I love the thought of time travel and hidden object games, Many of the games in my library are in this theme.
This game seemed to drag. It takes time for it to set up. I also did not care for constnatly wandering around, especially in the seamstress' shop looking for dress pieces. I just felt I was already two steps ahead of the story and I had to wait for it to catch up, or doing things that were tedious, like retrieving the key in the dungeon. There WERE easier and more logical solutions that could have been used.
PROS: Beautiful graphics (often what pulls me in to check out a game in the first place if I am on the fence about storyline). Then there IS the storyline: time travel, and setting something right. I often do not play with sound, so unless it is garish, or a game says 'best played w/sound' I will rarely comment on this aspect of a game. While some of the HOG's were challenging, a few things were a bit tedious.
CONS: Oddly, it is in my pros as well: The storyline. The premise is great, but even a great premise can lose its appeal if it takes forever to move forward. I can understand taking longer if it was a child's game, but this isn't. We don't need our hand held to have the story progress, just keep it at a steady, forward, logical but challenging pace, and more often than not, you will do fine.
Conclusion, Tweak this a bit. Not a whole bunch, but some. I think right now, I will hold off on getting this game, but maybe later on, I'll give it another chance and like it better. It has happened.
I will recommend this game, though. It does touch the brass ring, so to say, it just does not grab on to it yet.
In a fading world devoid of color, the ghost of Nikola Tesla reaches through the Ether and invites you on an incredible adventure through time and space.
This game really had my attention from the get-go. A few hiccups here and there, but I guess I am being picky. I'd put it in my top 20 as far as how much I like it.
Pros: Gorgeous graphics, good storyline overall, this game makes you think. I like that the lead character, a female, is not some simpering weak dingbat who is reliant on someone to do her thinking for her, and she's even a bit sassy.
Cons: Some things could have been done more simply, with more logical and obvious objects. Sometimes with those circuit boards, the colours wash for me.
Overall: Great game. I really enjoyed the trial, so I bought it. I am almost done with it, though.
Welcome to Top Secret Finders. Your first mission is to save a small town, uncover the truth about a government conspiracy and stop the villain in his tracks!
When I read what the game was about, it sounded kind of interesting.
I played the entire hour trial, and I think that after an hour the story needed to be more pulled together. It is kind of a mesh of a low budget X-Files meets Young and the Restless.
Graphics are well done, the dreariness of the situation comes through, but that is part of the storyline, the confusion of being dropped in the past, and getting your bearings as you get glimpses of (most likely) a rip in the space/time continum where clips of the past come through like a movie that you can see but cannot interact with.
I must say one thing that did irritate me is that I would be in one scene, get an object that I need for the next scene, then go right back to the scene I just left for another object. Tedious.
I guess I'll get this one, because I am a bit curious how it turns out, but I am just not in love with this one and chomping at the bit to buy it as I have been with past games.
I own over 100 games most of which are hidden object. I have lighter games, such as the Dream Day series, the Love Story games, that are wonderful and tender. I also have very dark games such as Redemption Cemetery series, and one of my faves MCF: Return to Ravenhearst. This game is nowhere near that, but it will be a somewhat challenging distraction for an afternoon.
I played for 12 long minutes. In that time, I think I collected 3 or 4 photos of missing children. Sickening. The unease started when I saw the girl in the playground and the creep watching her in the bushes. Then the girl blames the teacher 'it's all your fault!'. I am all for dark, gothic lines, but this is just beyond....decent. Poor judgement to release this game. I can take awful voice overs, storylines, and so so graphics #think Vampireville here# but I just kept getting bad vibes, so after I get done with this review, I will not be able to get this game off my computer fast enough.
I think the premise (returning to a childhood summer cottage) is fairly common, but I can deal with that. I like the idea of decorating. It brings out the creative side in me.
It is not real challenging as far as HOGs go. I am not really too disturbed by it, though. I am thinking of this game more for my 8 year old daughter than myself. She'll love the decorating and especially the cat factor.
The stereotypical Britspeak is a bit offensive. Brits do not call everyone 'love' at the end of every sentence or say 'Spot on', 'Jolly Good Show' etc every time they are excited or pleased about something. This game really needs to tone that WAY back. Actually, I got to the point I turned off the sound, and I only played the hour trial.
I think overall, it is a good game. I would not purchase it if you are looking for a mind challenging, in depth game. However, if you are looking for a bit of fun, enjoy decorating, and want a fun way to spend an afternoon #you will most likely finish the entire game in that time#, then go for it.
Sometimes in HOG's their terminology was a bit loose. I kept looking for anything with lace, and it was a ribbon.
There were a few more incidents like that. Kinda made me mad, but it was when I got to the end I was really upset: We get no closure, no resolution of story (i.e. happy ending) but almost a continuation...but only if you buy the CE. That is just wrong.
Then, when you click on 'Extras', it says 'Only in Collector's Edition' Then why have that option on the SE??? Naughty, Naughty, BFG. I hope this does not become a habit.
This is truly one of the few sites that does not offer bait and switch. This is something I will not put up with. I have been a very loyal customer for a long time, and it is one of the few sites with more great games than lousy ones, so I hope this was a momentary lapse in otherwise great judgement.
I really enjoyed this game. It is dark, ghoulish, and just awesome. NOT for the squeamish. I really got into the storyline, and I agree with the person who said it was better than the first one.
I personally would not let kids under 13 play it, as it is very dark and goes to some very scary places of the mind.
I recommend this game!

It is a good game overall. A few things bothered me: the same object can and is called different things in different scenes. Some are downright misleading. One time it called for needle and/or thread. I got all the spools of thread, could not find the last two or three, then I found that they think balls of yarn should be included in this description. They got a little too cute with their liberal descriptions in a few instances.
The other thing that bothered me, even on timed mode it took forever to get to the higher end items. I think as you buy up, your take on sales should go up.
Like I said in the title, overall, pretty fun. I liked changing the decor, and I think kids from about 10 and up would really enjoy it. They might lose interest if they do not accumulate the money for the items fast enough, though.
Normally, I really enjoy the darker, more gothic stories, but I really enjoyed this one. Going back in time, seeing the story unfold, and feeling a part of history.
This is a game I would let my kids play. My son would turn his nose up saying it was 'too girly' but I think my daughter would love it.
Very tender, kind, and light. Something for a true hopeless romantic, or even for some of the younger generation of maybe a glimpse into great grandparents' timeframe.
