We open with a vibrant scene, girls picking flowers, all in over the top colored dresses. One of them starts to sing a happy song and all heck breaks lose! Scenes shift and we, as the detective from the last Whispered Secrets game, are on a boat being offered something by the steward. Barely started on a well-earned vacation, a storm crashes into the boat we’re on and we just make it to a nearby island. Once there, we rescue a member of the boat crew, Noel. Noel was a passable boat steward, but a lousy survivor. For better or worse he will accompany me on this adventure as we try to discover where we are and how to escape, not just the island, but the local population, now zombies. Good stuff: All the usual game elements, no better or worse than the average, along with decent artwork, good VO's, a magic amulet, and a story than makes me wonder what was going on in the office to make them want to mix curses, magic, and zombies. Bad stuff: Zombies. Or do I have to rehash my distaste for the story that begins with a crash - hey, at least this one didn't have wheels? Or any comments on the lack of logic - see the scene with zombies chasing a horse drawn carriage? I wish I could say this was funny, but it is not. Please try the demo and keep some sea sick pills at hand.

You are the detective called in during an epidemic among the children of Ronas. The acting regent wants you to help catch the local doctor who was not only unsuccessful in curing the illness, his "cure" poisoned his only child when he tried it on her first. (Just imagine what the state of modern medicine would be if we executed every doctor that tried to help!) The doctor escaped from jail and you arrive one evening to investigate. Good stuff: There are the usual HOPs, with some things you need to do a second action to find, lots of things to collect, mini-games, and some CE bling. Bad stuff: The rehash of "save my child" is not involving. All those things to collect covers not only the collectible morphing umbrellas, cards, and puzzle pieces, but also the dozens of amulets/charms/inserts that you will need to proceed. There is not a cabinet, cage, or door that does not involve several things to find to open it to find things to open something else to get pieces to open something else. And the joke is, after you've run all over to open all these things to get to the next thing, etc., you will have been within a few feet of what you end up opening in the end to get more pieces... The characterizations are just sad - the guard outside the "castle" - large house - speaks in a monotone and looks ready to fall over. You put him to sleep -a blessing. Once again Logic left the building before the game was even started: You "break" into the doctor's house, which was sealed by the authorities. There is a candle burning in the dining room and a cauldron bubbling in the laboratory. Lady Lankerman welcomes you as the detective and then asks you to repair her son's teddy bear, without which he won't take his medicine. You make numerous trips past the doped guard and back to the doctor's house, back to the "castle," back to the town square, and finally find two buttons, a bow, and needle and thread to repair the bear. If any of that makes sense to you, I recommend the demo. Meanwhile we did see the Chimera in the town square and near the doctor's house. Only there does not seem to be a connection to the story - no one in town seems to have noticed the Chimera and only you seem to have seen it. I can't urge you strongly enough to try the demo before you make a decision about this game. I pass.

I too was privileged to Beta Test this game. I have been waiting for it ever since. Lana is a survivor, a human in a decaying world left from some horrible apocalypse that decimated the human race and left us living in the ruins beside the remnants of the Elvin race. Below where I live with my father, in a school bus on top of a tower of sorts, lies the Forbidden Zone, an area of ruins, poisonous gases, and dangerous situations. Father went to the Forbidden Zone to find something called a Nucleus, an artifact that the elves claim will heal all disease. When Father came back, he was deathly ill. Lana's only hope of saving him is to venture down into the Forbidden Zone herself and try to find the Nucleus. Good stuff: The artwork is amazing, truly a vision of a possible future when mankind has failed to coexist with each other, nature, or our own creations. HOPs are varied and game elements well done. You will have a Rune board that helps with your climbing equipment and has its own special puzzle to complete each time you can upgrade your tools. You will need all the help you can get as you have to climb and rappel from one ruined sky scraper to the next, fighting past man-eating plants and imaginatively placed remnants of the old times, as well as someone who wants to stop you. The story and characterizations were well done and the end of the Demo will make you want to come back quickly as nothing is certain in this ruined future. Bad stuff: It took forever for the Devs to get this game to market, but the beauty and realism of the world they created is breath-taking. Best: Two for one sale. Play the demo by all means. We all know that there are different tastes. I just want to get back to my game!

