the way. If they had, I'm sure Oliver would not be the little thief breaking into Jim's home and trashing his briefcase while trying to get his sister a "Get Out of Jail Free" card for her attempt at burglary, while Berta would not alternately stop thieves and ruin people's lives arbitrarily. Try the Demo for yourself and go back to wrapping presents.

Story lite and impossible challenge heavy, the new addition to the Jewel Board Match 3 games is a no go for me. I have played many of them repeatedly, especially the ones that combine Match 3 and HOP’s. This game, however, turned out to be more stress driven than fun. The challenges start off fairly simple and the story is a line or two under the next jewel board’s intro. The artwork is flat and the game mechanics a throwback to the beginning of this game line. And then you get to level 9. You are to ring bells by creating ship wheels and having them move across the board to ring the bells far over to the sides and in the bottom row. The only way the ship wheels will get there is to place them also in the bottom row – except you have limited moves and the bottom row is single squares with spaces in between. After going through level 9 twice, I realized not only the futility of playing further, but also that I was way more stressed than anything else. I do not play games to raise my stress levels. I’m skipping this Jewel Board and replaying one of the older ones – which, by the by, look as fresh as this one and are relaxing! Maybe one of the Jewel Quest Mysteries!

Adam West, a paranormal investigator, has been investigating the case of his sister, Allie, who disappeared several years ago. Along with that ongoing job, he is presently helping his ex-coworkers on the SFPD with a recent rash of arson fires. Tonight he is chasing an arsonist through the streets, almost catches up to him in an alley, follows him into the sewers, fights him hand to hand, and finally shoots him. He takes evidence off the body, which he does not tell his police buddy, Marv, about when he calls him. Adam goes home, has his recurring dream about his missing sister, jerks awake, and finds someone has been in his apartment. He finds evidence leading to a local art gallery, goes to explore, manages to stay the night, and wakes to a fire in the gallery. An evil entity attacks him as he battles the blaze with a hand held fire extinguisher. Good stuff: This is a gritty story with several intense moments, good bones and good characterizations. Adam has a phone to call his cronies in the SFPD, check his current tasks, and take and send photos, as well as a watch that lets him observe things in the past. Neither is overused. Bad stuff: The flashback to Adam's nightmare of his sister is seen a couple of times; once was enough. The game also suffers from the recent lack of logic seen in many recent games - our hero uses his feet to kick open a sewer grate to catch up to the bad guy the first time, and the bad guy, standing a couple yards away pays no attention till Adam is standing up. After he shoots the man, he calls Marv, who sends Adam home to bed rather than wait till the police arrive! What was really confusing is the other reviews. I had a Demo that mentioned a chapter to demo and a second chapter was listed, presumably as the next part of the story. But some people apparently saw something very different and had a choice of demos and more chapters. I'd suggest trying the game just to see what you'll get. My demo took me 30 minutes to finish, although that is not the end of the story. I liked the protagonist and the story was interesting. I'm willing to bet a game coupon that the game will be entertaining. I just wish I knew what I'm missing - if anything!

Along with some other well known authors, You have been invited to participate in a contest to write the biography of a reclusive millionaire. Naturally there will be murder to start your adventure, more murder to come, and everyone will be a suspect. And we're off! Good stuff: Clever varied HOPs with a Bubble Shooter alternative, mini-games, good clear artwork, and a mystery to solve. Bad stuff: I was never a fan of examining the body in the DR games, and the new "deductions" you make by looking at the characters are NOT a step up - You are either forming conclusions from little to no evidence - Bags under your eyes - you are tired from traveling - or the deduction is so blatant it is embarrassing - I'm holding your ID - Yes, you are who you say you are, at least according to this ID! As most of the other game elements are tending back toward the stellar attributes of "Brassfield Manor" and "Silvermoon Isle," I'm just going to be grateful for small gifts and appreciate that this entry in the Dead Reckoning series is so much better than the last two efforts. Please try the Demo and keep an eye out for clues - in this twisting story, you'll need to pay attention!

You stepped into a capsule and found yourself in another world, one created out of bytes and more beautiful than you could have imagined. But there is more, lots more. You had been a player in the VR world until a serious mishap sent you out of it, never to return. Now your two best friends, Stephen and Jean, are part of an agency that is investigating other players' disappearances from VR, leaving their bodies in comas in the real world. Jean is now one of the comatose patients. Can you summon the courage to dive back in and help Stephen solve the threat that now stalks the VR players? The excitement has just begun! Good stuff: A very real VR world, multi-layered HOPs, good mini-games, good characterizations, an intriguing story, along with collectible flowers and figurines with a mix of other CE bling. Bad stuff: For some reason, the animation in the opening scene in the real world is laughable. And there are mono chromatic scenes in the VR world that indicate a sudden love of blue. Mostly, this new addition to the Surface series is well done with a immersive story that pulls you along. I'm so glad to see a new game that brings players back to the glory days of the series! I want to dive back in and save my friends and the other victims. Please try the Demo soon!