Lady Jane is on a mission for the queen. The country is somewhere and the time could be a couple hundred years ago. The queen's mother was burned as a witch and now the queen, who looked to be approaching middle age, is also being accused of the same crime. (I would have thought that she would have been watched like a hawk and have had no opportunity to do anything questionable. Apparently I'm wrong.) (And since the queen's chosen agent, Lady Jane, has a secret room in her quarters, perhaps there has been more going on in the castle than meets the eye.) Good stuff: All the usual game elements are carried out in a reasonable manner, but without some of the bells and whistles we have come to expect in a CE. There is a "helper" in Captain Louis, since we are playing as a lady. There are morphing objects, the number of which is in flux. Bad stuff: We start the adventure in Lady Jane's room and travel back and forth between her sitting room and her secret room quite a bit before we finally leave in a carriage for port. The funny part is the coach driver who apparently stands and watches us go back and forth until we are ready to leave - so much for the "secret" room. He then turns in the doorway and leaves ahead of us. Leaving the rooms is a relief after the extensive back and forth - there is no lock that does not require at least several pieces, a key, and multiple puzzles to open - and be warned: This holds true for the entire Demo and presumably, the game. Once in the coach and headed for the port, we are stopped at a crossroads and the driver brings over a tightly wrapped basket given to him by the other coachman as we watch from the carriage. As we start down the road again, Lady Jane cuts it open - just before her coach crashes. It seems that her driver had somehow, in full view of both Lady Jane and the other driver, taken a bottle of wine out of the tightly wrapped basket and found out it was poisoned - the hard way - by dying after sipping it. At this point I realized Lady Jane was in logic trouble and I only hung on because everyone seemed to find Captain Louis amusing. NO. When a reviewer recommends the demo, we really mean it! I played the demo and was not impressed, yet others were over the moon about this game. The story wasn't bad, but the execution was only average. Please do try the Demo for yourself.

Yes, Emma is investigating the disappearance and then reappearance of Helen and the disappearance of her boyfriend Edgar 40 years ago. Armed with a cell phone full of ghost apps, she will follow the trail back to Ben, friend to the two missing teens, now older but no wiser. Somehow this investigation will lead Ben and Emma into an adventure partially orchestrated long ago by Ben's dad, Adam. Good stuff: The multi layered and varied HOPs, good - but easy - mini-games, good artwork, and convoluted story are all as well done as you would expect from the Fear For Sale series. Bad stuff: The mini-games were not particularly challenging. The artwork did get a bit fuzzy occasionally, but it seemed part of the story and I didn't notice till I went back to check. Mostly I found the story took a twist that I haven't come across before and I enjoyed the game play and solving the mystery. I did finish the CE and feel the extra chapter, while entertaining, will not be missed in the SE. IMHO I think this Demo is one you should try. You can thank me later!

Short Version: multiple writers, contest to write rich guy's biography, murder to start, more murder to come, everyone a suspect. And we're off! Good stuff: clever HOPs with a Bubble Shooter Alternative, mini-games, collectibles, good clear artwork, CE bling, and a mystery to solve. Bad stuff: I was never a fan of examining the body in the DR games, and the new "deductions" you make by looking at the characters are not a step up - You are either forming conclusions from little to no evidence - Bags under your eyes - you are tired from traveling - or the deduction is so blatant it is embarrassing - I'm holding your ID - Yes , you are who you say you are! As most of the other game elements are tending back toward the stellar attributes of "Brassfield Manor" and "Silvermoon Isle," I'm just going to be grateful for small gifts and appreciate that this entry in the Dead Reckoning series is so much better than the last two efforts. Please try the Demo and enjoy both it and the fact that there is a sale on!

Katharina has asked you to come investigate what is giving her severe and constant nightmares. You arrive and find a vengeful evil witch’s spirit determined to keep you busy and away from her plans to turn Katharina into a full fledged witch – the first person born in 500 years with that potential. Unfortunately the Witch’s Spirit has fire in her fingers as well as in her eyes and she's had that 500 years to brood over her perceived wrongs and plan her revenge - Look out, detective! Good stuff: The HOPs were varied and multi-layered with a Match 3 alternative. The VOs were mostly well executed. The mini-games were the expected variety. You have a special pair of glasses to help you see and interact with the past and they don't have to be charged to be used. Bad stuff: The artwork was went from one extreme to the other - fairly well done while doing puzzles and mini-games to horribly blurred for the scenes with the glasses on and the animation segments. The Witch's VOs were overwrought - but she had those 500 years to get there too! The mini-games were child-like. And the special glasses looked into a very blue and odd past. True to recent game norms, the logic quotient of this series addition was astoundingly low - Katharina walking ahead of you and not noticing the fire that explodes between the two of you before you can follow, the life-size stone head floating in a normal size glass wine bottle, and the visions of the 500 year ago past that provided embarrassingly modern "artifacts" like a fire hydrant are a few examples. I sincerely hope you play the demo first. I just got discouraged. The story seemed to have potential that was wasted.

I played the entire demo. I was delighted to have a male protagonist for a change. I was delighted with the innovative story, the artwork, some of the puzzles, and the characterizations. I was OK with the collectibles, CE bling, and VO's. Where they lost me was the "cliff hanger" ending when our protagonist finds himself cast in the role of villain. I Beta tested this game and I flat out said this turn in the story was a deal breaker for me. I just can't see any way this will be good for anyone. I humbly suggest that you play the demo. I just can't recommend this game even though I felt it started with great promise. Good Luck.

Once again Susan is pulled into the Lost Lands. This time she will be trying to wake up a sea captain imprisoned in an energy field on an island. He is asleep and in his dreams, he sails his ship, the Grey Flounder, across many worlds. When he leaves those worlds, a natural disaster accompanies his departure. It is only a matter of time before a world is destroyed. Captain Steelburn has come to appeal to Susan to awaken him before the worst happens. This also means she will be saving the Lost Lands and her own World from destruction again. Good stuff: There are morphing objects and collectibles in almost every scene, along with lots of puzzles and great characterizations including a Beaverling named Corko and a dwarf sailor named Jepp. The artwork is astounding – just appreciate the water moving on the sea. You’ll also find the usual CE bling along with an extra chapter of the story when you finish the main bout. Bad stuff: There are only HOPs that involve finding items by their shadows and interacting with the scene to finish. There is no alternative to these – a form of punishment I found unwarranted. Otherwise you get the same game you have come to expect from this series – a group of maps that you will flip through to see what needs to be done and lots of travel back and forth between the five maps to get those things accomplished. I played through the last entry, The Golden Curse, and when I was done, I made a note about those maps. I had found that game dragged after a while because of the endless back and forth between the five maps. When the Lost Lands were finally saved, I didn’t want to play another game in the series, ever. All that said, I want to see how the good Captain Steelburn is saved from the energy field and what happens to Corko and Jepp. It seems it is not just the story that will grab you, sometimes - it's some really great characters and awesome artwork that help! Try the Demo and see what you think!
I recommend this game!

The mayor wrote to tell you his son will be murdered tomorrow - which, of course, is today as he wrote in what looks to be the late eighteen hundreds. (Or at least what the artist thought it should look like.) A local vigilante, the Red Cat, left a mark on the door of the Mayor's son's house. As the Detective, you ride to the rescue, arriving int time to see the Red Cat enter the house through the front door. Good stuff: What you expect in a game is all here - HOPs, mini-games, puzzles, collectibles of various sorts, and CE bling. You also get a memory ring with which you "catch" bits of memories floating around a room. When all the bits in that room are caught, you get to watch a shadow play with a clue you need to proceed. Bad stuff: Once again a new chapter in an established series has been rushed to market with little regard for the players' intelligence. The lack of logic is astounding - from total ignorance of the time period by showing modern items - to the first victim you save being left alone while waiting for the killer - to a character that leaves large mechanized insects to kill his victims - so large and easily disarmed that you wonder the locals just don't laugh him off! For some items you will need money, so be prepared to steal any coins you come across - and to laugh when the mayor says he trusts you! Please try the demo - you may want to see another "victim/vigilante" getting his version of justice. I just don't need another game this trite.