Poor gardener's son plays with the princess and they fall in love. How the Queen missed this possibility is beyond me. Naturally she is determined to keep them apart, but the young man goes off and finds his fortune and returns, equally determined to marry his love. Now he will work his way up, restoring regal estates to attain enough status to marry his princess. Good stuff: This is a Match 3 with so many things going on, I felt dizzy. There are levels of play, bonus levels, coins popping up, pieces that move, shake, explode, glitter, and transform. There are bonus games and treasure boxes to upgrade. Bad stuff: In the end, it is a Match 3 game. I didn't see any thing that made it worth doubt price. In addition, the music is loud - no matter how much I turned it down, it worked it's way back up to annoying volume. And those pieces that shake rattle and roll tend to be more distracting than anything else. Also, there were pop up messages that had to be "answered" before you could continue to play. Mostly the constant barrage of new play facets coming at me just left me wondering if I was even doing a good job of playing the game. I kept wondering if I had missed some bit of strategy or bonus. Bottom line, from the levels apparently available, this should be a virtually endless game. And I like a Match 3 or puzzle game as a counterpoint to the HOPAs, but not at the CE price. Try the demo and see what you think.

Things don't look good for the Queen's Royal Photographer, George Pritchard, who has disappeared during his stay at Huxley's Boarding House. The boarding house is a huge Victorian era mansion run on a very strict schedule with no electronic gadgets allowed. Guests are also expected to adhere to the printed schedule exactly or face the consequences! Our MCF detective has come to investigate and, hopefully, return with a report for Her Majesty and George. Good stuff: All the elements you've come to expect from the MCF games: HOPs, intricate puzzles, good mini-games, wonderful characterizations, excellent voice work, lovely art, and lots of CE bling including well hidden morphing objects in each location. Bad stuff: I played all of the demo, but was disappointed when the mini-game/puzzle directions were more challenging than the actual game-play. I was also disappointed in the story. From what I saw in the demo, it will take every bit of the six other chapters to get some facts under what seemed to be the bare threads of a story. I'm not sure even a new MCF entry is worth the pain and effort. Some expert players will be thrilled with this MCF and some beginners will be disappointed/frustrated. Remember to try the demo as we all like different things. I'll stay on the fence a bit longer, maybe the SE.

Once again we have a confused story that was not well conceived, completely thought out, nor refined as to details. Rachel, her two small children, niece Zoe, and husband Danny are moving into a house that they purchased, according to the game, not only sight unseen, but they've already had work done without having ONCE been inside. They have no information about the history of the house or its owners - odd because there are newspaper stories floating around to serve as warnings. Is it creepy? Sort of. Will you run screaming into the night? NO. A better question will be: Do you want to run around in circles to dig Rachel out of the hole she not only dug but jumped into? Good stuff: If you are fond of partially decrepit houses full of boxes, paint cans, the last owner’s old furniture, and cobwebs, you'll like the artwork. There are a variety of HOPs, mini-games, a cell phone with numerous ghost apps on it, and 11 keys to find. Bad stuff: The story is lacking in any structure, details, characterizations, and interest. The progress through the game is impeded by what is now becoming the normal lack of logic and thought - The children are told not to go upstairs where work has not been completed. So where do they get their sandwiches delivered by Mommy? Upstairs! Rachel runs around the house looking for a remote and batteries to power it so that she can move a TOY under the edge of the bed a few inches to one side. She leaves her teen-aged niece alone in the room where the kids were dragged into the wardrobe. That's safe, right? As a bland almost average game, this may pass your tolerance levels. As the thriller of the day? Please try another game. There is not enough story or even good game-play to hold the bits and pieces together long enough to make me want to save Rachel and her family. Please believe you need to try this turkey out before you make any side dishes to go with it!

Once again you play a detective, this time called in by the local doctor after what he calls the murder of his wife, Nina. The police think she committed suicide. You arrive inside the town gates in time to almost be killed by a puppet. The town guard rushes to your defense and is seriously wounded. Trust me when I say its all down hill from here - and not in a good way! Good stuff: There are the usual game elements, the same artwork from earlier Puppet Show games, and some CE bling, including collectible roses that are unavoidable. Bad stuff: The story, the game play, the usual lack of any logical progression, clumsy characterizations and did I mention the really bad story? Look,I don't like the use of gratuitous blood and violence that has popped up more and more in this series. The early charm has been lost in a sea of gore and lurching story telling. Please, I beg of you, try this before you buy.
